Whoever works at the technical department of BBC Formula 1 or Red Button/Interactive services is an absolute joke.

Will we have a single practice session that runs smoothly this year?

Its worked seemlessly 99% of the time for me, can't complain never had anything like this before BBC (ITV had FP coverage at the end but no comms). Just be glad, it's a fantastic service.

Don't get me wrong. It's fantastic, if you've seen any of my posts in this thread you'll know I completely enjoy the BBC's coverage.

My point was it would be nice if they could have a session or a weekend where there aren't niggly technical problems.

Every session this year on 5live has been out of sync, by the way. You expect me not to mention that?

Don't really notice it being out-of-sync (guess I would if the camera was pointing on a presenter and their lips weren't in time with the vocals), but what I did notice in FP2 was what appeared to be a producer talking over the top of Crofty and Davidson for a few minutes.

Nothing major, but was rather chortlesome.

My my I've got a problem then. F1 and football plus an airshow AND a BBQ. Methinks I'll deffo be catching the highlights frown.gif

There's football and tennis on, your hardly going to get replays of a practice session.

I haven't actually checked though

No need, as they're not on there.

Highlights of both practice sessions are in their usual place though. Called by a gentleman who doesn't sound like a manic depressive this week.

Well that was okay - up until the final section, which sounded a bit duff to be honest.

Fleetwood Mac FTW! Or whatever it is kids say these days.

Yes it's on the BBC website, just not on Freeview as it clashes with the Moto2/125cc (whatever) races from Assen.

And on satellite, I'm assuming, Sky/Freesat.

[edit] yes it is on sat

Tell me I'm not the only one who can't get the live feed on the BBC website to 'pop out'?

This is the first time I've had to watch any F1 action on the BBC website. Is it normally this bad? It's a jittery mess, isn't it? The frame rate is shockingly bad.

It does tend to lag and show that 'coming up' screen! And then it tries to catch up with the coverage by cutting off the delayed audio. Is it just my internet connection or the BBC?

Was also wondering why is it that FP3 (with its video feed) isn't available on the iPlayer?

Also just realised that there'll be no qualifying on 5Live, even online! Only the last 10 minutes on 5 Live. A busy sporting weekend indeed! Would Bernie have a problem with the whole race being shown on BBC Two on Sunday?

It doesn't normally do what it was doing with the lagging and then trying to catch up - usually it ends up joining the feed 5-10 minutes late but is fine once they get the player to actually work.

Today it was absolutely shocking and seemed to be getting worse as it went on with that random 'Live Coverage' screen.

Appeared to sort itself out once I used Internet Explorer rather than Google Chrome. Most peculiar.

Still, least I can watch qualifying on a proper television in a minute. Rejoice!

Interesting, because I was using Google Chrome too. I may try IE for quali then.

EDIT: The sound on the internet feed is being really crackly for me. Anyone else getting this, or are my headphones just effed?

EDIT 2: ARGH, the internet feed is doing that catching up thing again. I'm going to TV Catch Up...is it BBC2 today?

has the bbc downgraded the quality of the live streams massively? i keep getting crackly audio whenever anyone speaks and the picture is nowhere near as good as it was for the first few races.

I wonder if the servers/service is just getting overloaded. We have F1, WC, Wimbledon all at the same time.

Its probably a mixture of both. They might have downgraded the quality to cope with all the live events they are streaming at the moment.

I dont supose anyone knows the name of the song played when They show you what is on the f1 website. Was used just now on the build up show and was also used last week.
MrGBrown
Yeah it is very crackly and no where near as high quality as in Canada, I have swapped to tvcatchup.co.uk. Again this is a legal feed for the UK only smile.gif
Pingu Pi
1 annoying thing, they seem to leave driver interviews till the sunday even though they are shot before Qualy, this makes very little sense since the mood of the weekend is largely set after qualy in respects to the prospect for the weekend. They should show them during the Pre-Qualy show

So no Five Live for qualifying?

Please tell me Legard didn't just liken Valencia to Monaco because of the "long fast straights". Oh my good lord.

No option to listen to them on the website. Did they mention this morning that they weren't going to be on air?

I tried TV Catch Up but its quite far behind. And I've had buffering issues on that in the past too.

It wouldn't surprise me if they've downgraded it a bit. They served over 800,000 simultaneous live streams for the last England game so a 20-30% downgrade in bit rate would save them a whole lot of bandwidth. I've noticed the BBC streaming video in general has been a bit slower and less responsive during the world cup even when no game is currently on.

Legard: "Here comes Hulkenberg! What can he do?"
Martin Brundle: "It's an out lap..."
FonzCam
Apparently Kubica's lap that moves him from P9 to P6 and .4 faster then his teammate is 'Not good enough'

Victor_RO
I can count at least 6 occasions in the last 2-3 minutes of quali where I could hear Martin trying to get a word in and getting blocked by Legard's babbling.
nicktendo
That was a horrific performance from Legard. Easily his worst of the season. Cut over Brundle constantly, got way too many 'facts' wrong and generally talked bollocks for the whole session. sad.gif

I just did a quick rewind and there were two tunes used when they talked about the website.

First one with the strings is The Recluse by Plan B http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5ZTKIXiB70
Second tune is Frisky by Tinie Tempah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6-KdTIi_Ek

Anyone else notice the lack of a desk in the press conference? I thought it might be a Canada only thing last race. First time you've been able to see the McLaren press conference jacket so clearly (you could easily see Lewis' race suit which is normally off camera behind the desk)

Well not good enough for pole.
Legard wants a chance to use his "Pol on pole" catchphrase.

The standard of Legards commentary is appalling. He hasn't improved at all since Australia 2009
KateLM
Even by his standards, Legard was appalling today.

I spent most of the session watching the live timing thanks to the glitchy feed - though that was going a bit haywire as usual too, as apparently Petrov did 80 seconds in Sector 1 in Q3 - especially impressive when the session had only been going for 30 seconds.

Luckily I'm going home next week so I'll have a relatively trouble free viewing of Silverstone on the television.

I did wonder about what they would pick as a classic moment today - my bet was on Ferrari pitlane shenanigans or Badoer lols - but the most exciting thing they could come up with in two years of racing was Barrichello doing a dance...says it all really.
OwenC93
Ugh, when Legard said Lewis was a tenth down on Jenson when he was 3 tenths up, and 1 tenth behind Vettel instead. Was he not watching the timing screens or the feed until that little yellow box comes up with the difference in. No matter who it was against.

(I probably got the names wrong, but I'll find the part on Iplayer when it comes up)
Kooper
Why couldn't Brundle sneak some ether into the booth (or a sledgehammer :-)

Crofty and Ant keep getting mixed up with the green and yellow boxes too, they don't seem to understand that the time differences shown are compared only to the fastest lap that has already been set, not to someone who might be in the process of setting the fastest lap.

So were they on air for quali or not in the end? Truth be told they were getting on my nerves a bit this morning so I was originally planning to stick to the main feed...I might have changed my mind after 10 minutes though considering Legard's form!

Did anyone else think Jake was uncharacteristically bad today? He seemed to be trying to stretch everything into a pun about tomorrow's football match between England and Germany. I'd much prefer if they stuck to talking about F1, because today it just seemed too forced or something. We're all aware when the match is on, and don't need constant reminding. If we wanted to be watching the football, we wouldn't be watching the F1 to be reminded about the football, would we?

Yeah, I agree.

Jake's sport of choice is football, so he was probably thinking too much about it.
hansmann
Let's just say I do not understand how anyone can defend Legard any longer.
His qualy commentary today was beyond unbearable.

And don't tell me to listen to 5live instead - I don't have that option, and judging by the FP coverage, it's even worse than the Leg .

Somebody at the Beeb knows their music!

I'm embarrassed to ask but.... what is the name of the classic rock tune that they used at the very end of the show today. Its also the intro tune for the Midweek Motorsports podcost over at Radio LeMans http://rlm.0157.org/mwm.php . The riff is so damn familiar but I cant remember the rest of the song.
