I think he may debut his new helmet only at the first race, and we'll see variations of it in testing, but then again, he might want to test the new helmet in testing smoking.gif

Been talking about it in the Schumi helmet thread.

Seems even split of opinions, some say the red will stay, others optimistic it'll change.

But no official word, hopefully one of the zillion hacks at the launch will pop that question.

This team is starting to make the old Toyota gang look exciting!

Seriously dull car, tediously dull launch.

Mercedes GP are going to be the new corporate dullards of the grid.

well, the early mockup pictures were not that far away from the presented livery
with better light conditions, the silver should be more recognisable

all I can say is WOW love.gif up.gif

Beautiful livery, it looks aggressive ! I LOVE the spray-painted black ''effects'' on the front nose and especially on the engine cover at the rear of the car....Nice package ! Also I like how the overalls are simple and how the Mercedes-Benz logo looks on the driver's back up.gif The greenish on the racing wheels , SUPER ! Very simple design approach that says alot about MB's philosophy ...

Schumacher's NEW cap is beautiful with the red Deutchvermogetberatung logo ,the Schumacher logo on the front pallet, the dragon at the rear with some cool german effect from top to buttom at the rear ! I cant wait to get my 2010 MS cap and wear it at the Canadian GP this year ! I bet in 2010 the grand stands will be mostly grey and metallic silver with thousands of Schumacher caps clap.gif

Michael Schumacher and Mercedes GP Petronas F1 2010 FTW ! The New World Order in F1 has just begun wave.gif

Silver looks awful and has always done, and two teams with that colour is just a disgrace. Schumacher doesn't fit in white either...

As far as the livery is concerned, I think it's one of the worst attempts ever down.gif

mclaren's ditched the silver livery since 2006, it's chrome since then

up.gif to MB for starting the whole car launch season (ok so it's just a livery). But it feels like F1 is reactivating again. Yeeha!

From Twatter. Hope he's wrong.

byronf1 Reserve Mecedes driver, probably Nick Heidfeld, due to be announced in the next few days.

what's this fuss about Nick? He was reported as reserve driver, or?
Is there still a chance for the renault 2nd seat?

I quite like it. Finally a proper silver car on the grid, since all the McLarens from 1997 onwards were either grey or chrome-coloured.

The black bit on the nose makes it look fat, though.

Love the car, hate the driver number plate section, looks so out of place.

Thats one awesome paint job

i'm not 100% on the livery....the black stripe on the nose makes it look like someone's given the car a dirty sanchez....

At first glance it reminds me of the Brawn paint job to some extent, ie a main colour and then highlights. Obviously the colours have changed. Need to see it on the new car I guess.

Maybe he's still negociating for an F1 seat but if that doesn't materialise maybe reserve driver for Mercedes GP and a top DTM drive wouldn't be so bad?

I also think that Petronas in black looks rubbish. I expected a bit more turquoise to separate the car from the McLaren even better on TV, so IMO that's a shame. And yes, red number is so... McLaren wink.gif
F1 Tor.
Finally, car launches!!! I love this time of year. It's great to see what companies and designers come up with. As for Mercedes, I thought it was ok. Nothing spectacular, but I'm sure things might look different by the time the first race rolls around, maybe a bit more Petronas color. Strange seeing MS in silver. Wasn't all that fond of his cap but I'm sure when I start to see ten million of them throughout the year at each GP, it'll probably grow on me ;) Overall I thought it was fine. Now let's how fast the new car is. Anyway, look forward to the next few weeks and seeing teams roll out their 2010 contenders. I think some people should go in with an open mind. If you're constantly comparing things to some 'ideal' you have in your head, it's all going to suck, which really takes the fun out of it. Enjoy each launch!!! It's months of hard work for a lot of people!!!

Reported then the story was retracted.

My assumption is that he is gunning for Renault but has told Mercedes he'll be their third driver should those negotiations for a race seat fail.

One thing I've been considering as well.

What will the loss of Mobil mean to Mercedes? I wonder what engine lubricants and products they will use with the engine and hydraulics?

Shell and Ferrari make a big deal of their collaboration bringing performance benefits on track, with Mobil making similar claims with McLaren.

Now that Petronas are apparently pumping in money into the Mercedes works team, what impact will that have on these sorts of things? Could it possibly be the case that Mobil has better petro-chemical products than Petronas? And what would happen then?

Or will they just use the products they always have?

Food for thought though, and it'd be interesting if anyone knows quantiably what performance benefits fancy fuel might bring?

Yep. Best picture so far.
They did well not to make the turqoise dominate the colour scheme.
The silver-whitish streaks also have a nice effect.
Not a screaming livery, but that's good, because the sponsors need to come out well on the car.

(on a closer look it's just the paintjob i guess)

All in all, it's a very good looking car.

The brushed silver kinda bores me. When I first saw the washed out pics under the lights I was extremely impressed. I think this car would looks awesome with a black nose and wing and with the rest of the car a more defined silver with a white engine cover. Maybe a white wing actually. Oh well.

I haven't seen anything in the press release that says Petronas will deliver the lubricants for the Mercedes engine. I think Mercedes will continue to use Mobil 1 for all three of their teams. Mercedes GP will just not advertise it.

Are those smudged black/gray stripes all-over or is that the lightning? If it's smudged striping than that's really amateurish....

Hmm, but weren't Petronas saying that they would only consider continuing their F1 engagement with a manufacturer ( + development program) to show what they can do?

That simply couldn't happen from a corporate point of view.

Yes. The big deal for them is Mercedes-Benz endorsing Syntium lubricants for the road cars. That's where Petronas will make money from the deal.
Not by designing lubricants for the Mercedes engine. That will only cost time and money.

Explain why?

Engine with Mobil lubricants inside goes bang, flames etc. Petronas is written on the side of the car. Will Petronas be happy with that situation?
