I must say that I like Vic Berris' work, it always looks right, and accurate - so if you were rebuilding the car you could rely on the cutaway for info.

These are the only Porsche 908-3 I have.

Nice graphics. Not a lot of detail, but perhaps Giorgio Alisi (neat signature!) didn't have much to work with. The detail stuff on page 2 is great - I did a couple of renderings on coloured paper, it makes a change, and you can use white very effectively as a high-light.

Grazzie mille , merci beaucoup , thanks a lot IBSEN.
It's not just a "cutaway" that you offered tp my eyes , but like said Tony , it's a very special one due to the graphical treatment of the subject.
Colored paper (or monochrome backward) is more often used for artistical rendering , and like this technique very much. ( Miles away from the cutaway scene , Guy Allen is one of my favorite in this category

)
I like how mr Alisi focused on the main thing about the 908/3 in the 1st image.... : the tube frame , a piece of art itself. One among other 908s chassis , plus the 906s , 910s , 917s.

Having an interest, don't ask, in horizontal springing, as a non-engineer I am fascinated by the rear spring layout of the 956. Apart from having shorter rods in the dampers and a much more disciplined form in the link assembly starting from higher pickup points, it is almost a mirror of the Bugatti T251 of legend IIRC, (I know that had solid axle). I think most Group 'C' type cars had that rear spring layout, Roger, as otherwise they compromised the tunnels.

Tony, perhaps I dissemble a little too much. I understand more than I admit, certainly the packaging if not all of the geometry and loadings etc. Inter alia I studied closely the similar layout on the DTM Merc at the FoS a couple of years ago . I just "like" the sad old T251 as a lost cause, someone has to. BTW I was told by someone who should know these things at the Bugatti Trust, that much of Colombo's design was modified/butchered by son-of-Bugatti wanting to stamp his authority, coupled with money drying up, which was the reason why Colombo left with the car unfinished. Original drawings are reputed to exist. Sadly I have never seen a good photo of the original front suspension of the T251, with de Dion and cross-linked dampers
RL
As Roger talks about T251, i would know if one of you have a cutaway of this car ... i think it is impossible .
if i am wrong i would be as surprised as happy ...

Sorry Roger, I wasn't trying to lecture, but I wasn't sure if you knew that it was common practice at that time. I'm sure you understand more than I do.
A cutaway of F189, from a Tamiya top box again;
I concede these drawings are poor in details, but what a style, isn't it ?
(to say nothing of the purity of f189's lines)

(probably realized by Gavin Mcleod ?)

A bit of an odd view as it doesn't really show very much.
Nicely done though. Very narrow ellipses on the wheels etc. which aren't always easy to make look realistic.

Ahh, Espada... One of my all time favourites. I still can't believe how they've maganed to put that monster engine under such incredible low bonnet, without putting no bump on it whatsoever. And the shape is just timeless. Too bad that Lambo doesn't do fourseaters anymore.

No need to apologise, elno, none of us knows everything, not even me, and as you know I am beautiful, very impressive, modest and knowledgeable.
By the way, the Lotus Esprit Turbo was drawn by Andrew Dibben, who worked for Lotus Cars under Tony Divey and then took over after he left. I spoke to him a couple of days ago, but he is not particularly interested in cutaways now. Does some nice landscapes though...

Allez ! tous est possible.
Edit to solve a diacritic problem, couldn't find the ancillary glyph
the caption was "Marlboro document"
The translation and the adaptation of the original edition (i.e., english one)
was realized by the journalist Gerard Crombac who was a absolute fan of English teams (notably lotus and mc laren)
It is funny to note that, on the original (english) cover, there was a renault f1 car, and
I wonder myself if he didn't like it at all and replace it by the 85 championship winner mclaren...
(actually, i have to admit that the choice of the cover's drawing depends more probably on the publication year, 1982 for the original one and 1986 for the french edition)
