"Although I don´t strictly agree with his reckless style, he did more for racing this year than all the other drivers combined."
Not sure about the year and the quote might be a bit off, but who said it and about which driver? The year is circa 1978 and the quote is from a team principal or team boss.

1978 was too early for me, but Riccardo Patrese was supposed to be a bit of a nutter back then wasn't he?

I'd say that Patrese is a fair bet. I don't know who'd say it though. Enzo Ferrari?
I am not certain, but possibly Frank Williams referring to Gilles Villeneuve? I seem to remember him making a similar comment about GV.

Sound like something that could be said about Gilles Villenueve

It couldn't be anyone but GV.
The comment has to be from Bernie Ecclestone (Brabham team manager).

Ah yes Villeneuve of course - and it sounds like a James Hunt-esque thing to say.

It does but James Hunt wasn't a team boss.
I'm sure it's about Gilles Villeneuve. I don't know who said it but he was damn right!!!

Indeed, managed to not read the 'who said it' bit first time I replied, and the boss comment the second time
I'll have to take a look in Gerald Donaldson's book on Villeneuve. Pretty sure it was Frank Williams.

I too would say that GV is the likely subject, but would suggest that the year would more likely be 1979 or 1981...
