Cutaway by Sergio Baratto from Autocollezioni Magazine #33 February 2006. A very expensive magazine here in Brasil.

up.gif Thanks for that !
I think I saw that in an issue of Autosprint as an A1 foldout poster. Because of the size it had become very pixelated, so it didn't come
over as a very pleasant work.

Here is a BT45 from an issue of Motor Oct 15 1977. It accompanied an article on BT45 by Mike Doodson, but isn't signed or credited in the story heading.
I believe it may be a Brian Hatton.

Marc, I remember seeing that cutaway when the car was current, and although I can't remember who the illustrator was it is definitely not Brian Hatton. BH changed his style quite frequently, I seem to remember, certainly later on, but I have never seen him work in this style. I think it had an Italian name under it...

Motor magazine published a series of cutaways years ago under the title "Circuit Classics".
I have five of them.
Nr.2 1936/1937 Auto Union Type C by Terry Collins

Nr.3 Alfa Romeo 158/159 by Lawrence Watts

Nr.4 Maserati 250 F by Tony Matthews '81

Nr.6 1959 Cooper Climax by Tony Matthews '81
Nr.8 Mercedes W196 by Tony Matthews '82

So, only because Tony dated his cutaways do we have an indication when Motor published this series.

Have any of you kept copies of this series ? Do you know which cars the missing numbers were about?

Motor was a large magazine in those days A4+, so these cutaways (centrespreads) will be difficult to scan
properly, but I'll do my best.

Nr.6 1959 Cooper Climax by Tony Matthews '81

Does anyone have the Cooper-Climax?

Quoting myself "I have five of them ".............................

The Cooper will be posted once the staple holes and the fold creases have been touched up.

Now does anyone have Nr 1, 5 and 7 of the series, and any others if there were more than 8 ?

Does anybody have a cutaway of either the Williams FW07D or the Williams FW08B ?(the six wheeled Williams cars.)

Brian re M16C. Is it possible to send me a scan of that? I have not seen it before. I will reciprocate with a photo of a 1:1 scale model of the M16B.

Also can someone tell me where to find that M16B posted a while back? Regards, Aaron

Beat you to it Marc, sorry! This was based on a James Allington cutaway, as I realised there was no way I could complete what 'Motor' had asked me to do and go on the family holiday! I paid him five times for the use of his artwork what he had originaly been paid to do it, much to his amazement. That is a crap sentence. Never mind, eh? I saw a Cooper somewhere, it might have been at Donington, and added a few details, changed the 'nibbled' cuts that were a JAA hallmark, and painted it in a very short time, finishing it just before loading the family wagon and heading off for a well-earned rest.

Still can't find a trannie of the W196, quite a few 5"x4" trannies have disappeared, hope they turn up!

My wife got incredibly pis.. sorry, fed up when I delivered work on the way to the airport. It used to happen quite a lot smile.gif

Now I'm mostly computer based it's not so bad as I can send it by ftp. Mind you the last time I went on holiday, I'd shut down and hidden the computer in the loft only to get a phone call that the last artwork sent was corrupt. I had to retrieve said computer and resend new artwork while the luggage was being loaded in the taxi.

For some reason I wasn't very popular rolleyes.gif

Nobody knows what we've been through, Alan! I remember when Jim Allington and his then agent David Phipps relied on the time difference between London and - I think New York, I'm not certain, but USA - when arranging for delivery of a cutaway for magazine use, on a regular basis. I always worked to the deadlines given to me by commissioning editors or agencies even after I found that they were covering their backs by reducing the actual time available in case I screwed up. I took it as a challenge, but the Cooper was one that gave me a real headache on timing.

Cool Cooper, Tony. I have not seen this. One thing I have always enjoyed about your renderings is the incredible accuracy of the Dunlop tire tread detail. Did you do the dark recessed part of the tread with a Rapidograph or was it with a brush?

Your illustration of the GA V-6 engine is brilliant Tony, Cosworth made a great engine out of one that was not highly regarded (IIRC Essex V-6)? Just as the Capris were taking it to BMW again, the fuel crisis and it became an F5000 engine.

...and it became an F5000 engine.

I read something like that before and thought it was a missprint. I don't understand why somebody would put a 3.4 V6 into a F5000 car. Normally you get as close to the maximum engine capacity as possible. Don't you?

I remember being surprised to hear that it was going to be used in F5000, but I supose it was lighter than a bigger V8 - although I know the American engines are not heavyweights - and very powerful, so I think it was just down to a better power:weight ratio, and a nimbler car.

Another great Ford/Cosworth effort!

It may also have been because they were available and cheap, esp for a known power delivery. ISTR ads in Autosport in period for GAAs in crates for quite a while with one of the usual dealers.

I hope you will all forgive the intrusion of a long term lurker. My, possibly faulty, memory recalls that the Essex Ford V6 was allowed into the European F5000 series under a rule that allowed the use of engines homologated for FIA Group 2 touring car racing series such as the European Touring Car Championship. This was presumably in the belief that the V6's four valves per cylinder, higher revs and lighter weight would make up for its 1600cc displacement deficit relative to the Chevy V8s.

Marvellous thread....

Brush, Tom, and I mean to give a full and detailed description of my method as soon as I have time to collect and collate the relevant info. for he who may be remotely interested. Bear with me. By that I do not mean that I am in the company of a Brown, Grizzly, Kodiak or Spectacled member of the family Ursidae, just that I'm a little busy replacing various windows and doors.

Believe it or not !!!! Another Sharknose !!!

The story behind it.
I recently managed to retrieve the library I had left in France a few years ago, and started a quick rummage through it.
Years ago, late 90's the French arm of De Agostini publications, came out with a bi-weekly on Ferrari. called “Ferrari la Passion”
The magazine covered everything that had a beans worth to do with Ferrari.
Of course I had to have them, so arranged with a local newsagent in my place of work to keep the issues as they came and I would pick them up every once a month I was over.
Road Cars / Race cars / Driver biographies / Famous Races / Model Ferraris / stuff Technical / fashion things Ferrari-ish / very famous owners…you name it, it was covered.
The run lasted a good two years, so a total of 50 odd issues A4 size 24 page magazine and a 10 page
A3 size poster/photo supplement.
Numerous cutaways, good, very good, and some downright nearly passable to a fan. Side views and some paintings
The only credits given to photographers and artists is in the colofon on the front inside cover page .
Under drawing credits, the following names are listed:
Silivana Ghioni, Alberto Ipsilanti, Jimmy Rubin and Marco Vinelli.
So one of them is the artist of the above rendering.
I will also scan the D50, and as Tony Matthews posted a cutaway of the Benetton wind-tunnel, I'll scan the Ferrari one as well.

Some days ago I found some magazine-photos of my teenager time.
In those years I was a kind of marabunta-ant, I was cut out all the pics that I was finding in the magazines and I was stick or glue them in the walls of my room (from 1976 until 1980)
Everything ended when dad, mom, sister and me move to another house... The walls of my room remained completely ruined and my parents prohibited me to continue with my "decorative practices"...
Well, between the old papers that survived of those years I found a Lotus 80 cutaway. It was very damaged by the years and the glue... hard work with the Photoshop to turn the original into something presentable.
Sorry, I don't know in what magazine was published...

If you give us an idea where you are from, where you may have bought the magazine, some of us
