Just a place marker to discuss any of this evenings award winners, thoughts, etc...

There is one that REALLY jumps out at me....

Rookie of the Year!!!!!!!

Kris Meeke! eek.gif !!!!!!!!!!! drunk.gif

Now Kris is a great lad, but I would hardly call him a rookie....! lol.gif

Surely Kobyashi... ?

Kris has been running at a top level for quite some time now, so I was really surprised to see this announcement. Great to see him get it...just a little strange I think...

Great to see Sarah Moore get an award for British Club Driver....very well deserved! clap.gif

I voted for him, first season in the IRC and he wins it.

This will probably stoke up a hornet's nest, but how can the Brawn BGP001 win racing car of the year, against the Red Bull RB5, which was technically more superior, the fastest on the F1 grid, and not in development since the Jurassic era?

The International Racing Driver category is a bit of a sham as well. Shouldn't include any UK based drivers if you ask me!

Sarah Moore winning British Club Driver was well-deserved. I've watched her race all year at the BTCC events and she rocks cool.gif

Live commentary was saying that the Racing Car of the Year was between the Brawn and the Peugeot 908. I really would have liked to see the diesel Frenchie win this one. It's only been 4 times in 28 years, for God's sake, that this award was won by a non-F1 car.
Rob
The awards are far too F1-centric. Clearly now that the magazine has been dumbed down for the lowest common denominator, we are getting people who will vote for F1 at the expense of anything else, simply because it is F1.

Just a wild stab in the dark, but because it won more races, the drivers' title and the constructors' title?

True dat.

But still, doesn't necessarily mean it was the best car this year though? But what am I saying? It's the public who voted for the majority of the awards...

Mike Conway was also a winner last night.

A Peugeot 206, or this one to be precise, in the charity raffle held during the ceremony last night. Only thing he's won all year...

It allowed Barrichello to win as many times as Webber.

Hi,

Will the Autosport Awards be televised in the UK, and if so where and when will it be on? Thanks in advance.

That was just text highlights.

Looking at the picture gallery for the event there does appear to have been some cameras present. The last Autosport Awards to be shown on TV (edited highlights) was back in 2007 I think?

That seems very odd not to have had it televised -- even as a pre-rec on one of the digital channels. As if no-one in the UK interested in motorsport wouldn't want to watch it?

Lets be fair, desperate as most of us are at this moment-in-time for anything motor sport related to appear on the TV, an award ceremony like this is not the most exciting of things to watch is it? I can imagine if you where invited to attend it would be an entirely different story.

I think ITV showed 1 hour highlights either last year or two years ago. Shown at 10:30pm. I doubt that will be the case this year though as they no longer cover F1.

For the intl. drivers award I feel Dario Franchitti earned it more than Button...
