I met Jackie Stewart circa 96ish on Kensington High Street, London. He and his wife were trying to cross the road.
I just shouted out "hey, Jackie Stewart" and extended my hand and he shook it. I told him his new team (Stewart) were going to do well. His wife smiled and nodded as if she was looking at a madman!

Next race they got the 2nd place at Monaco! That man owes me a drink!

I've not actually met any driver, but when I was 8 or 9 years old I was supposed to be going to some sort of event at Silverstone which was cancelled because of Princess Diana's death so we ended up going to the Jordan factory across the road and they let me sit in the car they were working on. That was nice of them.

It depends on what do you mean by "met".
I have autographs from:
2009 drivers: Hamilton, Alonso, Massa, Kubica, Kovalainen, Button, Barrichello, Rosberg, Nakajima, Piquet Jr, Fisichella, Vettel, Alguersuari. Liuzzi
Former F1 drivers: J. Villeneuve, Arnoux, Berger, K. Rosberg, Coulthard, Sato, Davidson, Monteiro
Other than that, several GP2 and WSR drivers (notably di Grassi, Parente, J. Villa, Charles Pic, James Walker...)
Other F1 personell: Bernie , Jean Todt , Ross Brawn, Ron Dennis, M. Theissen, Briatore, C. Horner, Luca Baldisseri
I talked to: Alonso (for about 2 minutes), Arnoux (few sentences) and a minute or two with Parente

My wife and I met Ralf, funny story. We were waiting for a table at a restaurant and were just hanging out in front of the place and here comes Ralf, alone. He speaks with the hostess and then leaves. On his way out my wife asks for a quick picture, he obliged, and off he went. Very polite considering he'd just been turned away from the restaurant. Maybe ten minutes later here comes Ralf again, only this time with some friends. As he walked by us again he recognized that we were still there and he says something to the effect of "here we go again." This time his party was seated. A couple of minutes later we were seated and an aisle over was Ralf, and a couple tables away from Ralf was Sutil. Nobody seemed to recognize Sutil, and I have to admit, I wasn't 100% at the time. Mark Webber was in the bar when we arrived.
I've always told my wife that people of fame should be left alone while eating. My wife agreed when Ralf had his dinner interrupted no less than three times, people having their kids sit next to him, etc. We never had a chance to meet Webber or Sutil for this reason.
Once we were seated the manager of the joint came over and talked to us, which seemed odd. He was curious as to who my wife had her picture with. After dinner we were unable to get to the parking garage the way we came, so I went back to the restaurant to ask how to get there. She gave me directions and as I turned to walk away she asked me who my wife had her picture taken with!
Our digital camera died earlier that day so all we have is a blurry phone picture. Better than nothing I guess.

What good is it to tell just the names of who you met. If you don't present the circunstances behind the encounter and what not. Without that is not very interesting.
This will sound crazy. But my Mom, at time I believe 37 years old. Tells me about 15 years ago or so was in a party with Barrichello and he kept 'flirting' looking at her in that party. But she wasn't really attracted and didn't gave him much opening. He wasn't exactly very known at the time. I thought later on, how lovely it would have been if it had worked out, to have had a F1 star stepfather, go on traveling around the world, watching races 1 hand, not bad..

Mika and Erja Hakkinen at a classic event just to say hello.
Talked with Jack Brabham about his views on then and now etc. Very hard to talk with because he is profoundly deaf but a very thoughtful fellow.
Stirling Moss who is crisp and concise (almost rehearsed) and keen to get back to Suzie by the swmming pool.
John Surtees who is prepared to give detailed answers to questions and is animated when you push the right buttons.
Kenny Roberts (Sr - the 3 x World MC Champ) deals with visitors with a great sense of humour and good charm.
Giacomo Agostini - a charming and surprisingly modest man whose admiration of Hailwood is profound.
Denny Hulme - extremely private man with a sense of humour not immediately apparent.
Chris Amon - delightful guy with no regrets despite his lack of good fortune (considers himself lucky just to have survived that era).
Driver I would most like to meet - Dan Gurney, by all accounts a very modest and astute man.
Of the modern F1 drivers really only Vettel, the rest strike me as devoid of personality, shy or arrogant.

Indeed, this shouldn't be a collection of signatures for fanboys. Actually sometimes the mechanics and so on are just as interesting. Drivers tend to build their own world around them and have a cockpit and mirrors view of events. When you put them alongside other drivers who were there they don't match up and not only for egotistical reasons. Te guys on pitwall often have a much broader idea of what's going on. Some of the older mechanics who used to take the car out for a shakedown at a test day have some great stories. I have never been able to see the point in getting a whole bunch of autographs in a program unless it was used for the opportunity of talking to them and asking them one burning question.

Mostly people at Goodwood. David Pearson and Al Unser Sr...very shy. Jack Brabham...even as an octogenerian he has a presence and almost an aura of intimidation about him. Richard Petty...the archetypal Southern gentleman. Gary Bettenhausen...encyclopaedic knowledge of the cars he has driven.
Outside Goodwood, Murray Walker...nice bloke, real enthusiast, willing to share inside info with a pre-teenager. John Watson is probably the one I've spoken to longest, another one with encyclopaedic knowledge and a great enthusiast. And Andy Green - should be Sir - is perhaps the nicest sleb I've ever met.
Not met Moss, but he did whizz past me at the NEC one year, in earnest discussion with Simon Taylor as they headed for the live arena. The only word in their conversation I clearly heard was "totty".

What actually constitutes 'meeting'? I've "met" as in:
- walked by
- asked for an autograph
- exchanged a word or two
- had a few minutes of conversation

- Mark Webber
- Nick Heidfeld
- David Coulthard
- Anthony Davidson
- Rubens Barichello

Once at Road Atlanta. In the pits at SCCA runoffs, totally accesible and open.
Once on Long Island. Was driving by in his Jag, we waved and he stopped to say hello.

Met quite a few over the years at places like Donington & Rockingham. Alonso, Wlison, Verstappen, Mansell, Hill, Brian Herta, David Saelens, Jason Plato, Martin Hines, John Watson, Stirling Moss, Paul Stewart, Frentzen, Trulli, Andrea de Ceasaris, Eddie Jordan to name a few. Strange how you sometimes might just get an autograph and at other times get a decent conversation out of the guys. John Watson always had a chat when bumped into (he recognised my son at our second meeting!). Jo Ramirez was nice aswell. Stirling was very nice and relaxed (no complaints there) and most of the people I have had the fortune to meet have been willing to sign autographs or had pictures taken.
