Visited Ebby's grave today. Headstone inscription reads:

AGED 69 YEARS
AND HIS WIFE
EDITH HARRIETT

AGED 82 YEARS
TILL THE DAY BREAKS
AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY

Did Ebby own a music shop in Aldgate? There are a few references on the internet to an A.V. Ebblewhite that ran such a shop at around this time. There is only one A.V. mentioned in the 1871 and 1901 Census. I would be interested in any info regarding Ebby. He was a real hero of the early British motor sport scene.

The grave itself was quite overgrown and the headstone had sunk a fair bit, although it was easily readable. It is easy to find: Go in the front gate of the church, turn immediate right, Ebby's grave is about six or so down on your right (the inscription is facing away from you though, towards the road).

I've finally located the grave of Capt George Eyston in St.Mary's Church, East Hendred, nr Wantage, Oxfordshire. If anyone here lives locally and would care to take a photo, I'd appreciate it.

A friend researching the history of the Eastern front has just returned to the UK. He confirms that many of the German graveyards from this period which had survived the destruction of war were later destroyed by the Soviets. Whilst massive memorials exist to the Red Army, little or nothing remains on many parts of the front to mark the fallen of the other side.

Hasse's death has been recorded by Etzrodt and Snellman as being from "a malicous sickness". A further search suggests that he died from a form of dysentery.

His widow was at Walt's 2006 induction into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame.

The ashes of young speedway star Martyn Piddock were interred at the Kent County Crematorium, Charing. He and five others died in a horrific road accident between Gent and Antwerp, Belgium, when their mini-bus was in collision with two trucks, a petrol tanker and a house.

Thanks to Dick Cole, who looked up and passed along the reports from the Long Beach Press-Telegram, Walt Faulkner was interred in Sunnyside Mausoleum in Long Beach, CA - which is now known as Forest Lawn-Long Beach.

The article mentions him being born in Texas and starting his racing career at San Diego in 1938, moving to Long Beach in 1950.

I have no idea whether he finished school in Texas before moving to San Diego, or whether he finished there. He definitely lived in San Diego for a while, perhaps until 1950.

He commited suicide.

This is a new book I've just been told about, written bu Buzz Rose, and presumably concentrates on American drivers.

PS When I add images here, I always do it the same way every time. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes not. I sound a bit like Eric Morcombe "I am playing the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!".

I think with the passage of time I can mention one of the most moving experiences I had when I organised the "Back to Windsor RSL Speedway" day back in July 2002.
Earlier in 2002 I had made contact with Fred Tulk, who was one of the top speedcar drivers at the speedway back in the mid 1960's. When I told him of the planned event, Fred told me that he wanted to attend, but he was very sick and might not make it.

About a month before the unveiling of the plaque I received a phone call from Fred's wife, who told me that Fred had suffered a major brain haemorrhage and had passed away.
After I passed on my sympathies, she asked me if it would be possible if she could spread her husband's ashes (he was cremated) at the site of the circuit on the day of the unveling of the plaque.

Fred's widow arrived early in the day before a large crowd arrived, and we walked down to the end of the cul-de-sac that is approximately in the middle of where the speedway was located. A couple of his fellow speedcar drivers came down as well. We reached the end of the cul-de-sac, and Fred's widow undid the container that contained her husband's ashes, and spread them on the place where he enjoyed so much success.

It was a very moving moment.

..and I have reached my target. A few kilometers further on along Hüttenweg lies the AVUS race track in the middle of Grunewald Forst.





Entering Waldfriedhof Dahlem. Now comes the hard part. The only thing I have is a code saying "11-4a". Hopefully there will be a map somewhere.





Indeed there was a map on the wall to the left of the gate and what I'm looking for seems to be less than 100 meter away.
I should take the path that leads to the right before the trees ...





..then after a few meters a turn to the left, down the steps, and then left again.




.. and immediately right again. Now, it should be the fifth or sixth one on the left side.




I have entered a different world, a world of thick green vegetation, lots of flowers, peace and a beautiful calmness.
Now, it should be here somewhere.




Bernd and Elly together again after 70 years. The flowers seem to build kind of a wall protecting them from the rest of the world.





Hard to put my feelings into words but It was quite an experience for me and I don't regret I spent one and a half hour on this.

Did you see the Ernst von Delius grave and the Ernst Gunther Burggaller grave in the same cemetery.

I've been without a working computer for the last month, so apologies for this very belated response, but thank you so much, Leif, for this lovely sequence of photos, which had the same effect on me as it did on Rob.

In 1916 georges Boillot was shot down over Verdun and was buried in the military cemetery at Vadelaincourt.
I have searched this cemetery and can find no trace of his grave.
After further investigation I have found that in 1919 the French government offered relatives of deceased servicemen the chance to have them reburied in cemeteries of their choice.
Apparently about 6500 people took up the offer.
Boillot's parents lived in Paris and I suspect that he is buried there.
Does anybody have any info.

Fraser Nash driver Alfred Fane Peers Fane (shortened to Fane Fane, or just Fane) is buried in the small private churchyard at Hedsor Priory.
Fane and his wife lived at the Priory and after his death flying a Spitfire on July 18, 1942, his wife Evelyn had a stone seat errected in the
corner of the field adjoining the graveyard, although it has subsequently been removed. The headstone is regularly tended by Larry Lambourne.

A new memorial page - Walter Bäumer. Yes, I know Lubeck is incorrect but FaG doesn't have Bünde listed in their list of German cities. I have contacted them.

Having visited the cemetery I now find this information is incorrect.
This grave is for a Felice Nazzaro but he lived from 1906 to 1966.
Nazzaro the racing driver lived from 1881 to 1940.
