strange hole above the brake light?

The car has a 230 litre fuel cell according to the N-TV guy

If you look at a front image there are vents along the side of the engine cover and that will be the outlet...

...also it's not a brake light tongue.gif

I thought that McLaren made ugliest car of 2010, but Mercedes just beated them.

The colour scheme looks better now that they've got silver wheels instead of green.

strangely enough I can't find your sentiments about McLaren's ugliness in MP4-25 thread, surely you've had several days to express your feelings back then?

On topic: awesomely looking car

Best diffuser shot for this car so far. I don't believe this to be the definitive package in the slightest after seeing some of the other cars.

I know it's not a brake light, but called it that for lack of a better name. (didn't they test it as a brake light some years ago? I remember villeneuve being opposed to the idea)

it looks to be a flip up?

People were saying the same about the Ferrari F2004 too.....

But hey, the Williams had an amazing revolutionary walrus (or whatever it was) nose, much more original and better and faster etcetera then, right? lol.gif

To me the Ferrari and Merc looks terrific, and there can't really be an absolute fact that these ugly sharkfins make cars faster as some seems to think, as Ferrari has used them in the past and obviously has chosen to to at this time. The Ferrari and Merc look cleaner, which might not be a bad thing at all, compare last years Brawn to the Renault or BMW for example...

Zhuk
More complex diffuser doesn't mean its the most efficient or fastest, especially since every constructor's design is efficient to the specific needs of their car. You can't look at a diffuser and see if it is fast or slow these things have had countless hours of design and testing implemented in them and they are made the way they are on a car for a specific reason, its also not as if because it has more slots that it is somehow better if that was the case i'm sure we would see 10 or 20 decker diffusers.

I can count so many years in F1 where other constructors (e.g. usually Mclaren or sometimes Williams as both these teams have a pedigree for over-engineering) have had the 'most advanced' looking car whilst its usually the best developed concept which takes the day, which in recent years has been the Renault, Ferrari or Brawn.

Ross Brawn was basically the guy who came up with the double diffuser trick for the new regulations so I am sure that he has implemented the most efficient design for his car this year.

After a few tests we should have a very rudimentary idea of what the pecking order might be, but as all things in F1, we must be prepared to be surprised.
salamin
anyone knows what this is, extra cooling?
roadie
Could be. A variant on the Williams intakes it would appear.

Was he?

I think some people forget that Ross isn't the designer of the car, nor is he lead aerodynamicist or whatever.

Ross is great and all, but I think he gets a little 'too much' credit sometimes.

Anyways, yes, I agree with most of the rest of your post. Too many people get over-excited about anything 'unique' on an F1 car.

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg on his first impressions of the team's new car: "It felt good but I cannot really feel if it is a winner or not. I still can't judge, even if my first impression of the car was very good. Everything went smoothly. But we have not been on this track for such a long time so it is difficult to compare."

Is not a accelerator for hot air exit from the radiator?

No was aero man from Super Aguri who joined the Brawn. He told Ross that the role has a loop hole. Ross took it to the Tech Group.

Bravo Super Aguri, they raced so well.

Shame that they went bust, thanx Nick Fry.

Speaking of Super Aguri, it makes what they achieved all that much more remarkable given the struggle of these new teams to get on to the grid.

Eh. Kind of. Super Aguri also had the luxury of support from Honda and basically a customer car.

When those went, so did the team.

So have the new teams. They've chosen not to use what's on offer. Super Aguri started off with a 4 year old chassis, these new teams have had access to 2010 toyotas and bmws.

Is it a Mercedes [-Benz] or a MGP?
ferruccio
QUOTE (salamin @ Feb 1 2010, 15:07) *

Yes, I think they're additional cooling ducts. I think most teams had to repackage some of their cooling systems and move some of it to the centre of the car, away from the sides and so this ducts direct air to them. It's likely to be complemented with air exhaust ducts to at the rear of the engine cover, probably centrally or near the centre, as observed at the back of the Merc GP
Galko877
Good start by Michael, he was immediately on pace! clap.gif

Now the question is how quick is the car compared to others. We will see.

I read other teams writing that. Question was, how a radiator, which is most cases massive thing due to lots water pipes and fins, could fit in that 'V' shaped center sction of the car, between the engine air intake and the upper body work.

So far interesting for Brawn team tho. THe car looks like 2009 and does perform like 2009.

Looking forward to RBR.

I have to say I wasn't sure about the livery at the presentation but on the track and on the new car it looks stunning.

What do you guys think about the current exhaust?
They surely will change that before Bahrain as it´s about the same issue as Ferrari had last year, not?

The main engine coolant radiators are still at in the side pods but likely the smaller ones (engine oil, gearbox oil etc.. maybe even supplementary engine coolant radiators) are whats likely moved centrally. Seen some CAD photos of teams(team releases) like Lotus and it may seem that they've probably 'creatively' arranged the main radiators. Lengthwise, almost horizontally even etc in the side pods, who knows. Will be interesting to see later how some of them packaged their radiators

Schumacher's impressions day 1:

"It was a perfect rollout for the new car today. I felt totally comfortable and really had a feeling that everything was very natural. It felt just like at the very beginning of my career in 1991 when on the first lap, I thought wow that was really fast, and then on the second lap, I was extremely excited. I feel just like a young boy again and really enjoyed myself. We did a good job today, making a few control checks, and the most important thing was that the car ran reliably. With Nico and I covering 79 laps today, it was a superb job by the team."
Galko877
Nico Rosberg: “It was a good first day of testing for us and my initial impressions of the new car are very positive. It felt great to be in the car for the first time and to get our pre-season testing programme underway. Generally everything felt good although I was sitting too low in the car and couldn’t see the track very well which we will improve for tomorrow. It’s too early to get an initial impression of the competitiveness but it was very special to drive the new Silver Arrow out of the garage. I’m looking forward to tomorrow when we have a full day of testing to make further progress.”

Michael Schumacher: “It was a perfect rollout for the new car today. I felt totally comfortable and really had a feeling that everything was very natural. It felt just like at the very beginning of my career in 1991 when on the first lap, I thought ‘wow that was really fast’ and then on the second lap, I was just extremely excited. I feel like a young boy again and really enjoyed myself out there. We did a good job today, just making a few control checks, and the most important thing was that the car ran reliably. With Nico and I covering 79 laps between us, it was a superb job by the team.”

Ross Brawn: “We have had a very useful first day of testing here in Valencia. Our priority was to ensure that the new car was functioning properly and allow both drivers to use their short window of track time to get acclimatised to the car and its operations. Today’s work has provided a good basis for the next couple of days and it was rewarding to see that the car ran reliably. I would like to say thank you to everyone at the factories in Brackley and Brixworth for all their hard work in preparing the car to test here this week. And finally, it’s been a very special day to work with Nico for the first time, to work with Michael once again and to complete our first active day as the Mercedes-Benz works team.”
