I dont expect so in the first half of the season but come the second half, and the second season I think it would be hard to differentiate the two. Two opposing styles, I think they will learn of each other to improve. Should be a thrilling battle, but I for one do not expect Lewis to dominate like some suggest. Sometimes in the face of grave opposition you can rise to occasion. I believe Jenson is on the up and with his new found confidence will provide us with a thrilling spectacle.

I hope so up.gif

Button in the RA107 was sensational, and that was a dog by all standards!!

Surely you mean the RA106.

He mentions it maybe...because its true and he knows it and everyone knows it and is telling him so ?? Dont see that he is going to start making excuses now having just decided to make the move rolleyes.gif

The BBC interview is evasive, he doesnt answer the difficult questions - which suggest not everything was rosy at Brawn - the one bit however that stands out is the bit about wanting a new challenge. Button knows he is never going to be a multiple champion - for him now hes won it he does need a new challenge. It is a brave move, just how brave and to what extent other factors came into play, we may never know.

Well ross thought he had the potential to be a multiple wdc, so why cant he then ?
He is so undertated its almost comical. eek.gif

Well both I guess! But 2007 remains a fantastic season for Jenson. 2006 too, but in 2007 the car was horrible and generally accepted as one of, if not the worst car. He drove several fantastic races, France and Monza (given how draggy the car was and how poor the engine was) spring to mind.

Antony will for sure look after his son, he has the power to do so. Remember Liegate, he forced Ron out.

Jensons father has to catch up fast.

I think you will find that was ALL mad max, nothing to do with lewis senior at all, sure he may have protected his son, but it was max that wanted rid of ron.

Mosley had nothing to do with the arguing in the team. Short memory?

I got one to, but this things I try to remember.

Button really can't lose in this adventure. If he beats Lewis, he'll be hailed as a god. He if gets beaten by Lewis, he's already got his pre-prepared excuse-in-a-box ready that he had the increased disadvantage that it is "Lewis' environment".

Listen to the interviews by Button on his signing with McLaren and count how many times he mentions "the challenge of going up against Lewis in his environment". "In Lewis' environment". He mentions this easily over half a dozen separate occasions. You think it's coincidence? No, he's thought about it earlier and knows it will be a good fallback if he fails. If he wins, then he will look like a god "beating Lewis in his own team".

Two separate interviews, with different interviewers and notice how many times he mentions "Lewis in his environment". Interesting indeed!

He didn't purposely make a big deal out of the Team Hamilton factor, he's asked specifically on that matter i.e. "how do you feel going to a team which has Hamilton's DNA running in the car?". The British media is already making excuse for him, pathetic, where's the Hamilton DNA excuse when their superstar beating a whinny Spaniard in 2007? Now when one of their own faces the same possibility, they're wasting no time to make excuses for him. And excuse me, it's not like Jenson Button has never been beaten by his teammate before anyway, Rubens beat him in Honda, Jenson's "own environment".

Jenson is not making excuse for himself, when answering the question about McLaren being Hamilton's team, he actually acknowledged BAR/Honda/Brawn being built around him, and he's in the comfort zone there. He very much understands this is just part of life in F1, Most teams have a more established driver and they have a closer relationship with the team.

Btw, it's true he has little to lose, but there's still something to lose. He's a WDC after all, he can't afford to be "heikkied" by Hamilton.

Just so you know Hami senior is juniors manager, Button senior just goes to watch his son risk his life - there is no "catching up" for him to do rolleyes.gif

Ok genius, why don't you articulate why you think Anthony holds so much power within McLaren that he can force the team principal out?

It's funny how people continue to say things that make no sense whatsoever.

so you think anthony hamilton (Driver Manager) forced out Ron Dennis (CEO of Mclaren at the time)?

a 1 driver manager and multi million dollar company head.... thats like saying i could influence gordon brown.

Ron Dennis stepped down to lessen the punishment of the FIA from the liegate. its that simple. max had it in for Ron and Ron's place at GP's was the deal made.

Amazing, are you guys still responding to this Mia 01 troll?

it's a gamble. he didn't even change for more money which looks odd considering that he may be world champion (whether he is a worthy champion is another issue - i personally think he is good but he ain't no top-class driver despite his neat driving style) but unfortunately for him hamilton is in another league!

I'd rather wait and see what happens in the first few races, in'10, before making outlandish presumptions on Hamilton v Button.

i think we need to get to at least the 10th race next season to see how close JB is to lewis as the first half of the season lewis will blow him away

I'm not sure this has been brought up yet. From the arguments I've seen so far, most likely not. McLaren need a very good wingman to Lewis. In the sense of the old Patrese/Mansell type partnership. McLaren want someone that will bring the car home behind Lewis to protect him. Or take the top podium when Lewis can't. Heikki hardly did this. Lewis always had to race on his own to make anything happen. Now they have a safe pair of hands in Jenson. All of the arguments I've seen thus far are short sighted and seem to miss the bigger picture. McLaren Want To Win!!!

Indeed. What if the wingman ™ as a reigning world champion comes to the unorthodox idea that he wants to win himself?

In that case its win/win for McLaren as Hami is more than capable of bringing home way more points than Kovi.. and if Button outscores Hami then its all good*

(*providing Alonsogate doesnt happen again - which I doubt anyway)

It is a right move for Jenson.

If he win in McLaren over Hamilton then he would be a great. If not, then people would say he is new and nothing shame about beaten by Hamilton in 'his' team.

Otherwise, if he continue to win in Brawn then people would say he win only because of Brawn. If he gets beaten by Rosberg, his reputation will be worse.

So, at Mclaren he has nothing to loose, whereas at Brawn he had nothing to gain (in terms of fame) and everything to loose, once RB has left? I am wondering if he was looking at it the same way.

Then he will be allowed to win. DC was afterall allowed to beat Hakkinen when Mika was going for the WDC.
