just found on confidential-renault forum a post by someone supposed to work in enstone, saying that 2nd driver is signed, a nice one, not French, but speaking french and someone that had contact with renault before.

The Renault team was recently bought out by Luxembourg-based businessman Gerard Lopez, and lost a number of major sponsors over the last few months over the Fixgate scandal, so a paying driver in their second seat looks to increasingly be the preferred option for the French squad.

When its cars were exported to the United States during the 1950s and 1960s, the name was commonly mispronounced as "Ren-alt" to and by the American public, and the Americanized pronunciation continues in common usage, though the original French has gained significant ground over recent years. This was partially countered in the 1980s, when Renault launched a significant television advertising campaign in the United States. The ads featured the tag, "The one to watch," followed by a deep-voiced announcer carefully intoning the brand name. Presently in the United Kingdom it is also incorrectly pronounced as "Reh-no". The correct pronunciation is "Ruh-no".

I wouldn't be so sure about 'Renault don't need a pay driver" part - according to various noises their 2010 budget will be smaller than in previous years so they certainly won't mind getting some additional money. Whether he will push Kubica or not is an open question, he seemed to be good enough in GP2.

First, the R30 has failed the crash test ... there are about 3 weeks. While last year's Renault was informed about similar concerns with the R29, the favorite team to make this time a low profile. In this case, the concern is reached at the crash test front of the car, because tests on the flanks and rear were all successful.

Reportedly, this setback is due to the desire of the Renault F1 engineers to lighten as much as possible their car in order to distribute as they please as much ballast as possible. Thus, the nose has been strengthened, and since the R30 has passed all the steps leading to its approval. Besides, the team has continued during the month just past, a rate of intense development. It has however been somewhat disrupted by the snow that hit England in recent weeks, but not enough to delay the smooth running of operations. The design of the R30 is on schedule.

As you could learn from the mouth of Robert Kubica. The first frame of the R30 is not yet 100% operational, but will be on Monday if everything goes well. The meteor probably go to Valencia on Wednesday, while the Polish driver will cast his bucket on Monday or Tuesday.

In short, expect to R30 much lighter than the R29, in which the team can optimize the placement of ballast.
