Is it me, or are the Renault and Total decals more prominent than last season?

I did read a rumour at the end last season that Renault offered Red Bull a better sponsorship bundle, including more Total money, in an effort to get them to stick with the engines. Sorry I haven't got a link at the moment, to be honest I didn't think much about it at the time.

Are you suggesting that the fastest team at the end of last season throw their design away an come up with something completely new for absolutely no reason?

There's a good reason why everyone else is copying Red Bull and they've stayed "static".

Lets wait and see first. In F1 staying "Static" often means going backwards.

lol more like McLaren is a cheap copy of RB5
Seems people forget Newey was the first designer to introduce the extended engine cover concept during recent times.
Renault & Ferrari followed & now McLaren have but apparently they are the innovators. rolleyes.gif

25 looks nothing like the Red Bull ohwell.gif

QUOTE (Muzzinho @ Feb 10 2010, 08:15) *
Yes Total and renault both much more prominent. V nose is a little different as is the Shark wing and rear wing curve at the back.

Exellent looking racecar, looks fast and beautiful.

Take note Mclaren, thats how you build a great looking car.

we've seen what Adrian Newey is able to do in the past decade, shame none of his cars have won a freakin championship

Are you serious?

The MP4-25 is a beauty, radically different from last years car. The Renault looks good and fast, but to say it looks better than the McLaren is IMO preposterous.

No good having a pretty car if it turns out not to be fast.

Well first of all im talking about the RB not the Renault

And yes the mclaren does look like a brick compared to this car. It will probably be reflected in the times too.

Why would that be? He seems to produce stunning cars but there's always a fatal flaw.

Is it because the driver is so often an afterthought?

it seems the success of this car will depend on how well the other teams that revolutionalised their designs do

Haven't been very excited about this winter for some reason. Last seasons was great, a huge change in regs and everyone was antsy and anxious not knowing that if they had an advantage it was their chance to climb their way into the front. We saw so many different ideas and shapes and in the first few weeks of testing.. Renault.. Toyota.. Redbull.. Ferrari.. Williams.. who had the right idea?

This season we know going into it it's all about copying, evolution, refining. Combined with the huge fuel tanks, we have no way of judging test times. It's like Friday testing for 5 or so weeks instead of 2 days. Everyone can try to guess but we really can't judge anything until Saturday night in Bahrain.

Car looks okay. It reminds me a bit of the RB4, similar to the RB3 but lots of little tweaks that can hardly be seen. There is a bit of hype around this new diffuser.. hope it lives up to it. smoking.gif

It's a bit surprising about the length, it doesn't look hugely long like the Ferrari. Maybe they recognised that the fast corners would take care of themselves and they needed to focus on the mechanical grip. To have more of an all round good car instead of only being dominant in fast corners which is what happened in 2009 for the majority of the season.

ScarbsF1: RedBull: The "V"nose is higher and more dramatic, the Sidepods follow the RB5s lines and the rear suspension retains the pull rod set up

The pull-rod suspension setup would probably have other teams scratching heads. IIRC this is not the way to go in these year's car because of the integrated DD.
potmotr
The car is much as I thought it would be actually, an evolution of last year's strong machine rather than a clean sheet design like the McLaren.

what does RedBull have to do with Mclaren??

beauty is subjective esp. when it comes to these cars, the prettiest cars will be the one that wins the WDC/WCC

There was a debate on the previous page comparing the RB and the McLaren, if it was ok to compare one page back, then it should still be ok, or..? After all we are discussing the RB here, is it not allowed to make comparisons with the other 2010 cars?

Yes, beauty is subjective. That's why I wrote "In my view" rolleyes.gif

And, no the car that wins the WDC/WCC won't necessarily be the prettiest car. It will be the best car. F1 is not a competition to build the prettiest car, but the best car. The winner of a marathon might not be the prettiest of the competitors but he, or she, was the best...;)

As last year, the beam wing hangs in free air (almost) and can therefore be worked harder to provide down force.
Not conservative at all IMO.

Well, I'm out of my depth on these things... but why is it McLaren and Renault have closed that gap? At first glance their stuff look more extreme to me (actual efficiency is another thing I know)

Also Lotus looks to almost have pretty much ditched the beam wing altogether, though it'll probably be hard to tell if it's a good idea.
BRK
Still can't find a better image. Right now the only difference I can make out is a split ceiling at the top..
slideways

Not a lot of detail so difficult to make much of it.
LoudHoward
The beam wing doesn't need to be physically connected to the diffuser to interact with it, the low pressure area below it should help stop the diffuser from stalling.
