NYTimes Brad Spurgeon announces that Grand Prix Guide is now online.

The problem is they got it wrong with their stats. They list in Bahrain results Sauber's engine as Cosworth. What a lack of professionalism.

Spurgeon's presentation seems to show he didn't check the quality of the stats...

Grand Prix Guide
By BRAD SPURGEON

One of the greatest bits of news to come out of the weekend in Bahrain was that fans finally have access to the most authoritative and certainly the best guide to Formula One statistics online.

For some 30 years or so the Swiss journalist, Jacques Deschenaux has been putting together a guidebook called the Grand Prix Guide. It is every F1 journalist’s bible. It is red, it has been sponsored by Marlboro over the years, although I’m not entirely sure what the status of that deal is at the moment, except that all journalists flock to the Ferrari team at the first race in order to get a copy of the guide.

Deschenaux has been late in coming online with it, but now that the Grand Prix Guide is online you no longer have to be a journalist or have a good connection to get free access to this amazing database. Now you can just go to the Grand Prix Guide site and look up all the stats.

This may sound like an advertisement for the book and database, but I know by looking at the desks of the journalists in the media center at each race that there are few who would not swear by this. And I’m also pushing fans to it here because Deschenaux told me this weekend that he is looking for sponsorship and ads for the web site and that if he doesn’t find any then around next June or July or so, he’ll start requiring a subscription and he’ll close it off of free use.

So I thought I should mention it now so everyone can take a look at the stats, if you find the racing boring….

Sorry M. Spurgeon. But all your quotes in bold would apply to Autosport's Forix. Not to Grand Prix Guide. Get yourself a subscription sir.

Forix for those who are not subscribed: http://forix.autosport.com/

The coolest feature of Forix is the comparison between the accumulated time of the drivers. That's how you can really tell who is fast and consistent. This new forum has no such a feature...

It's a long way short of what you get with forix, forix gives you the classification on every lap, pitstops, tyre strategies, times from all sessions, not to mention a huge amount of info on other racing categories, testing times etc etc

Love these kind of sites! Will keep tabs on Brad's site and see if it improves because it certainly isn't Forix. Re Forix, I just cannot get the site to "auto login" and it's getting frustrating and cant get a repsonse from them. I know some you guys are directly involved. Any clues please PM!

It is not Brad's site. Brad was just reporting (adverstising for) it.

Now I think we all agree Forix is the reference. clap.gif

I think Forix could still improve its coverage of preseason tests archive. A measure of a driver's consistency during preseason would be an interesting addition.

Considering it is free, it is very good. up.gif

Although there are definitely other free ones such as: http://www.statsf1.com/
