Hi Guys, I would guess that none of you will have seen this particular Exactweld built in the late 80's originally by Bob Johnson and Guy Pearson(Exactweld) I think Guy came up with the concept after looking at his original late 70's stainless chassis which took many many man hours to manufacture(lots of cutting, folding and welding).
The geometry is basically the same as the 70's one but with the the ingenious idea of a steel tube sliding into a clamped up casting with the shock running inside the tube and a couple of lightwieght downtubes to support the front of the engine.
When I was riding for Tony Dunnell, he borrowed the drawings from Bob and built a few of his own, they were really only raced in '88 '89 and '90 and I recall we had a few MGP podiums with them.(they handled brilliantly on the island)! We removed the dust sheets from one of them the other Sunday(first time in 21 years) wiped it over and I photographed it !
I think Bob still has his original Rotax engined one.

I cant remember what it weighed GD66 but I do recall Guy saying it was a bit lighter than the stainless version and that believe it or not was lighter than the Silverstone Armstrongs!!
I think if you'd had the casting in Mag and the spine tube in Titanium you couldn't have built a bike much if any lighter.

Paul, I remember it well, Russ Henley sent me the audio tape of the race with Peter Kneale getting very excited when they couldn't separate us at the end of the first lap. Russ scared me on the first lap through Rhencullen, I think I recall him wheelying past the 30 sign and clipping the kerb when the wheel was a bit late in landing, he ripped the sole of his left boot when it came off the footrest, it was a very close shave but fair play to him he still went on to win!!

Its a guy I also used to spanner for many years ago, a very good rider, he went on to win a couple of 250 classic MGP's in later years, i'll leave it open for a while and see if anyone gets it
