Great to watch McLaren gradually becoming a manufacturer. Can't wait for the first 12c road tests. I read they're having a hard time recruiting dealers in the US though, real shame there's still no US race.

The US auto industry is taking a bashing at the moment so it is not suprising with problems getting dealers to invest in a new brand. I believe it is going to take off once the car is getting mouth watering reviews from auto magazines, owners and other dealers. Lets keep everything crossed.
TheF1PERSON
Wonder if all F1 teams will go down this route eventually.

With the lack of manufacturers in the sport, teams should look to becoming manufacturers.

another WDC and WCC this year will also go a long way in marketing the Mclaren brand

Another positive note about the 25, this time from Button. Found it on the times site.

As far as McLaren are concerned, Button is impressed by what he has seen. "I have a feeling we will produce a good car for 2010," he said. For his sake and the sport's, let us hope he is right.

Please keep this discussion about McLaren the F1 team and McLaren MP4-25 the F1 car. Discussions about the road car are not for this forum.

You just need to back yourself.

Sean Connery was once asked the secret to his success with ladies.

His reply? "Three things. Confidence, confidence and confidence."

and ofcourse it didnt help that he was;

a) a movie star, and james bond of all characters...
b) lots of money
c)scottish accent back in them days was probably found charming by women when it is less so today in a world where things like that are part of every day.

and d) back on track, nice to see jenson sounding happy in any case, really looking forward to seeing the first practice session at bahrain with him in the paddock biggrin.gif

A happy Jenson can only mean one thing.

He feels relaxed at McLaren.

Which will only help his racing.

He posted some pics - but they were taken down a week later. Did you or anyone else see these?

I ask this because a few on the Ferrari forum say they saw these and allegedly forwarded them to a guy working in Maranello... evil.gif

In nature, Dead Zone = Areas of low oxygen... so it must be a vaccum type thingy.

Remember talks about rear wing of silver donkey in high speed corners, how it is completely switched off in that situation? Actually, it would be desirable effect on long straights. And only problem is how to switch off aerodynamic device on straights and turn it back on in corners. Maybe our mechanics had brain storm idea while Lewis was cornering trough turn 8 in Turkey dramatically slower than anyone else lol.gif

Yes, stalling wings. But they introduce drag, though I cannot know how that compares to drag of the same wing non-stalling.

If the dead zone thing has some real thing behind it, I think it relates to the diffuser. Diffuser/the underfloor can 'stall', no flow, or no enough fast airflow under the floor causes drastic reduction in downforce.

Hmm I read in another thread that the frantic development towards the end of the season was merely a last-ditch attempt to keep Mercedes on board.

If that's true then that is indeed interesting.

Wonder if it'll disadvantage McLaren compared to Ferrari.

Only three more weeks until we find out.

McLaren should have had a golden year financially in 2008. having won the world championship with Lewis Hamilton. However, the company's bottom line crashed 40.6% giving the group an after-tax loss of £44m

I'd say that is a result of the groups expansion into manufacturing proper. It's interesting though that what eventually became the R&D budget for the road car project, initially started life as an 'unapproved' funding stream. Master-plan or secrets being kept from Merc? smile.gif

AFAIK the stalling would be to reduce drag. That was the principle of the flexi floors. But downforce disappears with the stall so it would have to be perfectly calibrated to each circuit otherwise fast corners would be a disaster area.

JPW post in a McLaren thread, of course it's not true lol.gif

The split was set in train by McLaren, when Ron decided to build road cars without Merc. It left Merc paying to promote a rival brand. Last year the team switched to 2010 quite early but transfrerred anything relevant to 2009 as well.
