Do you think he could have done for Red Bull what Rubens did for Brawn last season?
Yes, this year would have been DC's year.
Or not.

No
No. As much as I like the guy, his 2008 was horrible. Silly incidents all over the place. He'd very visibly given up by mid-season and retirement was inevitable.
Carrying on for another year wasn't ever an option for DC. With the in mind, his 2009 would likely have been dire.

Got beat by his teammate, then whined about it? Yes, he could have done that.

This is a good summary imo.

I agree, but I think he would have done a better job filling in at Ferrari than Badoer or Fisico did!

This.
His heart just wasn't in it anymore.

I think DC's performances in 2008 were a lot to do with how he qualified and where he qualified and I couldn't much see that improving this year. His qualy performances seemed to suffer somewhat from one-lap qualy onwards.
So in answer to the OP; no, this year wasn't DC's year.
How many people on these forums made fun of Coulthard in 2008? He was really losing his edge. It's a good thing that he retired when he did. 2009 would have been an ugly year.
With the prospect of a good car I think he would have come alive again. However with the 2009 featuring the closest qualifying sessions I can ever remember I feel he would not have performed as well as someone else in the car.
agree with Buttoneer about DC's qualifying issues. All started in 2003.

RBR wouldn't have taken him back, if they didn't put Vettel in that seat he would've been gone this year.

I liked DC, but 2008 was a year too many, much like Damon Hill in 1999.
