I haven't been reading every piece of gossip I can find, only just the main news stories of F1 sites every now and then. Usually I'm not one for these gossip type things. It starts out as someone's dream for what should happen, and then other people run with it. Story gets bigger and bigger and it's all BS.
But there seems to be some fire mixed in with this smoke. It'd be surprising if Schumacher isn't in F1 next year IMO. Brundle always said he would come back. All the media attention could become a bit annoying (like when he almost returned last year) but on track it'd definately spice things up and make the season alot more interesting. Seeing ROC, it's obvious he can still drive at a high level. Like always in F1, it'll come down to his fitness level and his car for how much success he can have. He's human he isn't a miracle worker. I don't think the three years off will make a huge difference. He might not be 100% (his peak of his career) but he'll be strong. I only worry about Rascasse with 26 cars on track.

Joking.. Low fuel qualifying with cars setup to run on high fuel. We will see some special Q3 laps this season.

Schumacher reveals comeback is closeQUOTE (Luca di Montezemolo)
He phoned me and he told me that there is a very, very, very strong possibility [of racing for Mercedes-Benz]. Having said that, it is not 100 percent decided. But that is what he said yesterday morning

Di Montezemolo said that he believed that it was a 'new Schumacher' who was pursuing a future with Mercedes-Benz.
"The real Michael Schumacher always told me he would finish his career at Ferrari," he said.
You can tell they feel hurt by Michael's decision which is sad, but then that's life. I think he did want to come back with Ferrari at first (hence Luca's three-car proposal) but since it failed he had no other choice than to switch teams if he wanted to race again.

And it's Luca's decision to break that private phone call to the media? That combined with this: "The real Michael Schumacher always told me he would finish his career at Ferrari." is very disappointing. Can't wait to see Schumacher in silver now.
so that GP2 or old F1 car test next month will determine if schumacher races or not.

I had kind of forgotten that Mercedes paid his way into F1 in the first place, just paying back his debt if you think about it - he did nothing for Mercedes in his F1 career except beat them often!

A guy called Michael Schumacher told us at Monza (in September) he would renew his (Ferrari consultancy) contract, And it looked like his career would finish with Ferrari.
But then there's another one who looks like him, 40, 41 yrs old, German, same name and decided to do a new career.
Everybody in life can do what they prefer, and I understand that there is somebody at 41 years who wants to try again.
So I think it's possible this twin, another Michael Schumacher, same age, same capability, some determination and spirit, will drive for Mercedes next year.
Of course, I will have a lot of fans on our website very upset. They think Michael is a traitor. But I will explain to them it is not Michael but another one.
As a friend, it is difficult for me, but I'm happy to see somebody so fit and with such big determination.
As chairman of Ferrari, I'm so sad. He received a lot from Ferrari, and he has given a lot to Ferrari. I think the combination in the good and the bad moments was very, very good.
This is the reason why I think we have to accept there is another Michael who is wanting to race. The real Michael is still with Ferrari.

yep the three car proposal makes lot more sense now. there must have been some kind of dispute with luca when they canceled kimi's contract and had a driver to fill in that role, so it must have been between alonso and schumacher for kimi's seat. and maybe schumacher got hurt by ferrari's decision to turn to alonso.

With that sort of sentiment, it's pretty clear that whether or not Michael races next year, he's pretty much done with Ferrari.
Even as a dyed in the wool tifosi, I find the prospect of his return exciting as hell. I wish him luck.

I'm sure they do feel hurt and most at Ferrari are probably justified in being so. Luca however is not one of them, his role in Michael's retirement did not appear a positive one and friend or not, there was clearly friction there for a time.

Exactly, Ferrari and especially Luca don't need to play the hurt little kid. Im sure they are disappointed that Michael didn't end his career with Ferrari but they have to blame themselfs as well. Ferrari have no reason whatsoever to debate Michael's decision. He has done everything for Ferrari, never questioned his team nor the partners in public and kept the shit in the team.

Frankly I feel that Ferrari will feel thankful and Mercedes will regret this move and Nico's career will blossom when it's revealed that Michael's past it.
He was faltering badly in his last season making loads of mistakes. This is an ego trip that's going to backfire big time IMHO.
It might be a "new Michael" but he obviously has the same arrogance and I really feel for his family having promised them that he wouldn't go back.

More from Montezemolo's speech (from Bild):
- Michael was ready to race at Ferrari in a third car, but unfortunately Ferrari couldn't push through the three-car idea. So they could offer him nothing to stay.

What did they suppose to annouce if everything was in midst of negotiations, tests, etc. You would be among first to critique them had they came out and said something to the effect "we think about this and that, but maybe this, maybe that...."

I understand what you mean so I've decided to split my allegiance. Schumacher WDC and Ferrari WCC.
Simples (in theory). I managed it last year supporting Vettel and Ferrari. I cant abandon them. I didn't start following them because of Schumacher, it was because of Irvine. But it is possible to support a driver who doesn't drive for your favourite team.
This is a bit new to me. I wasn't online when he retired (financial reasons) and I've never got overly defensive about a driver (Vettel a little). This has changed things. If Alonso and Schumacher have a tussle I will side with Schumacher.

Once the Scuderia signed Alonso the writing was on the wall.
There was suddenly no place for Schumacher on the pit wall and his comrades in arms had all moved to pastures new. Schumacher is clearly still in love with F1 and Ferrari were forcing him onto the side lines. Hardly surprising that he's been tempted to move like his former teammates. The Scuderia is bigger than any one person.
