As the title says, what were your favourite 10 races between Australia 2000 and Abu Dhabi 2009? Here's mine...

1. 2005 Japanese GP - An absolute classic of a race on one of F1's best tracks. Lots of ballsy overtaking, race went down to the final lap.
2. 2003 British GP - A race turned upside down by a crazy irishman, with Barrichello and many others providing demon overtaking to get back on top. Exhausting to watch.
3. 2008 Brazilian GP - Title decided in the last corner, after some hectic laps in the rain, and Britain's first champ since Hill crowned. A brilliant afternoon.
4. 2000 German GP - The race had everything: dramatic crashes, a track invader, overtaking, a thunderstorm on one part of the circuit, and Rubens' first win.
5. 2003 Brazilian GP - A complete destruction derby of a race, a totally weird afternoon where the 3rd placed driver left in an ambulance and the winner was decided a week later.
6. 2007 European GP - Another wet-dry classic, with that amazing first 2 laps, and Winkelhock's demon start from 22nd to 1st in one lap! Great racing from Alonso to take the win.
7. 2006 Hungarian GP - The only wet Hungarian GP, with lots of action and incident, and Jenson Button taking his first win in style from 14th on the grid.
8. 2000 Japanese GP - Not the best racing, but a memorable cat and mouse thriller between Mika and Michael, and absolutely awe-inspiring driving. Deserved first title in 21 yrs for Ferrari.
9. 2006 Brazilian GP - Schuey's last race, and a barnstorming drive despite the disappointment of losing out on the title.
10. 2008 Belgian GP - Fairly dull until the last few laps, which were just unbelievable. Pity the stewards ruined the result, but it was heartstopping in those closing laps.

(Looking back on this list I notice that 2 are at Suzuka, 3 at Interlagos, 1 at Silverstone, Spa and the Old Hockenheim - only two are at the more modern circuits, and neither are Tilkes. Just goes to show that overall the classic circuits which challenge drivers more often than not provide the best racing. I'll be interested to see what other people put)

That's a pretty good list!

Off the top of my head, I would add Australia 03 - which was absolutely crazy in the first 10 laps.

Yeah it was on my shortlist, it was one of those where nobody seemed to want to win and DC came through all the carnage. Its about 11th in my list!

Yeah good list. Will need to think about mine - but Japan 2005 and Australia 2003 would be at or near the top for me.

Other notables not on Kristian's list would be;

Brazil 2001 (Montoya passing Schumacher, then crashing out thanks to Verstappen, then the rain and DC passing Schu and a backmarker).

Monaco 2004 (Button vs Trulli, crashes in the tunnel)

Belgium 2004 (Kimi's tour de force from down the grid)

Brazil 2007 (nail-biting WDC decider)

Japan or China 2006 (the one MS beat Alonso)

Fuji 2007 (chaos)

Brazil 2003 (rain induced mayhem)

Belgium 2009 (best race of the year)

France 2000 (One of DC's best)

Indianapolis 2001 (Mika's final victory after 911)

Indianapolis 2003 (wet race MS, KR, JPM out of championship battle)

Malaysia 2001 (monsoon, Ferrari's off the track and then a Ferrari 1-2)

Belgium 2000 (That move by Mika over MS and Zonta)

So yeah moral of the decade : stay away from the Tilke's and stick to the classic or semi-classic tracks!!

Very good list, Kristian up.gif

From 2002 on I always submitted my input to the 'Voting Championship' poll thread in the 'RC Bets & Games' section.

These were the races I gave a '9':

2002 British GP
2003 British GP
2003 USA GP
2005 San Marino GP
2005 Monaco GP
2005 Japanese GP
2006 Hungarian GP
2006 Chinese GP
2007 Chinese GP
2007 Brazilian GP
2008 Monaco GP
2008 Belgian GP
2008 Brazilian GP

In retrospect the 2003 Brazilian GP also deserved a 9, I guess I was a bit annoyed by the sudden stop of the race at the time.

From the 2000/2001 years one might add the:

2000 Canadian GP
2000 German GP
2000 Belgian GP
2001 Malaysian GP
2001 Brazilian GP

The 2001 Austrian GP was a total classic as well except for that finish.....

It's very difficult to choose among the races, but among the favourites are certainly the 2000 German GP, the 2003 Brazilian and British GP, the 2005 Japanese GP and the 2007&2008 Brazilian GP.
Kristian
To the 'honourable mentions' I'll add the 2002 French GP as well... that was a good one, with Michael's historic title and lots of lead changes and mistakes.

Really?

Really?

Absolutely.

Lots of things happening, a fantastic fight between MS & JPM early on, Kimi challenging superbly until they get it horribly wrong at McLaren, a formidable charge from Rubens (from 21st to 2nd in 20 laps, then spinning and at last getting his place back after a really hard fight with Montoya), a few hilarious moments with Massa (spinning spinning spinning - but remarkably fast at times when he didn't spin) and McLaren choosing exactly the wrong tyres more than once for DC in almost Comedy Capers style fashion biggrin.gif

And I wasn't the only one BTW - the 2002 British GP got a 8.74 overall with 3 people even giving it a '10': http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=45315

I was there and I'd forgotten a lot of that! It was looking like a great race between JPM and MS, but when the rain came the Ferraris were so much quicker than everyone else. It must have looked better on the TV then.

Massa did provide some comic relief. His old style was manic and rather funny to watch because his arms moved at a million miles per hour. He'd gain a little bit and then drop ten seconds back - it was clear what was happening! His problem was that he was just going further and further back, despite not being particularly slow. I remember DC getting the wrong tyres once - didn't realise it was twice!

Yeah, Britain 2002 was very enjoyable.

Some races aren't exactly classic but have nice little moments or footnotes to them - I remember Austria 2002 (not the ending, obviously) was fun to watch because of Villeneuve charging through the field, until he ended up back where he started because of his strategy. And Malaysia 2005 had some great moments with Heifeld, Webber, Fisichella and Ralf having a huge battle in the middle of the race.
raiseyourfistfor
Melbourne 2008 was great. Kov punking raikonen into a rookie mistake, then Kov passing Alonso, at the same time Lewis running away from the pack only for the SC to put him back.

1, 2005 Japanese Grand Prix (top drivers at the back, amazing climax with Kimi bouncing back to win.)
2, 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix (everything turned upside down during the final day, with three drivers within a genuine shot. Amazing!)
3, 2001 Malaysian Grand Prix (jammy! That was something. Schumacher six second faster per lap, due to MS-Brawn tyre choice magic!)
4, 2006 Chinese Grand Prix (The most remarkable race turnaround in a few laps I've ever seen.)
5, 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix (He won, did he? No he didn't. Never a dull moment, but the SC start and dull dry part menas it doesn't make the top 3.)
6, 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix (Amazing race, shame about the red flag and the wreckage.)
