I love the way that is used as an excuse for losing, the great drivers never make excuses like that they just go out and blitz the so-called number one. When Hamilton dominates Button it'll be on pure raw speed not any kind of special treatment.

Oh... just like when MS blitzkrieged Hill and Villeneuve for WDC, blocked Alonso in Monaco, throw away Heidfeld and Frentzen out of track and his own teammate Rubens for years ?

You love and call him a great driver, but I call him very small driver. down.gif

Hill pushed Schumacher off track on more than one occassion, but you seem to disregard that.

The tragedy of 1997 was that if Schumacher hadn't hit JV, he would have gone flying off the track. There was no way JV could have stopped that car in time.

Senna deliberately took out Prost in 1990, told the media he would do so and did it, but is still considered a hero. It seems Schumacher's immense statistical success means people hold him to a higher standard than they do with other drivers, and I can't say that's entirely fair.

I'm not defending him, if he'd been patient and just got out of JV's way, it would have taken care of itself. Sadly, he chose a less than honorable course of action. You're seeing things in my post that simply aren't there.

So we are at Jerez'97 again? How predictable in a MS thread that at some point a hater will throw this in, regardless if it's reletad or not to the original topic! (And how incredibly boring too.) drunk.gif

If the noises coming out of the media are anything to go by, your wish might just come true. Bild are punting a rumour that he´s been offered 7 million by Merc, and that he´s thinking about it.
Personally, I wouldn´t put any money on this happening as Bild are about as reliable as a 1957 Trabant, but it was reported on DSF as well, so it´s gaining momentum. Should be interesting.

More interesting than Bild is Andrew Benson's article on his blog: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/20..._looking_i.html

Several sources telling him the deal is done. Sabine Kehm not willing to comment. Add to that Fry and Brawn not willing to comment earlier on. It all points into one direction.

I know that we have a thread for Schumi-Merc, but since this is an agreement, and that a thread full of speculations, I figured to start a fresh thread for the move.

Also, some German tweeters are claiming they heard this from their news.

Nice one..hopefully, Schumi can do some work..worried he might suck, but ahh...good to see him back!

Done deal? Prob, some more quotes (but yeah I want a VALID CONFIRMATION, myself.)

Yessir, it's I think from the German press, a tv named N24 or so. But yeah im with you, let's wait for Schumi's words himself.

Focus reports that there is an agreement between Merc and MS:

http://www.focus.de/sport/formel1/formel-1...aid_462436.html

Contract will be signed if MS passes medical checks.

Focus is much much more reliable than Bild, so it looks like an almost done deal.

(The article also mentions that Daimler does not understand why Mercedes signs a driver for 5 million Euro in these hard times. What a ridiculous statement considering the advertisement effect of MS for Mercedes ...)
RodrigoL
Why is this coming as a shock to some?

Schumi isn't actually contracted to Ferrari, and no doubt Teflonso is giving all his worth for things to stay that way. Plus, it probably helps that MS' biggest fear won't be around any more .. smile.gif
airwise
I'd be delighted to see the German back for a season -it would be wonderful to see him driving a competitive car and competing with Teflonso (in an uncompetitive Ferrari). Kind of 2005 role reversal with a twist.

His racing has to be good for the sport - if not potentially for Mr. Rosberg's career path.

Edited because whoever is farking around with my posts should have the decency to PM me first and secondly to look at other posts that they are not farking with.

Focus claims though that he will drive for 3.5 Euro. I really think someone like Michael couldn't go cheaper than this, so the trade union at Daimler should be pleased..... Kimi probably would have cost a LOT more. Even Jenson.

I stand corrected: it's 5 mio, not 3.5. Still cheaper than Kimi or Jenson would have been, I think.

Motorsport-total.com also claims that Mercedes count on Schumi for a long term also as an ambassador.

Most interesting quote of that article in my eyes is this:

QUOTE (Damon Hill)
"If this is what Michael wants, he should go for it. He can do something he enjoys and show everyone that he is a nice guy underneath and he is a sportsman."

Apparently Damon holds no grudge against Schuey for Adelaide 1994 (which in my eyes was a simple sporting accident), whereas the antis keep on having nightmares about it.

What I think happened is that with Alonso and with Santander arriving, Michael probably figured that his days are numbered at Ferrari. 'Cause I would imagine, even from a PR (road cars) aspect, maybe Sandander wouldn't be happy with Schumacher being the face of Ferrari, they want them to be all Alonso's and Schumi was definitely a disturbing factor in forming a new Alonso+Santander+Ferrari image. And also probably Alonso wasn't happy about Michael possibly advising Felipe and being a valuable ally to him. So I guess it will be better for everybody. Also for the tifosi, who now will have an easier time warming to Alonso.

From Michael's aspect too it would be a logical step then. He could come back and try once more, but apparently he is also offered an ambassador role at Mercedes on the long term, while at Ferrari on the long term he possibly would have been pushed out.

In the wake of these new developments though I cannot help wondering about Luca's three car idea. Initially I thought it was to solve the Kimi-Alonso dilemma, but then Luca kept pushing the idea even after Kimi was gone. So maybe Michael expressed a wish to want to race again long time ago. And now he picked up an opportunity at Merc.

I think what Damon means is that Schumacher would have the opportunity to show that he is now a better sportsman than he was, and change the perceptions towards him. He is talking about setting a new and better example, something he failed to do, at least in parts, before. It does seem that he does indeed believe that it is within Michael's makeup to do so, which is a nice positive he-has-surely-seen-the-light-by-now attitude.

The older I get, the more I appreciate Damon the man.
