femi, I think the windtunnel is part of the building, and I would of thought they could recirculate the air in the tunnel..

theres bigger wind tunnely things about, ganassi has a tunnel through a mountain, where a full size stock car is driven down (or indycar), theres a huge german one that was used in filming serenity i think

(Ever wonder what we do in the winter? Here are the mechanics calculating garage space for 2010!!)

I guess this means that there is going to be a change in garage size next year, else why would it be any different to this year...

If so is this a result of McLaren being third in the WCC this year as opposed to second last year, or is there going to be an overall reduction in garage sizes across the board to accommodate the new teams?

I´m not so sure. Have the team enough funding left?

Jenson, I belive, who cares in the team, he is the biggest looser at the grid 2010.. That´s all common.

But it dont ends there, MacLaren is on the brink to loose out to Mercedes as well next year.

Lewis cant match Kimi, it´s a well known fact.

The sign is that all MacLaren fans is afraid of a deal between Kimi and Mercedes.

MacLaren, they are done.

I doubt Button would know much about Brawn's new car, even if he has seen it because he is not an aerodynamicist / engineer so he wouldn't know how it works and what it is if they have some special new parts
mstar
i am quite sure he knows the figures of improvement for next year. I am amazed in the BBC interview he doesn't know how the Mclaren next year will go. He met with Neale and Paddy lowe so i am convinced they must of told them "jenson we are looking at 2seconds quicker next year THEN currently (which we are fastest car end of season)" brawn i am convinced will improve and could win some races next season as there rear-end package compromised there set-up and car

if you took 5minutes to do a bit of searching you'd find mercedes provided roughly 50million a year to mclaren, thats not very much in F1 terms.

1)this can easily be made up in sponsorships especially when its rumoured vodafone are paying for jenson button.

2)Kimi was not brought into the team on principle that paying 18million for kimi was a gross misjudgment of his worth. he is not worth 18million and mclaren stood on principle and decided they would use that money elsewhere in for instance, development.

3)Mercedes are a big doubt to be top of the pile next year, its highly thought that the order will be something along the lines of Mclaren, Ferrari, Redbull then Mercedes with williams possibly in the pack. the constant opinion is that ferarri mclaren and red bull will be the top of the pack when looking at this years development

well 2007 and 2008 budget is said to be in the region of 350million for both mclaren and ferrari and 400 million for honda/brawns 2009 WCC/WDC winning car. so yeah id consider 50million not much in comparison.

in other words im sure mclaren are safe financially especially since they now have a roadcar division to bring in the dollar.

People, people. Get out from under your F1 rocks!!! This 2009.

Investors are leaving he sport left and right or reducing their commitments significantly. No way teams have that kind of money to spend. Especially Mclaren.

I can only name examples that show they will have less to spend.
Can you come up with examples that show they will have more money to spend?
'Resource Restriction' could not have come sooner for Mclaren. They will need it.

And about Mclaren's automotive division. Get real.
They do not even have a factory built yet.
The first cars will be sold in 2011.
From 2011 onwards, it will take a number of years before they can turn a profit.

I havn't seen you give any examples?

The Button hiring will given them sponsorship and the only sponsor I have seen leaving the sport is ING and that is for various reasons, not left right like you are saying. In fact I think more are investing then leaving with the amount of new teams coming.

For some reason you have an issue with McLaren.

ok so you want to look at this as 2009, well lets look at it as 2010 which it will be by the way.

i never said mclaren would have more money to spend, i said that they would not miss the mercedes money.

budget reductions by every team have been accepted and guess what, this just plays into mclarens hands. it means they dont need the backing of mercedes. it means smaller privateer teams such as Williams, Force India, Manor, campos, lotus etc all have a chance of competing nearer the front. mclaren is a resourceful privateer unlike any of the rest with a racing pedigree and the staff with the ability to win championships.
Anomnader
I think they could make another partnership with another manufacturer if they so wished, at the moment though I don't think that is part of their future plans, this split has being going on for months, Rons being there in the past and the present and has always being competitive, I don't think he is going to let his team slip now.

-Spygate has cost them quite considerably.
-Santander is paying them LESS since the move to Ferrari.
-Mercedes will not be adding to the yearly budget any longer.

The fact that they're paying Button a relatively low salary is a sign of the times as well.

QUOTE
Ron Dennis, the chairman of McLaren Automotive, has announced plans to build a new factory for the planned McLaren high-performance, high-technology sports cars. This will be located adjacent to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, and will be known as the McLaren Production Centre (MPC). An application for planning permission has been made and if this goes ahead McLaren will be able to build 20 sports cars a day. The facility will be designed to be the most modern and efficient automotive production facility in the UK, employing over 800 people, with an additional 1500 likely to ger work as sub-contractors. The company is aiming to produce its first new generation sports car in 2011. The aim is build around 1000 a year to begin with, rising to 4,000 once the range is completed.
Arion
The challenge is to find the "right" investors and how the shares split between them is also important because Ron would want to retain overall control of McLaren. There will be less money to spend, there will be restructuring, but as we've seen money doesn't equate to success in F1, McLaren was competitive before Mercedes, and will remain competitive.
TheArmchairCritic
There's a reason why the MP4 project has been going for 25/26 years now, go figure. Also we have arguably the most marketable F1 driver around now, furthermore Ron was doing more than watching the GP in Abu Dhabi ;). I can see where you're coming from but Ron wouldn't have agreed to Merc's terms unless he had a Bulletproof plan in place.

I'm quite surprised that people are worried about McLaren's financial situation. I can't imagine the split with Mercedes was unfavorable to them either. It was Mercedes who wanted out of the contract so surely McLaren had the upper hand when it came to getting everything finalized.

You really seem to have an agenda against McLaren.

How did spygate cost them "considerably"? They haven't lost any sponsors due to the scandal, unlike Renault who's lost their title sponsor as well as another minor sponsor.

How is Santander paying them less a bad thing (considering that they will be title sponsor/one of the main sponsors of another team)? May I remindd you that Santander actually EXTENDED their contract with McLaren, considering how well their campaign with McLaren has gone?

Mercedes will not be adding to the yearly budget but other sponsors and cost cutting measures, which will be common fashion throughout the paddock in the upcoming seasons will MORE than make up for this.

Furthermore, it's not like Mercedes will break the bank with Brawn. Shareholders and Board members aren't too happy about the takeover and there will HUGE PRESSURE on Brawn to 1) perform or to 2) be efficient in the long-run (ie. control costs). This move by Mercedes was more a cost-cutting solution in the long-run than anything else.

I have not seen nor read anything that suggests that Mercedes will not be honouring the current contract that ends in 2011 which includes free engines. That is the reason IMHO that Mclaren will still be Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes and that is why Mclaren would have to buy Mercedes out by 2011 and not before and that is why they are still partners and that is why Mclaren veto against Red Bull still stand.

I do not see any reason why Mclaren would let Mercedes walk away to a competitor without taking maximun advantage of contract violation. Another reason why I believe Mercedes are still honouring that contract is the statement by their president that they are not paying any penalties.

I therefore think Mercedes are still bankrolling Mclaren just as they were doing. Nothing has changed and nothing will until the end of 2011.

McLaren automotive in Portsmouth is known as 'access point' it is here that all the SLR chassis were built to be assembled at MTC since at least 2002. They already have a factory available. The new factory is with the other two post MP4-12C production cars in mind. They have already built numerous MP4-12C's anyway and they didn't build those in a muddy field.
