Cheers Paul,
I think there will be, out of the 205 mysteries (Indy & non-Indy) that remain, 30-50 that may never be solved, but we can but try.
It's a good point, actually - I think it is something that is happening now a bit more, but Overton Snell's life & passing seemed to somewhat unnoticed. Admitted he was not a front-rank driver in any sense, but he was part of an era that has now gone forever... thankfully they made the most of George Connor & Duke Nalon.
Tower, though, I don't know they really exploited that. I suppose Harroun's memories were used extensively, but Tower outlived Harroun by some way after all. I was surprised, when changing Tower's info, that being the last 1911 survivor AND a WWI war hero meant information on him was/is so thin on the ground....

Thanks Mr Jenkins,
In regards to Mr Tower being a WW1 vet by the time of his passing in 1985 there were still thousands of WW1 vets still around, the fact he was one really didnt gather much attention then.It wasnt til the year 2000 that a group on wikipedia started tracking the surviving WW1 vets with greater detail. ( as if today Dec 24th 2009 they have 3 documented ones still alive with one or two possibles being investigated )
It's just the fact Mr Tower was the last survinig starter from 1911 and didnt get much press back in 1985 that was the surprise. You would have thought when the speedway set up the old timer's club originally thay woulds have made a sincere effort to locate who was still living that may have had a connection to the speedway back then.{BTW as an aside when was the old timer's club started?)
Paul
