JOE and MAX are still with us and I am pretty sure Rod Coleman is too and there may be others in the list

I am sure that Ted Mellors and Walter Rusk were killed in the 2nd world war, apologies if I have missed other lads whom gave the ultimate sacrifice, from any country, perhaps the commonwealth war graves commission could spread some light, sorry to be sad on New Years Eve.

Fred Neville was cremated in September '61 and has no memorial. Speedman, can I ask why you are reseaching this subject?

Locate their graves????.........Is this a joke?

Most definitely not. These men should never be forgotten, even in death. I applaud Paul´s efforts to keep their memories alive.
I would like to site an example.
Paul wrote to me asking if I knew where Ray Amm was buried. After making enquiries I learned that Ray was cremated, although there is still some confusion as to whether his ashes were ever returned to Rhodesia or whether they remained in Italy. I did find out however, that the memorial stone and plaque erected in his honour during the time of the old Rhodesia had been vandalised, and that the motor sport authorities were planning to build a new one in their grounds to celebrate the lives of all our deceased motor sport heroes from those times, including Ray. I´m not sure if this project has been completed yet.
Personally, I think this is important information.

Agree with Rhodes on what Paul has been helping to do.
Many of these riders/drivers graves have been neglected & would have been lost for ever.
Now these people are remembered again, a fine work by all involved to document as many as possible.

Absolutely sure. Although he was Aussie and died in France, he had recently married a Manx girl - Geraldine Reid, who was the sister of Geoff Duke's first wife Pat. Geraldine appeared in some promotional films advertising the IoM for holidays - re-issued on video a few years ago. Their father was the Rev Bertie Reid, who was prominent in Manx motorcycling circles in the 1950s.

I think in the film Continental Circus Nanou Findlay & Keith Campbells wife? go and put flowers on the grave at the cemetery by the TT start (Glencrutchery rd?)

Lest anyone misunderstands my intentions here, let me repeat why I began my interest in the final resting places for fallen riders (and racing drivers). Some years ago a local motorcycle club discovered that in the Christchurch Cemetery in Newport, Wales, lay the grave of Gary Hocking, and this was found to be in a semi-derelict, uncared for condition. With Gary's relatives presumably in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), the club decided to take it upon themselves to restore and care for the grave of a former hero.

This got me into wondering just where the graves of our former heroes were and how well they were cared for. And anyway, why not bring this out into the open so that anyone who cares should have the opportunity of visiting their former heroes and to pay their last respects?

I've visited the graves of a number of riders and drivers in the last few years, some famous, so not so, but they were all heroes to my eyes. Visits were paid to the graves of Mike Hailwood and Piers Courage to name just two. My racing drivers list includes 272 drivers and the riders 78. Of course some drivers and riders just slip away and it has been difficult if not impossible to locate their final resting places.

Just let me stress that I have tried to do this with the utmost tact and consideration for others, and I have been contacted by both enthusists and relatives alike with their appreciation for this task. Thanks.

I had contact with the son of Ernst Degner, living in Teneriffa.
Ernst Degner was born on 22.September 1931 in Gleiwitz/Schlesien (today Poland). His real name was Ernst Eugen Woczlawek. Later on his father changed the name into Degner. Ernst died on 08.September 1983 after a long suffering because a heart-stroke in Chayofa/Teneriffa (part of the town Arona ).His grave is in Chayofa/Teneriffa.…
