Full Version: Jigsaw puzzle nostalgia

Over Christmas I stumbled upon an interesting jigsaw puzzle on our national Marketplace (eBay). Just a km from my home I obtained the 160 pcs, complete, for a Euro and a half.
It shows a Mini grid on what must be Brands Hatch, early 70’s? The box carries not a single mention of the subject, let alone how this English club scene picture ended up in a Dutch produced (Jumbo) jigsaw puzzle of not-too-great difficulty. I solved it myself drunk.gif

Anyone ever found a similar nostalgia product? (there is a newer nice Racing in Monte Carlo jigsaw puzzle by Ravensburger, 500 pcs, 1955? on internet).

Anyone interested to have look for familiar TNF faces among the bystanders on the grid?. A lady is preparing to pick up the 2 mins sign, so the grid is still full of friends and family. I can mail, possibly for you to post (sorry, as a newbee didn’t sort that out yet).

I solved the 160 pcs BMC Mini puzzle myself clap.gif !

More great news: just today I received the Epstein-Cuthbert Racing Jumbo 160 pcs puzzle. Must be Hailwood at Zandvoort in '69, I recognise the Bouwes hotel and the local Team Radio Veronica (our pirate radio station on a vessel) sponsorship! Fortunately it was already assembled...

Remains the essential question: how did a British clubscene pic end up as a Dutch puzzle? Both have the same number on the box.

No idea Cavalier53, but I'd be keen to see a photo of either or, preferably, both!

Have you had a look at the ATTENTION EVERYONE: how to post your images thread? http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=70638

If this works, [LOOKS LIKE IT] then thank PostImage.org and now tell me when the puzzle started and who you recognize.

In a bold move I've now added the "Epstein-Cuthbert" jigsaw with an additional photo I took myself, probably at another event of DNS Jan van Straten. See http://www.oldracingcars.com/results/result.php?RaceID=E69H

or http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV1gjhnA

He put a 4700 cc Ford in a Lotus 24 for local F Libre well before F5000 was invented, and found himself pretty much of the pace and tyre width. He later ran a Lola 2 ltr sports car until it became obsolete and I saw it stuck on the wall of the lobby in his hotel in the Rotterdam port area. Just to see them back on the track in Spa when both had become classic. Jan van Straten passed away a couple of years ago and you'd have to ask other Dutch TNF'ers where either car ended up.

Well, there's a DJ Bond Racing Mini on pole in that Brands pic. Probably Terry Harmer? 1968-ish?

There is a Dutch connection, although I think it's coincidental - DJ Bond also later ran Liane Engeman in a few races.

That burnt orange and chocolate job ought to be easy too ...

Not such a bargain as those puzzles listed here, but Gibsons Puzzles produce an artist's impression based loosely on the 1950 British GP

I posted this earlier on the Cutaway Thread, then tripped over this thread - I'm not sure how many were ever sold, but someone might remember struggling with all that white space!
