Oh no, that is incredibly sad.
One of the great, great figures of British motorsport.
He brought F1 to Donington in 1993 and did much much more.
His Grand Prix collection shows the passion of the man.
Very sad.

RIP.
Hope someone's going to rebuild the circuit and maintain his legacy.
Just saw that this had been posted in the Donington 2010 thread, however I feel that it does deserve its own space.

You're 100 percent right.
Wheatcroft is a huge figure and a massive enthusiast for Grand Prix racing.

Sad news,
The look on Tom's face as Fangio demonstrated the Silver Arrow at the Gunnar Nilsson trophy said it all. The guy had motor racing in his blood.

Thanks, Tom Wheatcroft, for giving Donington to the F1 world.
Thanks for one of the most memorable first laps in motorracing history.
Thanks for your enthusiasm.
Very sad to hear this news.
The saddest part, almost, is that he died with his circuit looking like a bomb-site, courtesy of Mr Gillett's pipe dream...

RIP Tom, as a member of the Donington Emergency services Team, I have to thank Mr Wheatcroft for providing the best circuit in the UK for wheel to wheel racing and a fantastic place to Marshal.
Tom's passing is a huge loss to British motor sport and he will be sadly missed by all.

All it should say on his tombstone is Good Guy ---- Down to earth, He got the Job Done and gave back a lot more than he took from the world.
Very sad news.

I met Tom a couple of times and he was always very down-to-earth and friendly. I knew he'd been unwell for a long time but his death is still a great shame. My sympathies are with his family and friends.

Very very sad to hear that Tom has passed away. My sincere condolences to his family.
At least he, unlike DVLL, managed to host a successful grand prix that will be forever remembered in history!
RIP Tom

What a fitting tribute the last few laps of the GP were yesterday to Tom Wheatcroft. A battling Brit to the end .
A fine man who made a real difference to British motorsport. My dad used to tell me stories of pre war Donnington and I can remember walking the circuit after Tom had acquired it and hadn't put the top coat on the track . I also remember Gunar Nilsson taking the Lotus round on a few demonstration laps at the first meeting and then the wonderful ( even though it was a bit wet ! ) Easter European GP . Brilliant. Tom letting the Mercedes slip off the track and getting stuck !! And then there were the drivers he supported ,Williamson for one. What a life and what life he gave to us fans. Must head off to the collection again .

Thanks Tom and our hats are off for the lifelong commitment to motorsport on four wheels and two. The collection is one of motorsport's most irreplaceable monuments to the rich history we must protect.
When the dust settles on Gillett's pipedream let's pray that Donnington Park hasn't been ruined for ever.
An all round good guy, they don't make them like that any more.
