About all you can do is check the IXO website, if and when they update it. I don't usually know what's coming out with them till I see TOMO or REPLICARZ advertise them on their respective sites.

I've seen the IXO website but the flow of releases seems to have come to a halt. Hotwheels seem to have taken over but I cant find a link to their official website with their Ferrari F1 elite products.

I don't think IXO has stopped producing the La Storia collection. The rumor mill has it that REDLINE will no longer produce 1/43rd Ferraris which is a shame because they were quite good.

If Ixo do stop it wouldn't be a bad thing at all. The F1-87 must be the most pathetic looking model I've seen!

At Race Retro yesterday I managed to spot a K&R Replicas metal kit of a Connaught A-type. It was on a stand showing some fabulous large scale models and was one of about half a dozen assorted 43rd scale kits the man had for sale.

The kit has no tyres, no exhaust pipe and no windscreen but at a mere £10 I had to grab it as I have never seen one of these kits before.

It will sit nicely among my F.1 model collection when (if?) I ever finish making it.

I don't have that one, but of the 7 or so that I do have, they seem to have done a pretty decent job of it.

The 126 C3 for example isn't bad at all. The proportions look good and the detail is to a decent standard. However, have you noticed the inside sidewalls of the tyres? Have a look on ebay! It is a joke considering the price you pay. They have done the same on all of the 1970's Ferrari's.

They have made the F1-87 look like an off-road car when you see the ground clearance. The proprtions are completely wrong and less said about the suspension the better! How this model made it to the production line i'll never know.

In this day and age with the technology available, I really don't know how they can get it so wrong. Have a look at the size height and thickness of the rear wing of the Ferrari 156/85 made by Mattel. A joke. And then the rear wing of the 1985 Renault by Spark. Another amazing flaw.

Minichamps and Brumm appear to be the only mass production maker that has decent quality these days.

Are you saying that Spark are no good or is it that they don't do Ferraris?

From what i've seen of Spark they appear to be quite good but take a look at the rear wing of the 1985 Renault that they have produced. It is simply wrong! Nice touches on that model by the way, but why do model manufacturers have to mess up their good work with silly things?

Spark make or did make? Ferrari models under the Redline name,higher quality but higher prices as they have to pay mattel for a sub licence from Ferrari. Rumour has it that this has now stopped,which is a shame as now the only way to buy a decent Ferrari model is from BBR. Mattel are not about quality but making money for Ferrari as far as I can see. By the way Barry I picked up that very Connaught kit and put it back down again! Had already bought a kit from opposite- from Spencer Elton.

Over the weekend I picked up the new Tamiya 1/20 Lotus 79. In my opinion this subject was long overdue in a quality plastic kit. Years ago I'd picked up the Entex 1/28 scale kit but it's really just a slot car body.

The kit looks really nice but the price was a bit steep, especially considering that I'll be buying the photo etch set and aftermarket decals to get the JPS livery. It was interesting to note how much the livery color differs from the 1/12 Lotus 78 decals. The 78's decals are bright yellow whereas the 79's are a golden/tan color. I'm assuming the gold is more accurate.

The general description of the colour applied to the "real" JPS decals of this era was "biscuit", a sort of tan yellow. This gave the best sponsorship visibility on television.

I have this kit too (and the Hasegawa kit of the same subject) - it looks like it will build well, but I think the wheels are a bit too heavy on the chrome. Thanks for the color info. How do you think the Hasegawa kit stacks up against the Tamiya?

When the Lotus 72 first got the JPS sponsorship the cars were black and gold. But it was found that gold didn't show up on the black and white TV's of the day, and the cars just looked mostly black. So they changed the gold to 'singwriters gold', a proper colour, which is a beige tan colour with no metallic element at all. This carried on through all the later cars.

I'd say each kit has its pro's and con's. The Hasegawa has a great-looking DFV (but with no wiring), some wheel and steering wheel options, and complete (apart from tobacco) markings. The Tamiya is relying on old parts, dating from the 70s, for the engine and wheels, but I'm sure will more easily build into a better kit - their quality is always second to none, and there was nothing wrong with those parts in the first place. Unfortunately Tamiya has no Goodyear tyre markings which I'm sure has something to do with licensing, but these are easily available from the aftermarket.

The Tamiya reissues of the Wolf WR1 in 1:20th and 1:12 scale have just hit the shelves here in the U.S. The 1:12 has photoetch included.

The owner of the hobby shop I go to also mentioned that Tamiya will be reissuing the James Hunt Championship McLaren M23 in 1:20th early next year. Here's hoping they will reissue the 1:12 scale M23 of Fittipaldi.

The Tamiya 1/12th and 1/20th McLaren M23s are both due for re-issue in December. The 1/12th will include some photo-etch, the 1/20th p/e will be available as a seperate accessory item.

Mine have been on pre-order for a while...!

talking about the extreme ebay prices for f1 diecast. well the original minichamps k.rosberg williams fw08 has been exchanging on ebay for £100 +, and what do minichamps do, relaunch it, serves them right

This MclLaren reissue is the biggest modeling news for me since the reissue of the Lola T70 in the late 90's. It's too bad the models will doubtless lack Marlboro markings and the aftermarket decals will set you back a bundle.

This is, unfortunately, the case. M'ro decals are never included in mainstream kits nowadays, similarly the tail symbols on German WW2 aircraft. Just not PC any more. The prices for fill-in decals are not too bad from Japan, around a tenner (UK£) each. The weird thing this time round is that Tamiya appear to have fallen out of love with Goodyear and therefore don't include those either...?

The T70 is currently also on re-issue, with photo-etched parts.

Apparently Goodyear got greedy and alienated a lot of the model manufacturers. Most car models now omit their markings. I recently bought a photo etch painting template with Goodyear (and Dunlop) logos to take care of this on my 1/12th kits.

I saw the T70 reissue but I'll be darned if I'm going to drop $160 just to get the photo etch. I guess Tamiya is holding off making all the new photo etch they've released with their 1/12th kits as a separate accessory. From what I've seen they're just not available on their own.

Yesterday, my Ecurie Ecosse transporter, Cooper-Bristol, and two D type Jaguars that I purchased on eBay arrived from Anyat Diecast Restorations. They look pretty good, although Graham Gauld tells me that none of the EE Cooper-Bristol drivers had a silver helmet! The transporter is cool! Sorted some of my 1/43 stashed away models out.
Have all the "La Storia" series models that were released, other than the woefull imitation bookform by freezerwheels, but they are to difficult to display propperly.
And the series had more starts then models released so sadly it is a flop.

A panoramic view of my studio complete with cnadle holders and Chrismas decorations. Tis the season.....It's a complete mish-mash of stuff, but that's the way I like it. Offhand I'd say I probably have a quarter of my models on display, but I rotate them on occasion.

Brilliant to see someone's "inner Sanctum" from the other side of the globe.
I am running outta room rather quickly it seems as well.

Finally picked up the reissued Tamiya 1/20 McLaren M23. It's so sweet to finally have this model. Now I've got to get the photo etch upgrade and fill-in Marlboro decals.

Can't wait for the 1/12 scale. It's been on my wish list for years.

My hobby shop finally got the 1/12 scale McLaren M23 reissue from Tamiya. Life is sweet.

When I got it home and started looking at reference pictures from '74 I noticed that most showed the M23 with a narrow, almost triangular nose while the model has the broader one. I'd like to build the kit to reflect a particular race and was wondering what the story with the different noses is.

Were there two styles of airbox as well?

Incredible! He even has his own personal kit builder! (I'm glad I found that out, because at one point I was busy calculating the number of man hours this collection must have taken, my last estimate had him clocking in at about 300 years old)

I'm frankly speechless. It looks like he's got cars from every race since the mid seventies.
