..can anyone tell me if the British museum would have copies of motor races from the 60's covered by the BBC or Independent Television at the time

..I know British Pathe News may have some kind of visual record of the sixties but i am interested in the live coverage of races we used to see.. remember Raymond Baxter?? John Bolster??

The British Museum certainly won't, you'll need the National Film Archive for that, they have copies of everything from the BBC. They MAY let you have VHS copies (at huge prices), depends on what you want them for for.

Aren't we all??? But as we've said before in other threads, the BBC holds virtually nothing of most of their TV programmes before 1970 (sport even more so!), I should know, as I used to work in the Film and Videotape Library.

...yes, unbelievable.. however where did all the bloody cricket come from (when BBC had coverage) when it used to rain during a test match, they used to come up with film of old tests from god knows when?

  The National Film and Television Archive, which is part of the British Film Institute, is the repository for a lot of the old BBC tapes and kinescopes. Viewings can be arranged, but not copies.
The BBC still owns the rights to its programs. It will not make copies for personal use.

The BBC Shop does sell tapes of some old BBC shows, including some sports events. Its online shop has a motor racing section, but it is empty. You could write to them and suggest that they produce a tape of old motor racing broadcasts, but don't hold your breath while you wait for a reply. I know some people who have written regularly, asking for the Donald Campbell drama Across the Lake, starring Anthony Hopkins. As yet, no video, no reply.

I can also remember coverage of Prescott too; i recall that being very good.
