@Hamish Robson, those built Tamiyas are superb! The Matra is my favourite. How long did it took you to built that? eek.gif

@Kitkent, did you built that yourself? Tameo kit? Looks very impressive! cool.gif Btw, great Brawndecal on the BBR standard! What is Silver Line? Is that your sig?

@Vodoun, thanks for your post! Lol. Flood the place with great photos will always be appreciated! tongue.gif You know I always enjoy your photos!!! The Kubica is my favorite because of the cool horns and white stripes on tyres! I think the 1/18 F1 Sauber BMW's will getting more rare because they left F1?

Hope this is not straying off topic but what do people rate as the best model kit manufacturers?

Sorry I should add that I only have expereince with Tamiya but am totally blown away by how good they are, would appreicate feedback on more expereince people and modellers in this forum.

Kitkent
Lewis, thanks for looking! Silverline is Tameo, don't know the difference, really. The kit cost £68. Tameo are acknowledged to be the best metal 1/43 kits,I have to agree there. I did builld this but they don't supply any carbon fibre decal which is unusual,so had to cover the whole of the base, exhaust and floor with carbon fibre decal. My photos are not good enough to show thiis -must do better! The badge is photo etch supplied,Silverline is decal supplied in the kit,so applied them to the BBR base. Had to have a Jenson champions car. Normally only make resin or metal 1/43,and have only made 1 plastic car kit in my life!
Hamish Robson
@ Lewis: Thanks for the kind words. The Matra took me a couple of months to complete BUT I get very little time for my hobby so have to take an hour here, two hours there. It was a very satisfactory build, especially as the moulds are basically 40 years old!

@ rallen: From my plastic kit experience (35 years and counting) I would rate Tamiya as the highest quality plastic F1 kits, but Fujimi are catching up with their recent Ferraris, and the Hasegawa 312s look good too. So many models, so little time...

Thanks Hamish, yeah I have only done Tamiya yet but I am so impressed with them, I just wish they had a bigger range, any idea if they will be releasing more kits in the future?

some of the other Japanese f1 kits look amazing but they are very expensive and I have no real knowledge of them.

Tamiya is releasing the 2009 Ferrari F60 F1 car this month. It is their 59th 1/20th kit.

Thanks Hamish, you are impressivley informed! I was rather hoping they would do some more historic kits soon too (not sure you know if any are planned)

Would be nice to see a Tyrrell 06, Lotus 49 even up to the Williams FW15. Any particular cars that haven't been done yet (by anyone even?) that you guys would like to see?
Hamish Robson
Hasegawa will release the Lotus 79 soon in 1/20th, and Fujimi the Williams FW14B in the same scale.

No model of Andrea Moda but someone was planning the Lola kit if I remember correctly, but it got shelved just like the real car. MG models of Italy did make a kit of the Mastercard? Chesterfield? 1993 Lola. Check on Grand Prix Models every day as they now say what has arrived new today. Love the Fujimi Ferrari made by Hamish,I'm very impressed.

@Kitkent, only built 1 kit? The quality is very good so I thought you made so more, you must have talent for it! smile.gif I now know why your name is Kitkent stoned.gif carbonfire looks so cool ain't it! The hours of work created something very beautiful. Did not know about the Silverline name, thanks. I agree with you that the Tameo kits are the best. I am looking for some factory built 1/43 Tameo F1 kits of Lewis or from the Brawn of Button.

I don't have the patience for kits, I wish I had, but please guys and girls confused.gif keep us updated with your F1 kits or other F1 model cars. Kits are always the most detailted!

I see. I am not an expert but I know another guy who makes some kits and he told me that your way is the best way to built a kit. After a hour the parts can dry, etc.? How big is the Matra in cm? Do you guys place them in a display? Those precious pieces may not get dusty of course! tongue.gif

My favorite rated manufacturers are

Diecast metal 1:43: Minichamps
Diecast metal 1:18: Autoart or Kyosho
Kits 1:43: Tameo or BBR
Built kits 1:43: BBR or Tameo

Two new Minichamps 1/43 F1 releases for this Friday

Maybe some readers will now also start collecting them! If so, welcome to the club and just to let you know when you start collecting them, it may well get very addictive! smile.gif up.gif

Cheers Lewis,I'll have to get the camera out again.......I'm really a sportscar bloke,go to the races FIA GT etc. and make endless sportscar models. The Brawn is the first Tameo I have made for a while,Jenson deserved his championship this year.
Kitkent

Something different in 1/43.Jagaur R5 Oceans Twelve conversion.

Look Smart 1/43 F1 Lamborghini 1991. I picked this up at Le Mans a couple of years ago- bargain at about 40 euros. BBR type factory built model.

Definitely? I've heard from another source that it's looking most unlikely this month.
Exar Kun
Tamiya are actually doing another F1 car? Jeez - what was the last one? Williams FW24?
Hamish Robson
@ vodoun: HobbyLink Japan still say December, and, according to the F1M forum, it is already on the shelves in Canada.

@ Exar Kun: Yes I think you are right, the Williams was the last NEW kit, but they have re-released the Lotus 99T and the Tyrrell P3/4 since that.
rallen
Wow love the Lamborghini from 1991, very nice, and rare too?!

I didn't realise they had re-released the Tyrrell, in what scale?
Jager
Some nice historic F1 cars in 1:43 are coming from Spark like this model of Fangio's Mercedes from the 1954 Swiss G.P.

Great detail for the price (or for those with two thumbs who don't have the skill to build kits) :

Many years ago, I built this Tamiya kit:

...but I sold it along with 9 other 12th scale Tamiyas on Ebay about 5 years ago. They had been stored for many years in one big box in the loft and some were a little the worse for wear.

At time of building, neither the Walker Lotus 49 nor the Yardley McLaren were available so those two were cobbled up by myself.

Macca
I was going to say about the Yardleymac.............???

The only Tamiya I ever built was the Marlboro M23, but it didn't last long enough to go on fleabay.

Without wishing to sound crude, how much have you all spent on model cars over the years?
Barry Boor
I wouldn't have the initial beginnings of the commencement of the first idea - sorry.
Kitkent
I have no idea either, but then I don't smoke or play golf;saving myself a fortune into the bargain!
Barry Boor
Likewise, but to that you can add, don't drink, either. smile.gif
Bjorn Kjer
Ha, ha ! I dont drink , I dont have a car , but I smoke pibe , and buy models (1 /87)
jj2728
I smoke, drink, and still have no idea, nor do I wish to know, how much I spend on my 1/43rd collection annually......enough, I suppose, to add between 25 and 30 cars per year.
raceannouncer2003
I have over 300 models, and I try to limit myself to $25 max for each one.

Vince H.
Barry Boor
Well, Vince, I can't imagine what you buy these days, then. I have over 260 sports cars (1950-1966) and around 70 single seaters (1950-1965) and although Brumm models can still be picked up relatively cheaply, I rarely see anything I want for less than $35 - $50 U.S.

Spark are the main producers of cars that fit my collection these days and theirs start at the thick end of $50 and often more.

I saw a Spark model Trevor Taylor Lotus 25 - Spa 1962 (I think) at Oulton Park, and it was not far off £50 sterling.

Even Ebay seems to have gone expensive.
Kitkent
I heard that Minichamps are not now the distributor of Spark cars now,so prices will reduce by a few quid. I spotted someone on ebay last week pay about £86 for an unmade SMTS March F1 kit when you can get them for roughly £40 as they were only recently released! That is just plain silly.

speaking of ebay prices...

It seems to be increasingly difficult to find models (diecast, not kits) from distributors that are willing to sell at the r.r.p. Now it seems they are using ebay to flog their stuff at inflated prices especially for limited editions and models of cars that are special in one way or another.

I have a collection which has been trimed down to the cars I only really like. I'm now focusing on quality rather than quantity. However, I can't deny that even though I am more than content with my salary, I always have to endure a slight bitter taste when spending anything more than say £20 for a 1/43 as in the grand scheme of it all they are dead bits of plastic and metal that sit on a shelf when there are people homeless and/or hungry. ambivalent.gif

Am I the only one that has this thought process when bidding on ebay?

On a seperate note, I've noticed Solido are producing models of the McLaren Tags from 85 and 86. From the pictures on ebay, they look good, yet they are significantly cheaper than what you would expect in this day and age. Why?

I guess we're lucky on this side that there are 2 online retailers that have exceptional service and good pricing. Here's the links for them:
http://www.tomotorsports.com/catalog/index...e97f9b8e7ab66ed
http://www.replicarz.com/

As far as ebay goes, I suppose it's what you are looking for, how badly you want it, and how much cash you are willing to part with to attain it. Occasionally I happen to find some very good deals on cars I would have not otherwise purchased.
Barry Boor
I have bought many models from Replicarz; they are excellent dealers, but the silly value of sterling these days makes even Replicarz expensive. Not their fault, of course.

Not much these days, Barry. For one thing, I am pretty happy with my collection, and don't have too many more models on my wish list. It certainly it is harder now to find ones that fall within my stingy budget!

Amen to that!

The problem is, this Spark outfit keep coming up with models I covet, but stinginess rules!

Sadly Minichamps are still handling Spark distribution in the the UK, for the time being at least. I say sadly because the UK distributor doesn't have much of a clue about cars.

Ebay prices for in production kits can be ridiculous, but then if people are daft enough to pay that rather than speaking to established dealers and actually trusting them to backorder, more fool them. Mind you, if you're used to the random availability of a lot of the die-casts, I can understand people getting a little itchy when things take a few weeks to come through.

Does anybody know where I can find an up to date release schedule for the IXO Ferrari la storia collection and Hotwheels Elite Ferrari collection?
