A contributor of the Motorsport Memorial website sent a message about a fatality which happened at Oulton Park, in which one Raymond Entwistle was killed. Possibly he drove a Lotus Elite.

No date, no more details.

Any help?

It was during the 750 & Chester Motor Club speed trials held on , August 25th, 1962. On the first lap, Entwistle's Elite touched the Triumph TR4(?) of John Finlay at Bailey Bridge. Both cars locked wheels and speared off the track in opposite directions. Entwistle hit a tree suffering fatal injuries, and Finlay a concrete verge, breaking his arm and suffering other minor injuries.

I remember Ray very well. On another thread I recount what callous little bastards we were, the following week I bought the ZF box from the wreck for £50 to put in another Elite.

The death of a James R Entwistle aged 23 was registered in Chester registration district in the 3rd quarter of 1962.

Would that have been him? I can't spot the death of a Raymond Entwistle.

Another case of someone using their given name perhaps?
James Raymond Entwistle analogous to John Michael (Mike) Hawthorn and Norman Graham Hill
Allan Lupton
Any connection with TVR racer of that time, Tommy Entwistle who seemed to still be around last year at least.
Article about him last year.

None at all Allan, just a Lancashire name. Tommy must be in his 90s now, ex WW2 fighter pilot
