Full Version: The f1 Buffet

Hi guys. I have always been fascinated by the different approaches that different drivers have towards racing. So for a long time, I have been trying to understand these different approaches of the current crop of drivers and compare them with that of the past greats, and thereby come to a better understanding of their driving.

Although I joined the forum only a month ago, I have been itching to discuss this topic with other learned f1 fans for a long time. So I thought of taking this opportunity to discuss this subject here, so that I could get to know your perception on this topic.

My humble perception bought me to the following understanding.

Fernando Alonso
= Cerebral Racing
= Alain Prost / Niki Lauda

Lewis Hamilton
= Impulsive Racing
= Ayrton Senna / Gilles Villenueve

Sebastian Vettel
= Time Attack
= Kimi Raikonen / Jim Clark

Michael Schumacher
= Cerebral Racing + Impulsive Racing
= Fangio (?) / combination of Senna+Prost

Jenson Button
= Cruise and Collect
= Nelson Piquet (snr) / Jackie Stewart

I would sincerely appreciate it if you guys share your views on this topic, so that we could come to a better understanding about our beloved f1 superstars.

Although I have only mentioned the current world champions in this opening post, I would also like to know about your opinion on the driving of the likes of Kubica, Webber, Massa, Rosberg, Kobayashi, Di Resta, etc.

PS: My personal feeling is that the f1 fans of this era are extremely priviledged to be in this position where there is such a variety of talent right in front of our eyes. So I kindly ask my fellow forumers to try and enjoy this 'f1-buffet', without resorting to driver bashing on this thread.

I wouldn't say cruise and collect for Button, he defiantly attacks but his race as a whole as far as management is concerned is more calculated.

I took his smooth and measured style into consideration when I said 'cruise and collect'.

If you do have an alternative suggestion, I would like to hear it from you. smile.gif

haha I gave it; calculated.

For example the opposite would be Hamilton. I think Hamilton would try to overtake any car in front of him even if he has been told it will pit that lap... Button would more likely stay behind and not attack when he knows he'll be in clear air soon enough, saving his tyres.
