That's one place where I think they've been lacking, back in the days of 'Grand Prix' they used to play the chain during the end credits which I personally really liked. I suppose I was expecting BBC to go more old school *shrugs*

I've just noticed that they still have classic Aus GP on the site eek.gif I thought they would've been deleted by now, I really have to say that video content is where they've really hit the money clap.gif

Do some Google's and you should find the remainder of the FP1 and FP2 sessions! cool.gif (i.e Google "replay COUNTRY grand prix practice NUMBER")

Sorry but, as much as I would love to do the horizontal-tango with Charlie Webster, she is the televisual equivalent of scruvvy and I'd have more fun choking than watching her try and present.

So by process of elimination, Lee it is!

There are dozens of good looking sports reporters, if that is the criteria.

Wonder if Suzi Perry would do a good job if she jumped ship from MotoGP? She seems a natural in front of the camera.

Thing is, you never see Lee McKenzie in the coverage at all.

She could be 20 stone with one of those weird chin beards and we'd be none the wiser.

BBC coverage has been fantastic. Not just the quality, but also the breadth - the addition of the forum element is fantastic. The old ITV pre and post amble was just boring (on the whole) and I rarely enjoyed watching them, so asinine were their comments and thunderously obvious their conclusions, but the casual nature of the forum bit (perhaps because it's has a small audience, so the guard is down somewhat) makes it fantastic.

Legard isn't great (thought I don't think he's as bad as some say), but Brundle is still fantastic, Jake has done a great job, particularly for the casual viewers, and the overall presentation is so much better than any F1 coverage I've seen before. The new media element has also been quite brilliant. I only watch TV rarely, but with this and a few comedy seres, I conclude their licence presents excellent value for me. I LOVE the classic race stuff on the site.

Bravo BBC and roll on 2010

Well said.

Cant praise Jake enough. Im staggered by his combination of enthusiasm, calmness and knowledge of a sport Im self confessed geek of. He's really made the broadcasts a show. He binds together the elements brilliantly with the ease of someone with much more F1 broadcasting experience. BBC have found a gem whos going to be around for a long time I hope.

He was fantastic when he done gp2 for ITV, and he would be fantastic if he was to get the F1 TV job as well.

He was terrible on GP2, wittered on constantly to no end as if he was radio commentating stating what we could see and never letting his co commentator speak.

James Allen was always a good commentator and his rapport with Brundle was a delight.

Contrast Allen's response to Button winning in Hungary and Legard's response to Button winning the WDC. Allen managed to ruin races, the worst you can say about Legard is that he's a bit boring. I don't even dislike Allen, in every role bar commentator he has excelled.

Unbelievably rubbish if that happens to be the case. I would send an email to BBC to query this, but no doubt I would receive some typical template guff telling me just how wonderful both the BBC and HD is and that I should jump on board etc etc.

Why? Wimbledon is on once a year and is a ratings winner where as there are 57 free practice sessions, 19 qualifying sessions and 19 races next season. The world cup comes round every 4 years and trounces F1 in the ratings. It's a no brainer.
Psymon
Another point about Wimbledon next year the championships are being held between 21st June and 4th July... the only race that affects on the provisional calendar is Valencia... so at least it isn't clashing with an interesting track tongue.gif

One point about HD... in a way the BBC are damned if they do, damned if they don't... With them preparing the way to introduce BBC HD on Freeview they are having to reduce red button services... causing issues for the people watching on freeview who lose out on some coverage. However if they just ignored Freeview as a platform for their HD programming, I can see that once Bernie allows F1 to be broadcast in HD there would be people here complaining that they can't get the HD coverage through Freeview!

As far as I can see it when the BBC and others can start pushing HD through Freeview it should help increase the number of people viewing HD content. Also perhaps in terms of F1 coverage, the possibility of BBC HD being available to all, may be one thing that the BBC can take to Bernie that may make him decide that F1 HD is viable sooner than might otherwise be the case.

Is HD coming on Freeview? I assumed it would be on Freesat...

Yep, it's the reason why the forum wasn't on the red button on freeview this weekend, they've reduced the amount of red button stuff overall for freeview to make way for the HD channel.

More info on Freeview HD: http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Services/Freeview-HD

QUOTE
Freeview HD transmissions will begin in December 2009 in the Granada region and London regions. Freeview HD will be available to viewers when the first Freeview HD digital boxes hit the shops in early 2010.

Starting with Granada and London, Freeview HD will then roll out in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford and Newcastle. So by the time of the 2010 World Cup up to 50% of the population will be able to receive Freeview HD.

Not true. She was on the camera twice in Brazil for two fantastic, tight-t-shirted, breast-jiggling moments.

No wonder Jenson always looks so chuffed to see her.

Reading 'breast-jiggling' and then looking at Tom Baker's expression made me laugh!

Agree with pretty much everything you have said, although Jonathan Legard commentary doesn't bother as much as some (just when he talks right over Martin Brundle - that's just plain rude).

David Croft, Anthony Davidson and Holly Samos for the FP sessions have been just about as good as it gets imho

ITV really raised the bar compared to the 'old' BBC delivery, so this time around the BBC had to step up - and they have done an excellent job.
BillBald
The really good thing about the BBC coverage is the forum, especially when they show in-car footage which we didn't see in the main broadcast.

I would really like to see more of that, and not just footage of the start, but other incidents through the race.

Of course I realise that the editing is probably not a trivial task to achieve in the time available, but still the more the better as far as I am concerned.

Great coverage of qualy on Saturday and a very good build up to the race, we don't get the "red-button" feature here but I've downloaded the BBC forum very often and that's very good too.

How do you download the forum? Living outside the UK, I can't watch it online, and I don't get the chance to see it live on Sky's red button because I usually record the races to watch later.

Not really comparing apples with apples here :-) Low res of Charlie's delicousness and hi res at a flattering angle of Lee Mac.

Lee isn't so great in the harsh light of day whereas Charlie looks fantastic from any angle smile.gif

On a purely lascivious note, either / or is a step up from Louise Goodman. What is she doing this year. She had lined up a gig at Honda before they bailed at the start of the year...

There won't be any testing coverage (why waste money sending people to a track where all that'll happen is teams trying different things and making analysing whats happening utterly pointless), and there likely won't be a pre season round up (why should there be, there wasn't this season, any pre season stuff will be covered in practice/quali in Bahrain)

Not a bad season review that. Format kept it interesting at least.

Whoever produces the annual DVD season review should take note. Add a few more non-UK drivers and the job's a good'un.
