The above is a drawing of Vic Elfords 908/2, 2nd place Brands Hatch 6 hours, 1969? But it looks as though the rear wing/flap has been slightly modified. I wonder if this drawing was initially colour? It's interesting, he cut away just before he would have got to the Shell logo. Very nice and if anyone is going to be up to this ultra complicated 'restoration' job then it would have to be the 'Mac'.

I had a quick go at fixing it. I did the easy bits and then decided to stop as I'd be making the rest up. Still, it's a bit better...

What you call a W165 is in fact the W154 in its 1939 form.

I add the W125 and W154-1939 are ,if not by Cresswell, directly inspired by his work published in The Grand Prix Car vol1.

I have been busy enjoying things here lately, and have slipped by for a while without returning the favor. Will put a few up to celebrate the weekend.
I will start with the sinuous Maserati 300 S, as published in Sports Car Illustrated, July, 1957. Another Clarence LaTourette effort.

That is very nice! Does anybody know anything about those curious extrusions on the side of the chassis? Please tell me they are a thing more exotic than a mere crash structure.

I don't think side impact crash structures were much of a design consideration in those days.
I would hazard a guess, seeing that there is some smaller tubing for body support along the sides, that these outrigged box sections could have acted as jacking points.

Ah, very interesting up.gif

Your right, the era I suppose rules out politically correct machinations such as 'side-impact'. But Jacking points makes sense. Initially I thought perhaps something structural to do with rigidity.
