Going to Monza GP this year, sitting in section 6C......want to stay in Milan but......

Does anyone have a suggestion where to stay in Milan? Anyone have a good suggestion for a hotel?

I'm going with my husband and 25 yr. old son. Of course we are going for the race but also would like to have some nightlife. Any suggestions on which section of town would be best for that, bars, clubs, etc.?

Also I've been to a few GP's and there are always events happening prior to the race. Is there a section of town that hosts events like that? Is there some where I can get an itinerary for such happenings?

I'm trying to stay in the area where it's close to the train, nightlife and possibly race events, if that is at all possible.....

Any and all info and travel tips would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time in Milan.

Thank you

Looking to go this year for the first time, so I can't help much except to bump the thread, and to say that a BB search turned up a few things, notably this thread: http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php...highlight=monza

Still not much on where to stay though - Monza vets where are you?

Hi, I was born and lived in Milan for over 45 years, so my view of the city is not the same that tourist have.

For these requirements, your best pick would be a hotel in the city centre . All those listed in this link are in the centre. A very nice part of the city is the Navigli area. Lots of restaurants, bars, antics shop, night life. Look in the lists for hotels in via Conca del Naviglio, for example,

or just locate the area in a map centred on this street (for example using

I don't know what events are planned for this year. Usually there is not much going on in Milan itself, probably you would find more activities in Monza, which is not just the name of a track, but a city in its own right, very old, located not far from the park, where the circuit is. It has its identity, and plenty of history, with a cathedral and a famous Middle Age iron crown of the Lombard Queen Teodolinda.
Hotels are very few here, but going to and from Milan is easy by train, bus, subway.

I know that many tourists prefer to stay in places on the lake of Como, whicxh is only a few miles north of the track. September is probably the best month to stay there, but hotels are booked much in advance.

Please, write again for any additional information !

Como is out of the question, thats where all the drivers and teams stay lol.gif

You could stay near Centrale Station which is like 10-15minutes from Monza by train. Depending on your budget, if you take the Accor/Ibis, the rooms are like 99/150euros a night or something. But hey, this is a city; and on the flipside its walking distance to Centrale.

Im sure you could find cheaper if you did a smaller private hotel. I'll ask a few people who did Monza a few times and stayed in Milan. You can get to Navigli or Brera really easily on the tram. But I wouldnt recommend it. Its not Milan, its the nicer area of Milan. Anywhere between Centrale and Duomo you're going to enjoy yourself. Dont go touristy, just enjoy a random slice of how they live. They're Italian, they're more than amusing on their own.

If you do end up at the Ibis near Centrale (or any of the hotels near it), you would be within a short trip of the secondary shopping street (Corso Buenos Aires is more 'regular' shopping and huge, the Prada boutiques and unaffordable stuff is more towards the Duomo) and this mad bar

Random "Aussie Pub" run by Italians who took a vacation in Australia once and figured they needed a bar based on that theme. When I was there in 04 Fosters had a little party there and were giving out tickets to fans and had grid girls and what not. It was big enough that the girl in charge of international sponsorships was hanging out there.
