So what?
It's seems more practical and productive for both the driver and the team to have a series of 3 days in the car with one driver, rather than half a day for each driver.

Em shouldn't team benefit more by having different drivers each day....... just to get different point of view from drivers perspective?

The German publication Bild said that the new Mercedes GP F1 car for 2010 will be released on January 25 and will be called RB1.

Ralf's Brother?

Don't like that name. Too confusing with Red Bull.

While it's nice to see the nod to Brawn, I would have liked to see them reprise their old nomenclature, where the cars bore a W and a three-digit number.

Like the W25 wink.gif

Hm, confusing. Sounds like for all their PR, Mercedes still aren't prepared to take full responsibility for a racing programme. Or maybe they're still painfully aware that virtually all the work is still done in southern England. stoned.gif

I don't believe it will be called RB1 (as Red Bull cars are also called RB).

MB would be better no? Mercedes-Brawn 1 which can also be seen as Mercedes-Benz 1.

what does Silver Arrows in the title have to do with this ??

Mercedes have said that the next years Mercedes will be a "Silver Arrow".

And your thread has been merged with the existing thread on the 2010 Mercedes F1 cars (instead of having several threads on the same subject). That's why the title has changed.

Seconded, pretty much.

About the drive, Nico can have a lot of technical teething problems at first, and after those have been solved, starts Schumacher the performance developments. In a way, for Nico, this feel better, as he may already have a chance to direct the development of the car. It is a battle.

I don´t see Mercedes accepting such a behaviour between two parties in their own team...even if Clear works for Rosberg...he is also an employee of Mercedes...and Mercedes wouldn´t accept one of his employees working against one of their drivers...

Clear also sounds to me like an arrogant idiot...he talks about things, which are over ten years ago...maybe Schumacher made mistakes under pressure...now Schumacher is over ten years and five titles older...

I think Clear didn't say these things now. James Allen was quoting from his Schumacher book.

I think the intention is not so much to stop Clear from sabotaging his own driver, but to create a situation where both drivers get along with their mechanics.

People are still smarting about Adelaide 1994. As for Clear, he was giving and interview with James Allen for Allen's biography of Schumacher. Of course he'd recount the 1997 season when he was JV's engineer, since that's what Allen was asking about.

What about the old car? Can they put Michael in the old and Rosberg in new one for the first test? That will be the way to go imo.

The focus would be on Rosberg while Schumi will get some mileage.

That would use up precious/limited testing miles in a car the team would gain little from for their 2010 season.

Life is interesting and I'm certain Clear would sing a different tune if asked the same questions now. What this does suggest is two fierce camps within Merc team where information flow might be resisted. I do agree that Clear seems to be an arrogant man. If Michael emerges as the leader after few races and gets the team to rally around him then Clear (though not working with MS) will be in the minority group and might just have to eat humble pie - My money is on Michael !

Isn't it about time that the fellas fellas at our beloved Merc change the official website. I'd have thought that they'd change it by now...

Am I correct in saying that, officially, BrawnGP doesn't exist anymore and it's now MercedesGP?

Lets hope they're waaaaay to busy designing a kickass auto... ambivalent.gif

Officially it's still Brawn GP. At least if you check the UK companies register.
EU clearance was given last Monday.

I wouldn't go expecting as much transparency from the team via their website this year either. frown.gif

The FOTA teams have been talking a lot about improving fan engagement and I expect Mercedes to follow suit with maximum use of Social Media tools.

Michael visits Brackley

"I am very impressed, everybody seems to be really motivated"

"I have been in the factory in Brackley now for two days and spent the time to get to know the engineers and the structures a bit better, and I am extremely positive surprised about how motivated everbody was. This a world champion team but it does not seem to be spoilt by success at all; it seems to be hungry for more instead!

It is important for me to be informed about everything and it was very interesting to get to understand the engineers and their structures and the way they work. I was there already around the time of the signature of the contract and learned a lot, now I have seen much more about the team.

I also was in the Mercedes-factory in Brixworth and I have to say that I am very impressed about the high level you see there. In Brixworth the people seem to be highly motivated as well and I find that encouraging, as it perfectly fits my personal mood. What I also liked was that you hear a lot of people speaking german there. That is nice for once, I am not so much used to that at my work, and I find it quite convenient."

Rosberg expects equal treatment

Rosberg is confident he will be given equal opportunity at the team.
"We are on an equal footing, it's always been like that at Mercedes - that's their philosophy," Rosberg said told Fox Sport. "Your team-mate is the driver you always compare yourself to because he has the same car. That's why my aim is to be in front of him as often as possible."

Strange that there's little info about the Mercedes car as all the cars. We're in January, and there are no F1 journalists/magazines getting the inside scoop on the designs of the cars and doing a artistic drawing for us. Seems like the winter buzz about the new cars has disappeared and people would rather wait until they are uncovered.

Designing the dream

The story is now familiar. A year ago the Honda Racing F1 Team, having suffered two difficult years near the back of an increasingly competitive field and staring into the barrel of a world recession, walked away from the sport. Despite barely making it to the opening race, the new Brawn GP’s dominance saw it became the first new F1 team in history to take both the Drivers and Constructors Championships. What then, defines the ever thinning line between last and first? Simon Lott investigates.

Also according to Bild (and confirmed by quotes from Schumacher and Weber), Michael negotiated the contract with Mercedes GP himself without the help of Willi Weber. Altought Weber will still be in charge of sponsors and merchandise.

Last GP2 Test in October at Jerez the top times were in the low 1.25s So thats the benchmark for Schumacher if the conditions are similiar. I'm not sure if the post 2009 test included new tyres/components but that should give us a benchmark when he tests for 3 days this week. Not much rubber on day 1 when he tests being the only guy out there!

Especially this relation to what happened 98
‘He lost the 1998 world championship to Hakkinen by stalling on the grid. I mean who stalls on the grid for heaven’s sake?
shows that this comment is just pathetic.

Maybe he should have asked the latter question himself before making that ridiculous statement.
He is an engineer and should know better. It was a clutch failure. End of story.
