We are planning on attending the Italian Grand Prix next year and would love some suggestions for decent, but inexpensive hotels in Milan. All we need is a room with a private bath and a TV. Nothing fancy. Hopefully somewhere close to the train station that has trains to the track. Also, does anyone know when tickets go on sale?

www.hotelstazione.com is cheap, and are located very near the Central Station in Milan.
The trains to Monza goes from here.
Here's a photo of the train station taken right outside the hotel.

There are heaps of cheap hotels near the main train station in Milan, go to lastminute.com or expedia.com and you'll find one very easily.

As for getting to the race, there are trains from the main station to Monza. Free and direct on race day.

There are several cheap hotels on Via Napo Torriani which is near to Central Station. Some people are disturbed by the 'ladies' who tend to loiter along this street. tongue.gif They didn't bother us though.

Oh Dear!!!
Cheap ain't the word..
While staying at the Hilton down the road I spied a large group of transvestites plying their trade on the steps of your suggestion!!!

I found what looks like a decent hotel not far from the train station. Part of a package deal through AARP. How much time should we allow getting to the track each day. I understand after the train, you need to take a bus and then walk quite away. Our tickets are in the first chicane at the end of the main straight. It's name fails me right now.

Depends on various factors. How fast you can walk; which day but I'd allow 2 hours from hotel to grandstand seat. It's about three miles from where the bus drops you to first corner aka Prima Variante.

Wow, good to know. Three miles...geez that's worse than Montreal and the Senna chicane. Thanks so much for the heads up. Hope they have some Porta Potties along the way.

I'd agree with that.

Also, it is much easier getting to Monza on raceday than qualifying or practice days.

One tip- don't catch a cab.

Our four-man party decided to do this to get to qualifying and ended up stuck in traffic for ages and each parted with 25 euros for the pleasure.

Apart from one brick built 'hole-in-the-ground' and one proper toilet upstairs from the cafe in the Central grandstand they're the only sort there are....

up.gif have a great time.

I wouldn't say it was three miles, but it is a good 15 - 20 minute walk. Pleasant enough though through the trees (which you can use if mother nature calls wink.gif )
There are plenty of portable toilets dotted around.

On race day the train will take you all the way to the circuit, so you don't have to get the bus.

Last two times I've been I booked a hotel through booking.com, just look for ones close to the train station.
