Hi All!

I´m making ultimate F1 trip next june. Me and my friends are flying to canada to see Montreal Gp. We are planning to drive from montreal to indianapolis in 5 days. So we need a cheap car which will not do "mclaren mp-18´s" in 1500 km. Can anybody help me? We sell the car or dump it in indianapolis.

good luck with your plan

you won't be able to get a rental with any of the major companies unless you bring the car back to Canada - as you can't do a one-way rental from Canada to the US

as for buying and selling one er i think this would take a fair amount of time and be very expensive - plus how are you going to insure it?

I think the kind of car he's thinking about you don't need to worry to much about insurance. I remember being young and picking up junkers for a $100-$150 or so driving them to another city and reselling them. Course this was back in the 70s-80s, regulations, paperwork, all that crap is much worse now.

- unless you have an accident or get stopped by the police?

I didn't mean liability, anyone can get that, assuming you can pay for it. As a matter iof fact with my insurance I have automatic coverage for up to 30 days when I buy a car.

And stopped by the police doesn't mean crap. Twice I've been hit by a**holes with noi insurance, the police nor the judge could care less. The only thing it meant was I had to wait 6 months to get my car fixed while the case went through the courts, they got $25 fines. If you don't have anything to get sued over, insurance is a waste of time and money, its just a business which exceedingly greases the palms of the politicians to insure its profitability.

You can't get licence plates without proof of insurance. It would probably be cheaper to fly to Indy from Montreal than to buy and insure a car. Plus gas (and probably oil, if its a cheap car), from where I am in Kingston, Indy was a 12 hour drive, plus 3 to Montreal! Much cheaper to fly and rent a car in Indy.

To travel cheap is not the goal. To drive and have a adventure to remember at retirement house is the goal..wink.gif

I'm heading to Montreal in June, too. There should be many places that you can get a cheap car if adventure is what you are looking for. Where are you coming from?
