Already under contract I would assume.

have another look mate ;)

on a completely random note Sarah-Jane Mee is a good addition to the BBC's lot (not just cause she's very easy on the eye)

Well, bearing in mind that he is the main commentator, probably in all of sports broadcasting, I'd say you overlooked him, yes. smile.gif Don't need no Jonathan Legard.

[Although bear in mind that such devotion to the Gubbster only fully makes sense after a childhood playing those International Superstar Soccer games on the N64]

I think it needs to be pointed out to you the craziness of expecting the daily wail to write anything resembling fact. Shame on you.

There does not seem to have been an official announcement from the BBC themselves, but I doubt that Brundle would break the news himself unless everything had been signed and sealed.

I'm really happy Brundle has signed with BBC and now lets hope DC gets the other spot.

That would be magic.

I'm hoping James The Tool isnt in the running???

I can't place Jonathan Legard - if he's one of those involved in the BBC podcast he's OK though I reckon...

He hasn't commentated on F1 for a few years, was moved to football and Tennis coverage by 5live as a promotion, It's been David Croft (and Murray) since.

I'm not entirely sure whether Legard has a massive background in motor racing, and he seems to be a "professional broadcaster" who goes where the BBC wants him. David Croft seemed to me to have a more genuine affection for the sport. That said, Legard is a good broadcaster/commentator, and he has quite a dry, cynical sense of humour. He and Brundle should get on famously.
Ray Kernan
I would have thought Croft brought the better current experience of commentating rather than Ledgard, who I hear on R5 talking about football for the past three years.

Crofty got his big b.reak as a sports news presenter on the old Fi Glover show at night on 5live he ended up in F1 after many years on the News desk so neither have a massive Motorsports background.

What kind of money do we think DC will be earning out of all this?

I mean, wouldn't it have to be seven figures to motivate him to travel the world non-stop as a non-driver?

Thanks for clarifying that. What we really need, then, is a young version of Murray Walker!
JasonSw
Just to add earlier in his career David Croft was at 3 Counties Radio and covered F1 as part of his duties there. He has always been a fan of F1.

Jonathan Legard was the F1 correspondent for the BBC for 7 years. He then became the footie correspondent on 5 Live.

Both guys are genuine and enthusiastic fans of the sport.

Cheers,

J

There is one but he doesn't seem to be in contention cry.gif . Toby Moody actually started out in F1 working at Benetton as a mechanic in his school holidays...

Beacuse he is an amazingly articulate man, who can communicate with great humour and precision.

Then there's his couple of hundred Grands Prix, 13 race wins and runner up position to Michael Schumacher in the World Championship.

I don't think he could be more qualified.

Drivers view, recently retired and still testing the Red Bull. Add to that he is articulate and probably a lot more fun than he appeared to be as a racing driver and adds a touch of glamour. I can see why.

I thought Anthony Davidson would have been good too after his commentary at Hungary where Jenson won! Probably could do with a break!

Yes DC has a great fun looking outlook, great guy, down to earth, funny and probably excellent company. Shame he was not a better racer...

However DC and Martin....I'd be in heaven after Murray and Allen.

He'd be perfect!
MichaelPM
If DC is still testing for RBR then it would be perfect to have him part of the BBC team.

Brundle: I remember when ******************** how do the cars handle that today?
DC: Well ***************** nipples **************

He wasn't, as Nigel Roebuck would say, 'from the top drawer'.

Then who is in the last 20 years? Schumacher, Hakkinen, Raikkonen, Alonso and Hamilton.

But Coulthard was still a damned fine Grand Prix driver. He deserved his spot on the grid and raced hard and fast all his career.

Contrast DC's postion at McLaren to that of Kovalainen. DC had a very quick team, just like Heikki does. But the difference is DC was scoring wins, seconds and thirds every other weekend even though his team mate was winning championshisp. Heikki scores 5ths and 6ths.

Sure, he had a poor season this year, but Coulthard was an great driver for more than a decade.

He deserves respect, and I'm sure he'll command that as a pundit.
Juan Kerr
DC and Brundle are a dream team, also chooing a professional commentator is exactly the opposite of James Allen who was just a journo and very nerdy. James Allen is a very good journalist indeed its just that he should've stayed doing that because his contribution is great as a writer.

DC and Brundle are very observant, intelligent and knowledgable. Good luck the BBC they could well give us a great show. Also, we need to give them respect and not criticise their production until they have found their feet.

I'm guessing Brundle would get paid more - I'd guess DC would also get some kind of salary from Red Bull as well.

Announcement from the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport...one/7745347.stm

Anchor: Jake Humphrey
Commentary: Jonathan Legard and Martin Brundle
Pit reporters: Lee McKenzie and Ted Kravitz!!
Pundits: David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan!!!

Presumably F1 will now be shown on a time-delay because Eddie Jordan can't speak a sentence without including at least 4 profanities.

And why couldn't we have Louise instead of Lee McKenzie? confused.gif
pRy
Ted Kravitz clap.gif

Suzy: Louise already found a new role with Honda.

Fair play , 100 time improvement over ITV

Eddie Jordan!? That's a surprise.

Eddie Jordan?! eek.gif

I'd assumed the Jordan rumours were pretty flimsy. He could be good but he's more likely to be plain exasperating. lol.gif

I'm not familiar with most of the team, I think it's a bit of a shame they've kept Ted Kravitz - I would have preferred James Allen in that role (but perhaps he wouldn't have wanted to step into a lesser role).
RodrigoL
Ted and DC are going to be working together? After their little war of words earlier this season, I wonder if they might clash on air....would be quite funny.
craftverk
Where the hell is Ben Edwards? And why Legard? Doesn't he do soccer? Should've kept Allen if they couldn't grab Edwards. down.gif
stevvy1986
legard did F1 for about 7 years before moving to do the football,so its not like hes a total newcomer to the role

Poor old Auntie lol.gif

But I am not going to forgive them for missing Toby Moody.
Ray Kernan
Ha ha - DC and Kravitz together, that will be interesting. Although it would be good to get some proper debate and maybe disagreement amongst the pundits.

Blundell and Rider always agreed with each other and were cosy and not very challenging. There are so many different views on every subject in F1, hope BBC will allow it.

Still, big surprise about Ted, glad he's gone over. up.gif
Blythy
anyone else slightly missing James Allen?

He gained a lot of respect from me for his Schumacher biography. feel canny harsh now tongue.gif
Kilted Wanderer
Interesting that they have gone for a young anchor.

Being a grumpy old bastard, it doesn't fill me with joy, but I suppose there's the faint possibility that he's been a motorsport fan all his life.....

I do hope the Fawn Meter isn't going to be off the end of the scale.
