Not really cutaways in the sense of what we have been posting up to now, but very interesting none the less.
From a series ( of 12, I believe) of articles by Cyril Posthumus ...drawings by Brian Hatton in Motor magazine during 1975,
all collected by a young Dutchie living in Thailand.
The series was titled "The non-Conformists".
Quattroruote published a few takes from this series as well.

Heres a novelty. The Cosworth DFY engine drawn by a woman!!!! Diana Stevens. Now I'm not sexist but in my professional career as an illustrator I have only ever come across one woman illustrator and she switched to admin. Does anyone know of work by any other women illustrators?

Just looking at that one the other day and wondering the same.
I have posed the question before about the Dagrada F Jr cutaway signed Emily, until Anders pointed out it could be a surname.

That looks very pale and washed-out, Marc, typical of Racecar Engineering, it used to drive me to distraction, especially as Racer magazine reproduced them so well. My protests fell on deaf ears, however, and although I made the originals more and more contrasty it made no difference, totally pissed me off.

The colour scheme was based on the information I was given by Valvoline - and you have to remember, I never saw these cars in their paint, I only saw the carbon versions before they were shipped to the US of A - and turned out to be wrong. I was so concerned about this that as soon as I saw a photograph of the correct scheme and shade of blue I contacted Valvoline and offered to re-do the bodywork free, but the response was 'No, don't bother, we don't care.' How odd, I thought.

This was another Champ Car cutaway that was done in two versions, I'll see if I can root out the other one and post it.

You are a gentleman and a scholar Marc. I have found the Super Speedway version, but the HP software has decided to stop and have a cup of tea halfway through the scanning process, so God knows when I can finish it and post it. I get so many free downloads from HP promising improved performance of my scanner and printer, and all I get is frustration and delay - usually requiring uninstalling and reinstalling the damn things.

No Paulo, I stopped illustrating in 2003, the last F1 car I drew was the Ferrari F2000, car, engine and gearbox. There was no demand for cutaways and I have to earn money!

Let's combine the subjects Alfa Romeo and Indy. Did anybody do the March Alfa Romeo 89?

Many thanks for that link, Ibsen.

I'm completely enthralled with this car. Pity it never got a chance to show its stuff.

Well no luck with the March Alfa, I still haven't sorted my books out. However, I stumbled across this image of yours truly standing next to the Lola T94 in the CART build area at Lola, Huntingdon. I am obviously desperately trying to think of anything I haven't photographed...

This must be a Phase I or Phase II engine. Alfa also had a 40 valve version, the Phase III that was debuted after Indy 1990.

I know that one Champ Car team 'lent' an Ilmor-Chevrolet 265A to Alfa Romeo, and as a result the Alfa engine suddenly appeared with an identical plenum chamber to the Ilmor. It also meant that Ilmor completely revised their relationship with their customer teams, I think buying back all the engines and thereafter only leasing them. Paul Morgan was spitting feathers when I asked him about it.

Loved looking at all the illustrations on this thread, especially Tonys great work.

Poor by comparison and not a cutaway but something I did in illustrator...

It has a very nice feel about it - if one can use 'feel' in this context - and the reflections and shadows give it depth and a bit of sparkle, something I tried to achieve with a paintbrush, but didn't often manage to my satisfaction.

Thanks! glad you like it. Yes it seems slightly cartoony for a technical illustration. Quite enjoyable to do it like this though without having to get all the measurements spot on...

I am doing a piece on the CART Alfa's on 8W/Forix right now and I know about that story and what it eventually ended up with.....
It was Pat Patrick who did that and man he had to pay dearly for that later on....
Looking on wat Alfa achieved with their engines, Pat should have saved him the problems. I don't know what the italians did with that engine but the opportunity was wasted on them

But I've seen someone else going beserk about an CART Alfa Romeo related matter: scale models of the cars....
Watch 8W for the details on that Story....

Meanwhile, I wished I could include that cutaway drawing of the Alfa V8 on the website that I work upon.....
