I have a feeling that Hammy will crash out again today, he hasn't driven the car with the update thoroughly.
jjcale
Been very busy today/yesterday (Saturday) ....and had not been keeping up with the news since the end of the Quali that never was.

So lets see if I've got this straight...LH has a penalty from changing his gearbox, on top of binning the car early in FP1 + rained out FP3 so he has not run with the updates for more than 2 or 3 laps early in FP1... and he has done only about 15 laps in all (including installs)... and quali is meant to be dry... On top of he has only raced at Suzuka once before.

lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif at his chances in this race. Macca should give Gary a go in the car and treat it as a test.

I think he has a Championship winning car this year. Red Bull and Alonso have made a tremendous amount of mistakes and have left the door open for either McLaren driver to win it.

JMHO

I don't think the third best car can be called a championship winner, especially when at times it's been well over a second off the Red Bulls pace.

P.S Hamilton will need the drive of his career to win today, with such limited track time and lack of getting used to the new parts the task is much much harder for him.

That McLaren doesn't have a good car talk is crazy. The fastest car is the car that gets to the finish line first. The opportunity was wide open for Lewis or Jenson to win the WDC this year.

AAJMHO - enjoy the race.

The fastest car is the car that gets to the finish line first...yeah and it helps alot if your car is 1+ a lap faster, infact it makes it alot easier. With your logic any car on the grid is a championship winning car.

Not any car but Ferrari and McLaren have been close enough win it all. You have been quite clear that Red Bull has the best car. So what will your argument be if Alonso wins the WDC in an inferior car? He has made more mistakes then at anytime in his career. The door was left open and anyone in the top 3 teams could have driven through it.

Just my opinion, I respect yours. kiss.gif
Olly F1
My argument will be Alonso is an exceptional talent, as is Hamilton. But the Ferrari is much closer to the Red Bull than the Mclaren is, or atleast it has been for alot of the second half of the season. I agree Hamilton could have won the WDC this year but it would have been down to his exceptional talent and RBR tripping over each other. I really believe that Alonso or Hamilton would have blitzed this championship if their cars were on par with the Red Bull.

I agree the door was left open by Red Bull making mistakes but it doesn't change the fact their car has been significantly quicker than the Mclaren most of the season.

I don't think it's right to call the MP4-25 a championship winning car when it has been almost a second off (sometimes more) the pace for a lot of the races.

Ralf (Schumacher): The biggest surprise is Lewis, with his accident at FP1 and without any track time and setup time to get P3 is outstanding

Yes, Lewis was great today, especially when we look on how much time he spent on track on Friday... He recovered in a great shape again, but pity he must start from 8th place...
Coral
Lewis was fantastic once again, especially considering his lack of running. Just think what he could do with a better car. The grid penalty is unfortunate but I'm hoping for a good points result. No dramas please though! smile.gif

If he can come 3rd with only doing what 6 timed laps prior to quali that says A LOT about his talent level..does it not?

both on option tyres.

Well...

I must apologise to my fellow Lewis supporters.

I was VERY pessimistic yesterday. Lack of sleep for 2 nights running, and a terrible weekend for Lewis had me a little out of shape.

The boy done good this mornin'!!!

His time of 1.31:763 was set on hard tyres. When he switched to softs he didnt improve (seemed from the few laps i saw he got alot of traffic when on the softs.) But that could be what influenced him to go with the hard tyres.

Nope, they were obviously running different setups, Levels of wing were far different, Lewis quick through the Esses and Button fastest through the middle sector.

To my shame, I was so pessimistic that I didn't even bother to get up to watch qualifying so I was extremely pleased [not to say amazed] to see that Lewis had qualified third.

Perhaps I should not watch the race and then hope to be just as amazed at the end?

I'm truly gutted he had the grid drop, but I have a sneaky feeling with the pressure being off, we could see a Hamliton classic today (in a good way) Come on Lewis!

Err?

He should be 3rd on the grid.

He ruined it because he failed to manage his hard tyres well during qualifying to make most of it when it mattered in the final lap, like the rest of the drivers did.

He ruined it because he broke his brand new gear box trying to catch Alonso. Lewis has always been very subtle with his material.

Depending on your view, Jenson vs Lewis, is now a bit academic or the only kudos left for either of them, as they're both effectively out of the title after this race.

Button now McLaren's challenger #1, who would have thought?
Lights
Yes, that's correct. The championship is over for the McLaren drivers. The car isn't quick enough, and Hamilton simply has had a horrible run lately with mistakes and bad luck.

Who was better this weekend? Well while Button's strategy was never going to work and I don't get why they tried it, Hamilton would be ahead anyway without his gearbox problems so he gets the point.
