Can anyone help me here? Pedro Chaves won the championship in 1990, and Paul Warwick posthumously won the championship in 1991. But can anyone tell me the individual race winners for those two seasons?

To kick off, for the Oulton Gold Cup round, Richard Dean won in 1990, and Paul Warwick posthumously won the 1991 round after the race was red-flagged due to his fatal accident.

Warwick won the first five 1991 races. Then
Dale Coyne scored two wins at Snetteton and

Good stuff, Felix. Now there's instant nostalgia for you... Incidentally, where the smillies on Donington a slip-up or a thumbs up for that fine venue?

There are some names there that ring bells. Of course Rydell and Menu went on to touring car fame in the BTCC. Phil Andrews (sponsored by Cadbury's chocolate, I recall) has just reappeared racing a Ford Focus in UK National Saloons. Richard Dean is a real nearly man - he looked like the next big (British) thing for a while, but it came to naught. Now also in National Saloons.

Anyone know what Pedro Chaves is doing now - he seemed quite a classy driver. Then there is that headbanger Marco Greco - a real Brambilla type throwback - where is he now?

And we had one of those increasingly rare pseudonyms "Gimax Junior" - who was he and what is he doing now?

Finally, I note there was a David Button in the results - any relative to young Jenson, the new British tabloid hero??

Pedro Chaves now races with a Toyota Corolla WRC in the Portuguese Rally Championship, or at least takes part in selected round, and gets some reasonable results. Antonio Tamburini was last seen doing Italian Superturismo. Chris Hodgetts raced in the BTCC, but now runs his son in a UK Karting championship. David Hunt was James's brother, and now owns the rights to Team Lotus. Julian Westwood is now a British club driver (can't remember what championship - could be MGF's). Eugene O'Brien and Tim Harvey both raced in the BTCC. Tim did Porsche Supercup racing last year, and O'Brien did Saloon car racing.

Right, 1991 drivers...

Frederik Ekblom has raced in American IRL I think. Peter Hardman races GTs/Sportscars in various British series. Luis di Palma continued in British F3000/F2 for a while, but now seems to have dropped out of racing.

Can't remember what any of the others are now doing!

Frederik Ekblom was in CART in 1996, where he subbed for the injured Scott Goodyear at the Walker team. I and am not at all sure about this, but I think he is racing in the Sweedish Touring Car Championships, perhaps for BMW?

Rickard Rydell - long time Volvo, now Ford touring car driver, had a purple patch in 1998, winning the BTCC, then with Jim Richards won one of the closest endurance races in history at the 1998 Bathurst 1000 in the Volvo S40, beating home the Nissan Primera of Matt Neal and Jim's son Steven Richards. The two cars had never been separated by more than 15 seconds for six and a half hours, including pit stops. The gap was under 5 seconds for 90% of the race. Rydell also claimed the top ten runoff with a simply awesome lap. Sunday morning the talk trackside was where were you during 'that' lap. Now runs a factory Ford Mondeo in the BTCC.

Pedro Chaves actually made it to Formula One in 1991 as the last driver to ever run a Coloni. His GP career ended with Coloni.

Alain Menu similary reached the British Touring Car Championship, a year earlier than Rydell in 1993, as number #2 driver in the new Renault team. From the following year he was regularly a front runner in the Laguna, and took the BTCC crown for Williams-Renault in 1997. His Bathurst attack that year ended when trying to push the Renault too far too hard. Menu and Jason Plato later lost laps after destroying his brakes before finally retiring after damaging the diff over a kerb over the top of the mountain trying to hard to make of lost time on the Audis and BMWs. The Audis and BMWs were to have their own final laps dramatics. When Renault pulled out in 1998 Menu joined Ford where he is now Rydell's team mate.

Rohan Onslow returned to Australia, unable to break into F3000 despite having displayed the talent needed to win two Australian Drivers Championships. He became a sought after enduro co-driver for a couple of season, peaking in a win in the 1991 Sandown 500 ins a Nissan GT-R with Mark Gibbs, and following that up with a third at the Bathurst 1000. After 1992, when he did some Formula Holden races, he disappeared from the local scene.

Eugene O'Brien spent two years in the British Touring Car series in 1993 and 1994 racing in the factory Peugeot team. A lack of results saw him replaced for 1995 with Simon Harrison who in turn would be sacked for the same reason.

Frederick Ekblom has now been racing for several years in the Swedish Touring Car Championship for BMW mostly. Ekblom almost switched to the BTCC in 1998, having competed against Greg Murphy, and others before losing the Renault seat to Jean-Christophe Boullion.

Well, that list was the product of one of those moments when, in permanent alert -because you are aware that my son is about to come any moment now- you cannot stand the pressure and decide that the only thing you can do, apart from waiting, is typing stats !

It reminds me of that night in early January 1997 when, really nervous about the prospect of my wedding, I spent the night with pen and paper preparing those seemingly eternal Cooper and Maserati drivers lists that we later used in 6th Gear ! That, as it is now, is my way to overcome nerves. Yes, I know it might be the sign of a damaged brain, but there's not a lot I can do about it ! :-)

In this late case, I had the job quite simpler, as the scanner and the Autocourses made the majority of the job. Then just a bit of editing (Ralts becoming Raits and some other minor things, that I am not 100% sure I detected) and you have a friend smiling !

That is, btw, what I intend to do very soon.

PS : BRG, no, I have not the foggiest idea of how and why the Donington Ds became those smilies. Actually, I wish I knew how to post those funny faces, but I don' t!
After I saw the result, I was tempted to excuse myself for it, because it seemed like nonsense. But if you find them relevant or indicative, excellent ! I think the texts always belong to the readers, that will give them whatever meaning they want, and not to the authors, that are normally intending to avoid that.

Rohan Macarthur-Onslow, son of Dick Onslow... these days only barely remembered for his duties at Warwick Farm, waving flags etc...
And involved in the running of the annual New England GP, which stands for 'Grand Parade' - an opportunity for those with Historic cars to blast around the streets of a town on the tablelands and get drunk in a more or less orderly fashion...
Here you will see the only racing Morris Oxford in the world, as well as the odd classic Australian Specials, the beautiful little Gazelle alongside the Day Special (Bugatti 39 with Ford V8 and pre-selector gearbox, much polished alloy, red paint and chrome, with red highlighting on the Edelbrock heads) and the Cooper MG.
Was great at Guyra, merely very good at Uralla.

Greco was a bike racer of some repute before turning to British F3 with Madgwick in 87. He flirted with an Osella and a Eurobrun drive in 89/90.

I'm sorry, did you say 'some repute', or 'ill repute'? The latter is more the way I remember him from his 'cycling days!

"Rock ape" was more fitting for Greco in his F3000 days.........
