Di Resta's ambition is to become an F1 WDC lets hope he has more of an impact than Coulthard - it would be good to have another Scot on the grid

Good .... I was starting to worry about di Resta.

These young driver days will undoubtedly get exciting! Hope Jules Bianchi gets an outing in the Ferrari as well, along with several other F3 and WSR drivers!

I'm really hoping that di Resta gets into F1 soon. He is very talented and it would be nice to have another Scot in F1. smile.gif

It's criminal that he's not in F1. He firmly beat Vettel in Euro F3 and he's shown he's no mug in tin-tops too.

Come on Norbert. take your tounge out of Seb's bottom and look at the talent you have on your hands already.

Agreed!

well Brawn \ Mercedes need a second driver can't go much wrong than Di Resta who should have made it to F1 by now already
Will
If Mercedes want some positive press after the Button incident they could do a lot worse than giving di Resta a break- would help shift some of the press focus away from McLaren.
Madras
He was a year older than Vettel in F3.

Yes. Me too. A real waste of talent if he doesn't at least get a chance.

Someone needs to roll the dice on him. They'll come up trumps if they do as he's an excellent driver with bags of potential.

A whole year! Seriously though, I don't think anyone is say he is better then Seb. Just if is comparable in similar cars then he must be worth a go.

It's probably Mercedes who are getting Force India to run him.

Didn't he test a McLaren under similar circumstances at a damp Silverstn. last year?

Signing his cousin will make up for not taking Dario to Mclaren. drunk.gif

Paul did wonders in a year old Mercedes in DTM.

Be great to see him in F1, he's an ultra-talented guy, even if he is Scottish tongue.gif

Force India have now confirmed that di Resta will be testing for them next month alongside JR Hildebrand: http://www.forceindiaf1.com/index/page_id/356/news_id/269

Another update on the Di Resta F1 test

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80327

I really hope he makes it into F1 for 2010. I think it will be exciting to have such big changes in the Drivers market (not that I'm bias) lol.gif
ac39
he's solid. utterly dominated everyone when we raced in jica in 2001. especially in the wet. thoroughly deserves a frontrunning f1 drive for 2010.
Peat
Yep, i'd happily take a punt on him. Can't believe he's not in F1 by now anyway!

I rate Hilderbrand a bit too. His one off A1GP appearance was impressive (in that he eclipsed anything Andretti had ever done in the car, not that hard i know.....) and his road-course form in Lights has been good.
athlon
I'm so sad that he won't be driving for Mercedes. frown.gif Does anybody know the lineup of Mercedes for next week?
JKTRacing
There are better young drivers coming up, Di Resta is ok.. ish, but hes old now. Give it 2 more years and there will be 3 or 4 Hamiltons coming

ac39 he got beaten by Alex Sims if you remember, and Alex is a couple years younger

Old? At 23-years-old?!! lol.gif

He's had three very successful seasons in DTM, defeated team-mate Vettel in 2006 to succeed Lewis Hamilton as F3 Euro Series champion and won recognition by Autosport in 2004 when he was crowned with their BRDC Award. He has more to offer than a lot of the other wannabes floating around in the various feeder series at the moment.

Di Resta is talented, there is no questions about it. Two concerns I have.

1. Drivers who go from Tin Tops to Formula cars tend to struggle as the open wheelers are more unpredictable. Source, "Drive to Win" - Carroll Smith

2. If he were testing for any other team than FI, I think it would demonstrate talent versus a Mercedes connection as the reason for the test opportunity.

Regardless of my concerns I hope he does well.

Yeah, JR did look pretty special on that A1GP run, didn't he? Must be a fast learner at least...

And I'll back Di Resta for a seat anytime.

Yes, but like Dario and Fisichella he has an extensive background in open-wheels. ITC didn't slow them down, and I doubt a couple of seasons in DTM will have blunted Di Resta's abilities.

His A1GP outing was very impressive. It wasn't just outdoing anything Andretti did all season long in his first outing. It was also a podium in a competitive field at a difficult track.

And his Indy Lights year was also very good. Along with Summerton(who's just not able to get the funding to stay in a competitive spot for any length of time) and Alex Rossi(who's also getting an F1 test!), its pretty good looking for young American drivers, which we cant say all that often.

Funny thing is that none of these guys are really in the running for a USF1 seat. That goes to Argentinians. blush.gif

But he did in Super1 that its the one that counts? actually I think it was 2002

And yes, there are better drivers coming up

Edit, including: http://www.mclaren.com/theteam/oliver-rowland.php

Who is in karting still, but he will be another "surprise" in a couple of years because he has no "experience"... ac39 knows what im talking about.. when people think Karting is just for fun and doesnt count as motor racing
ac39
i remember when people thought oliver jarvis was going to be the next big thing. great in karting, not so impressive afterwards.
di resta's been solid post-karting too. year old equipment in dtm, giant killer.
JKTRacing
oliver jarvis ? lol

Im talking about real talent not the daddy that spent the most!!

Success in karting means potential and thats all. Its no guarantee of success in cars. Despite their similarities and the common demoninator of karting in most open-wheeler's backgrounds, karting is still a different world than driving a open-wheeled car, especially a high-downforce, high-powered one.

Not saying Rowland isn't gonna be a force in 4 or 5 years from now, I'm just saying that you cant just say, "He's a top karter, he's definitely gonna be an F1 star one day." And funding isn't the only reason. Liuzzi was once top of the class in the karting world, but he's struggled to even get a ride in the worst(ex-worst) team on the grid.

There's no telling if Rowland is or isn't gonna be better than Di Resta or Hildebrand or whoever. Its just something we're gonna have to see unfold as it unfolds.

I hope he proved himself enough to have a future in F1 - he had pretty impressive times.
