Due to the amount of time lost by Kimi he will be running quite a way down the order... but at each control he checks into, I would suspect the car ahead will let him go to the line ahead of them...as no one wants a WRC with a mad Fin behind the wheel when they are in an N4! ;)
They might replace him at a regroup if they have one.. come join us in the chat room if you want to discuss live..
Safety car is now in stage 5 and halfway in there looks like a fantastic downhill section...along the side of what looks like a reasonable hill... should a be a testing stage for them..

I've been followin BB forum for a while but Kimi's WRC challenge made me register. Couldn't resist

I've been watchin F1 closely for 17 years, reading F1technical forums (for last couple of years) and considered WRC just one of lower levels of motorsport. But as Kimi's fan (actually he and Ayrton Senna are my only favourite drivers) I started to be interested in WRC. And when I saw some stunning videos and pictures from Kimi's tests for arctic lapland rally...I think I've fallen in love again! It seems this sport is full of relaxed people enjoying life, without the F1 politics and PR-machines. And the sheer speed of the cars on the icy road jumping...Amazing!
Looking forward to learn about the sport from some of you, who seem to know a lot of stuff about this - for me - absolutely new territory of motorsport.
It's "Novikov curse". It's the same car Novikov used in 2009. What do you expect?

There is no doubt.... you will find a level of freindliness and openess in a rally service park, unlike any race paddock.. it really is a more relaxed approach to things... I like to consider WRC like Rugby... and F1 like Football...
Anyway... welcome to fray!

Anyone getting times for stage 4? I have 12 cars through and now a very long delay...either the timing has gone down..or someone hashad an off to shut/block the stage..

Read my thoughts above... I suspect an off may have blocked the stage..
This is the problem Kimi now faces...if he is further down the field due to running later on the road...he has greater risk of less capable drivers going off the road ahead of him and potentially not allowing him to get runs on some stages, as they will simply cancel some if the block is bad enough.

We now seem to have a delay in SS5....

C'mon fellas ...keep it out the banks!

Maybe Mikkonen went off? But Solowow is now through 5... if we get cars 13 and 14 through...then it was a timing problem on SS4..if not... likely a shunt...

Yes, apparently it's just a communications problem. No major accidents or anything but stage times aren't making their way from stage finish to results service. SS4 has been run without major incidents.

I'm not so sure.... It looks like Mikkonen may have gone off on SS5...and now we have had no others through 5 which suggests they are all still stuck at 4... which would be an off rather than a timing issue...
They would then all have to turn round if they cannot run through the stage and go start stage 5, taking a stage set time for SS5... we'll see ifanyone else comes through SS5..

Yep he is holding about a second a KM off Sordo's times... that's a good pace for him today! He is showing no signs of slowing on the longer stages and in fact might be picking the pace up a tad which is good to see...certainly seems he is a quick learner..

I'm suprised that pace readers are still used in top level when technically road ahead could be show:n to driver using helmet or windscreen. (lines of the road would shown like driver had a x-ray) That would remove problem of not knowing road ahead.
It just came into my mind after reading that Kimi went off because he heard wrong. (number 5 instead of 3)

Good point but although it might show the lines of the road it wouldn't be able to show changing conditions i imagine, even down to things like tyre tracks in the snow.

Yes and the problem with tire tracks in the snow.... is what is hidden under the snow!

For example.... "there's his line...I'll follow that....BANG!...hit a rock..break the suspension and two corners later you see the car who was ahead of you..pulled over with the same broken suspension..."
You have to be very careful when following other cars lines rather than listening to your own pace notes...the same thing happens with grass and corners....grass has a tendancy to grow over holes and rocks...
ALL part of the rally learning game!

Indeed, in fact i just read a comment elsewhere from a poster named Vers who was there watching the 3rd stage..

Rami rolled three times but managed to get the car back on the road and drive the stage to the end but he lost half an hour.
They put extra headlights to Kimi's car and they were installed too high which slowed Kimi down on the 3rd and 4th stage. Yet Räikkönen was the second fastest in the 3rd stage.
They got it fixed by the 5th stage.
(Info thanks to Nicole)

Well, they did not slow him down as much as the tree did ;)
An ok day for Kimi, he did not improve the aerodynamics of the car, but he got a good reminder of what happens if you do not pay full attention to your co-driver. I would think that is exactly the kind of experience he needs from this rally.
But before we announce Kimi as WRC WDC 2010, remember that Sordo drives this rally for the first time. He is doing a good job.
