I am wondering how many of these cars were actually made?

I know Behra won at Reims with one in 1958 but were there more than just that one?

I understand it was a simple kit that converted an RSK into a central seater and easily reversible.

But I don't know how many existed at any one time. David McKinney's article in the January 1995 Historic Racing doesn't say but suggests there was only the one: in the 1958 German GP he says "The central-seat Porsche was out again too, driven by Barth...". He says that the entry for the 1959 Reims race included "six Porsches of various descriptions" but doesn't elaborate beyond saying that Jo Bonnier had an open-wheeler and Hermann the Behra-Porsche

1995's a long time ago ...
ISTR there were three, though I never found evidence of that number racing with central seating position, even at different times

Porsche built four more 718 RSK's which could be converted into a singleseater. These cars featured mounting points which made it very easy to shift steeringwheel, pedals and seats to the middle. AFAIK the chassisnumbers were #718-007, #718-027, #718-028, #718-030 and #718-033.

718-028 (purchased and raced by Belgian Christian Goethals in 1959) in left hand mode

718-030 (originally sold to Behra)

In 1959 it ran in at least two FII races: Reims (Colin Davis) and Rouen (Gerard Laureau).

Was 030 really sold to Behra, or raced by him for the factory?

According to my information it was directly sold to Jean Behra. He raced the 718-030 himself only in the Trophée d'Auvergne at Clermont Ferrand on 26.07.1959, a week before his death at Avus.

BTW After Behra's fatal accident with a borrowed RSK (chassis 718-016) its owner Gaetano Starrabba received 718-030 as compensation.

Hans, 718-033 looks a different colour in your photos. Any idea who owned it at the time of the photos and what colour?

At that time (somewhere around 2000) it was owned by Warren Eads. The colour was most likely silver, it was shot at the Monterey festival AFAIK.

718-033 is still silver and still owned by Warren Eads, who drove it on the 2008 Colorado Grand; his co-driver was Denver-based restorer Dave DiMaria.

Fair enough. It just didn't look very silvery in those photos.
