I have just set up a general McLaren thread. This is not intended to tread on anyones toes nor compete with this thread which is afterall the more relevent thread, however if you ever feel like you are treading on eggshells, for example the recent discussion on the Mclaren accounts, all discussion of the MP4-12C and the MOD McLaren contracts or anything else that is not deemed MP4-25 specific I have set this up to afford a little more flexibility. It may prove a useful repository especially off season. McLaren is becoming increasingly diverse yet the success/development of all these different subsidiaries relate ultimately to the work of McLaren racing limited and all future iterations of the MP4 F1 race car.

Alonso has his say on Jenson's move to McLaren
''Jenson decided he wanted a new challenge, he was not absolutely happy with the new contract from Brawn, and he is going to a very competitive team. Definitely he is happy, and for sure it is not a mistake.''
Well Fernando would really like the reigning wdc to be a nice tethered goat for Hammy. What would Fernando look like if Jense beat Lewis?

Well if anything, Button is getting the best deal, the first day, Pedro is just going to be ironing out the bugs. Look at last year at Renault, this was Piquets job, if it had being favourable Alonso would have taken the 1st test but then that good have ended up wasting their best (development) driver

Eeerm actually those who test later have the advantage. I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise. Ther eis a reason why the likes of Schumi and Alonso test later.

why don't we just dust off the old two seater, fit dual controls, will that satisfy ... probably not, three pages on who's gonna sit in the front, and who's unfairly stuck in the back.

I agree. Sadly I feel that Alonso's welll documented moans have had an effect on the McLaren press dept. So they're going into overdrive to confirm equality.
So... it's not going to be silver that new McLaren. Not very surprising though a pity, because it was the most awesome liveries for many years, at least since 2007.

Jan 18 2010, 22:09
I think it's just the internet age and the amount of analysis. I've always really liked Alonso's '07 quote about 'tell me you have equality and I'll tell you what you are lacking. There's always a better lap to stop on" etc (not got the full quote to hand, so that's paraphrasing). In a world where the tiniest advantage can be crucial, as we have with F1 (especially with last season's so close grid), and analysis to the nth degree, it's no suprise this is made in to such a big deal.

It does not matter who tests first.
Also, WACKO, did I miss something? I remember them saying the car will keep the current livery more or less, any indication otherwise? (I wouldn't mind being surprised

There's no real disadvantage to going last anyway, engineers know the car better, set up more refined, track rubbered in - I'm sure there'll be loads of people saying that Jense has wooped Hamilton after he's quicker on the following day. If I recall, they alternated who went first and second through the tests last year, I'm sure they'll do the same this year. Though testing times are interesting to see where the teams lie, we ultimately won't know anything until Bahrain.

I think McLaren have expected this departure for a while though. I'm sure De La Rosa would have been cut out of much of the development of the 25 because of this. Jenson seems to have been working awfully hard in the simulator. + I think Pedros Mc test would just take the form of a shakedown anyway.

Yep.
That was at the start of the trend for teams to run mirrors on the outside of the sidepods.
McLaren gave it a try to see if their drivers could see enough.
The answer was no, so they kept the inboard design.
You'd think that image was photoshopped though, right?

The images of the prototype mirrors that were released today didn't really appear particularly streamlined, infact quite bulky. Are they aerodynamic specific areas or designed with creating pressure areas in mind. A little bit like some of the bulky spoon shaped noses used last year.

It would be kind of silly for Mclaren to already declare Jenson their new number 1, when he hasn't even turned one wheel in their car yet don't you think ? Jenson ain't gonna have it that easy. It's more likely that Mclaren see him as their shiny new toy, and him being the reigning world champ, i think they are just trying to market the sh*te out of him, and ensure he feels wanted......

He's their new signing and reigning WDC- I see this more as a way of introducing Button to McLaren fans and giving the press something to write about relating to the team during the winter test ban.
