This is for Allen Brown: This is the Forsgrini Formula A car that was run in New Zealand by Mike Campbell. It had a Ford engine from Ford R&D that had been worked over by Ryan Faulkner. The car was never run with this engine before going to New Zealand. The engine proved very unreliable. It cracked the #8 cylinder several times while the car was in New Zealand. Mike Campbell had won the Formula C championship previously in a Forsgrini.
Harry Swanson bought one of the first Formula A cars. He won a race at Westwood B.C. with it. This was a club type race. Harry Swanson owned more Forsgrini cars than anyone. He was from Auburn, Washington. There were approximately 5 Forsgrini Formula A cars made. They were all made in the Seattle area. The first ones had no wings. The next ones high wings and the last version low mounted rear wings. When Lyle Forsgren went to work for Rupp Industries in the Manfield, Ohio area, he didn't make anymore race cars. He worked on their snowmobiles while at Rupp. Lyle didn't remember the exact numbers given to the different cars in the day. Whatever the entries show is what he was calling them.
Lyle Forsgren his dad and brother Dale. Another Forsgrini being built.

Please pass on our regards to Lyle Forsgren from the Westwood gang. He's in Wisconsin now, right? You can let him know a big Westwood reunion is planned for 2009. I have some photos of his other sports racers if you're interested.

That's Watkins Glen, you can see the Red Kenndall Oil (spelling?) on the side of the building. Also the Blue of the Building is the paint they used on everything at the track including the guardrails.

Inspired by the wonderful pictures Jerry has received from Lyle, I'm writing up the Forsgrini marque on OldRacingCars.com. Could anyone comment on what influences they see in this car, which I believe was Lyle's first Formula A built late 1968.Originally posted by Jerry Entin

That's Jerry Eisert leaning in and talking to Lothar. Lothar drove a Eisert for Marv Webster after this race. He said the car had megaphone type exhast pipes and it was so loud people were holding their ears. Anyone with a picture of Lothar in the Eisert with megaphone exhaust please post it.

This is the Mecom USAC entry for John Surtees at Riverside in 1967. Jim Chapman leaning in doing the adjusting. Surtees finished 20th in the Lola. Rex Mays 300 was won by Dan Gurney.
Alan: Ike Smith is the man to thank. He and Gil Munz were the crew for Chuck Parsons in the day. Ike has been scanning all of the photos Gil Munz took in the day. I have been putting the ones of Chuck Parsons on that site. I thought the forum may be interested in some of these. Lothar had a shop fire in the early 70's and was badly burnt trying to get his and customers cars out of his building. He was firing up a Formula 5000 McLaren by the back door of his shop. When as they say all hell broke loose. He lost all his photos and was badly burnt on the face and arms. An off duty fireman happened to be going by on a dirt bike. He made Lothar get out of the building. Lothar didn't know how badly he was hurt. I have been sending these new discoveries on to Lothar and we had been talking about the old days. I don't think I have seen Lothar in 35 years. When I get back to California I will definetly look him up.

This would be Riverside 27 Nov 1967 when Lothar drove the Eisert Indycar. My web page assumes Lothar drove the 1967 car that weekend but this looks like the 1966 car, which had been Congton's Chev-powered backup car. If I'm right, this car was kept by Eisert and he rebuilt it just before he died in Feb this year.Originally posted by Jerry Entin

Before is in the paddock with the Dana Chevrolet sponsored McLaren #11 which the 1967 Mid Ohio USRRC program listed as a McLaren MK1C.
The after is just after Lother’s crash which was up close for me as I was leaning against the fence which is now flattened except for the rather substantial fence post!
Our main concern once Lother staggered from the car under his own power was the little hibachi grille in the foreground which was lit! I don’t know if the fuel cells were ruptured or not but the grille was too close for comfort.
I proceeded to the paddock after the race and volunteered my services to the Motscenbacher crew. They asked if I would guard their equipment while they went to retrieve the McLaren which I was only too happy to do for them.

Another Can-Am Lola T333CS converted to F5000 spec. The origins of this car are unknown as it never wore a chassis plate and was just known by its SCCA tag number of 33-673. There's a good chance it was Briggs' 1976 F5000 T332C converted by Haas for Can-Am.Originally posted by Eshe

The McRae GM3, also returned from Can-Am spec to F5000 for this series. It had debuted as a F5000 car at Riverside 1976 then become a Can-Am for 1977, achieving little I'm afraid, and then returned to the southern hemisphere for the 1978 Rothmans series as a F5000. Graham won at Sandown in it in Sep 1978. It may, or may not, have been the basis of the 1980 Can-Am McRae GM9, depending on who you ask.Originally posted by Eshe

The business end of Motor Racing has never exactly been a catwalk, but the current fashion for baggy attire suits the build of the average TNFer rather better than the tight short!
