Hi there guys,

First time post for me today, so here goes:

We are travelling to the Spanish grand prix this year and would like some advice. We are flying into Girona airport just outside barcelona and would like advice from anyone who has flown to here before, Can i ask you all if the trainstation at Girona is at the airport or is it located away from the airport?

Another thing is, does anyone have an idea how much the train tickets are to Montmello, we flying into Girona on the Thursday and flying back Monday?

Has anyone camped at the site before? We have camping tickets at the grand prix and jsut wondered what peoples experiences of these were?

Thnaks for you time,

Mark.

wave.gif Welcome. This forum doesn't get all that much traffic these days, hence lack of replies so far.
There's a train station at the Airport - don't know if it's a direct line to Montmello as we stayed in Barcelona itself. Tickets are dirt cheap by UK standards.
Can't help with camping therefore either, but I'd recommend a cheap Hotel - the circut itself is a fair way from the village (which is pretty dead anyway) and Barcelona rocks!

If you do want to camp though do a search of this forum, there have been a few threads on the Spanish GP, and I'm sure you'll find more info in them. Enjoy!

The campsite at Barcelona is essentially just a field overlooking the track.

The atmosphere is sensational but don;t expect any mod cons. There are toilets and showers put on, but the generator has a tendency to blow up thus leaving you with cold showers and no lighting in the portaloos at night... rolleyes.gif

It's a lot of fun though, and is so close to the track entrance that it makes it all worthwhile.

You'll have a great time.

If you want sleep, try not to camp next to Alonso fans - they will chant "alonso, alonso, alonso, alonso," all bloody night. The Dutch are the best for free beer, campfires and stories, the brits and the germans are amazing for the ingenuity of hooking their campervans up to the generator to power their own spaces (could be why the generator keeps blowing though.)

Enjoy - I'm very jealous

Did barcelona last year and it was pretty awesome.

First thing id say is that if you thin Girona airport is just outside barca, you have been tricked by ryanair propaganda ;) It is about an hour away by coach from the city.

Not sure if you can go direct from airport to montmello, but id you arriving on the thurs it might be worth taking the coach to the city centre (costs 5 euros iirc) and then seeing some of barcelona, its an amaxing place.

Tickets from Barcelona sans (central station) which can be easily gotten too on the tube were only about 5 euros to montmello.

Once you get to montmello which is a lovely little village, you have about a 20 min walk to get to the circuit. The circuit it self was wild last year (fernando mania was like nothing else ive seen).

When leaving, if you leave on the sunday you will wait hours at the train station (montmello is a tiny station). Luckily there is an nice bar with a huge patio which looks right onto the station so its advisable to enjoy a few cold ones and watch the queues at the station go down.

Have a great time, if the weather is anything like last year you will be in for a treat up.gif

First off thanks for the welcome guys.

Garagiste - I don’t think there is a direct line to Montmelo either so I think it will be a trip to Barcelona and then back up a little bit to Montmelo station. I need to find out.

tidytracks - Not too bothered about the campsite simply being a field overlooking the track, the beers will probably help me see things that aren’t there anyway. I’m sure I will enjoy, should be a good time.

AlesiUK - I knew Girona was not just outside Barcelona and knew it was roughly an hour by coach. I have seen bits of information that mention getting line 2 at Girona station to get to Montmelo but on the Renfe website the train from Girona does not go to Montmelo. There will not be much time to see Barcelona unfortunately on this trip, I have been twice before anyway, we are leaving on the Monday so hopefully the queues will be down by then.

Here’s hoping for some good weather.

Can anyone confirm the train information between Girona and Montmelo? Maybe they lay special trains on for the GP weekend?

Might be worth giving the Spanish tourist board an email.

It's a good spot and as otheres have said though pretty rough and ready. My only advice is take care of thieves aspecially pickpockets. I lost a load of stuff there a few years ago (different campsite) including my tickets camera gear used film and money mad.gif . I'd still go back though cool.gif

It's good you don't mind the noise cos with Fernando being WDC that place is going to be an even bigger party than last IMO up.gif Enjoy up.gif
