If you want to get ahead of someone in the pitstops it's the opposite to what it was with refueling, you pit for fresh tyres for quicker lap times minus the fuel penalty while the driver ahead stays out on worn rubber with slower lap times.

Jerez 1990 was a perfect example of it.

McLaren should've had Hamilton pit earlier.

They tried.

RBR saw them in the pitlane.

Pitted Mark.

Cant stop that.

You're right, I suppose RB would always respond to any hint of a McLaren pitstop.

If McLaren lose any time in S1, they will gain time in S2 and especially in S3, so I think in general Canada will suit MP4-25 the best possible way, because MP4-25 is very good on the braking, and clearly the best car on the straights so far this season. Actually I think it is the best chance for first non RBR pole this year. blush.gif smoking.gif

Yes, agree,i think is a best suit for "the 25" (Monza too)

Great result, the new rear wing performed exactly as expected. Both drivers were very happy with the balance and pace of the car moreover the ability to run with the Red Bull, and even being held up by them.

Plenty more, to come, in the pipeline.

Awesome, great job by the team and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

It looked like you moved the "F-Duct" cockpit switch to by the steering wheel, is this how it is from now on or was it circuit specific? Seems the opposite of what everyone is trying to do.

We're all dying to know... but ATM_Andy can't very well post such things. McLaren are being a lot more open, but they're not going to go that far!

Indeed, wait and see (and hopefully be pleasantly surprised smile.gif )

BBC mentioned that Ferrari will have an upgrade soon, with lower exhaust blowing through diffuser, so I'm not that surprised at the suggestion that Macca will have the same thing.

Really the other teams have no choice but to copy Red Bull as much as they can.

Hopefully the F-Duct will still give an advantage, since no-one else so far has really made it work.

You could see on the onboards yesterday that it's still in the same place. Although at some points (for example with Lewis on the run up the hill to turn 8) it looked like both drivers used their left hand to pull the lever whilst still holding the handle on the wheel.

There will certainly be more for Canada as for every race. I believe Mclaren will consolidate their advantage on this type of circuit. I read Andy's post as meaning there are much more improvement on the way into the cars that will cancel the advantage that RB currently has in fast bends like turn 8 in Turkey.

My opinion is that these will be on the cars for the Mclaren home race at Silverstone - a track many have predicted RB will win. I think and hope Mclaren have set a victory target there.
The pressure is on RB now, it will be interesting to see how they will react...

With stories that F-duct is cold war weapon, mad rantings from Cosmo Horner and so on. Seriously, who cares about RB, they sound like a lost bunch right now, I am just hoping that Iley is making another beast for 2011, because, /25 is already almost there, and championships will be ours to take.

Thanks for sharing it with us. Got really good feelings that after 12 years we will have both championships back were they deserve to be.

Be interesting if the mp4-26 will be a evolution of the 25 or starting from scratch yet again. Will the loss of DDD and F-Duct hamstring the 25 or is there more to it then those tricks?

I obviously don't know, but this car was quite long to accommodate the DDD. But this car is too pretty to throw away xD.
Anomnader
I thought the length was due to the new fuel rules and preserving tyres not anything to do with DDD?

Well, there is one unknown yet. KERS or not?
make it two, who will cope with the new tyres best.

Exactly! That is what is costing Red Bull & Ferrari dear. Anyway wonderful job by the team to secure our second 1-2 finish & the perfect way to pay tribute to our dear founder Bruce. I just hope we don't get complacent. We have a job to finish i.e to secure our 1st WCC since 1998. I've seen us getting complacent in the past & paying very heavily for it.

Martin Plz plz don't get complacent. Remember the words you uttered right after we won the 2005 British GP & what happened to us in Germany the next race frown.gif

The full second deficit between Red Bull and McLaren evident in Barcelona had been all but wiped out in Turkey, albeit that the cars achieved similar lap times in very different ways. McLaren had a new, more efficient rear wing, intended for Montreal but brought forward for Istanbul, and Red Bull had been forced to make some suspension changes.

Nice to see McLaren bring parts early. I knew they had a new rear wing, but not that it had been brought forwards. Hadn't heard about suspension changes on the RB6 either.

syph0nJZ05
I think it's great how much Lewis is developing into an extremely sensible and mature guy both on and off the track. If we go back to Barcelona, just look at Alonso's response to gaining that podium when he obviously lucked into that position, it was as if he had just won a race or something (I realise that was his home GP though). Compare that with Lewis' demeanor after the race, much more respectful towards Red Bull and clearly put up a sensible battle with Jenson. On top of this he has clearly shown he is developing his skills as a driver, with the ability to manage tyres well and preserve fuel etc, while still having that killer instinct. Really looking forward to see him in Canada - good luck Lewis up.gif .

Nor I, would be interesting to hear some more about these changes. I wounder if this was linked to the Monaco diffuser change or possible another complaint to the FIA by McLaren again (or by another team) about the Red Bull. Very interesting. I wonder if it cost them much time?
Dunder
Fantastic result in Turkey,I would like to know exactly what was said to Lewis/Jenson about "fuel saving" though.

I am confident that our F-Duct will still be the class of the field for the Canadian race and our car should fundamentally suit Montreal, just a word of caution though. The track there is very bumpy (corners) and the MP4-25 appears to be the most stiffly sprung of the leading cars which is hardly ideal.

Yep, lets remember that Red Bull is still leading WDC and they still can perform great at all circuits while I'm not so sure about McLaren on some tracks. And even here Red Bull was faster in quali and won a place through pit strategy so McLaren still has work to do. Let's hope they can make it.

Button said he had had the car set up too low, and that it was Bottoming out. It was a less than ideal set up.

Wise words. The mood swings in this thread can be really extreme, and it only takes one wrong wall or SC or some rogue bump a la Bahrain to make people depressed again.

In the meantime, congratulations to ATM_Andy though. Good luck in the next races, and we're looking forward to those future developments.

About those PR ladies: exactly what are they supposed to be doing anyway? When we see them, it's usually them standing next to the driver talking to the press, looking a bit sheepish as they seem to be the fifth wheel of the wagon in that kind of situation. Great to see the MP4-25 showing such good pace, and I'm very happy about the 1-2, but I really think that Macca need to look at the pit strategy, as they were well beaten by Red Bull (who don't have the reputation of being especially sharp).

I dont know about the pit strategy, RB knew that the McLaren had a better race pace ... Had RB pitted earlier Lewis would have passed them, had RB pitted later Lewis would have passed them. So the only way RB could keep Lewis behind was to pit on the same lap, they waited untill McLaren pulled Lewis in, whether it would have been lap 6 or lap 40, RB would have waited for Lewis.
