Is the only difference in this Ferrari between the Grand Prix and the International Trophy the fact that the number 10 was in a white roundel in May?

Or are there other subtle things that we plebs don't spot?
Barry Boor
Bill, did you by any chance take any other pictures of the Connew at the Ring in 1972?
Barry Boor
Whatever happened to Benedicto Caldarella?
Barry Boor
I've got a few, adding to the recent theme....

All taken in the Brands paddock in, I think, 1972; but others will know better than I!
Barry Boor
Quite possibly!
Barry Boor
Would Alo's car be this one?

Barry Boor
I didn't realise that Carlos Pace ever wore a blue and red helmet.
Barry Boor
Point taken, Twinny, but there is no sign of an arrow design that I can see on that helmet.
Barry Boor
Bit of a problem with the old images, Tony.
Barry Boor
Don't you just LOVE that picture of the drivers?

Question, what is Phil Hill? whispering to Dan?

Another point of interest - isn't George Wicken a long way up the grid at the Brands Grand Prix circuit opening race in 1960? I was just 100 metres along from the photographer on the approach to Paddock.
Barry Boor
Surely that drivers photo must be an example of early advertising in racing?

It just dawned on me that EVERY driver is wearing the same light blue overalls and are standing/sitting in front of a Dunlop van.

Co-incidence?

A 'when?' would be interesting - we have Baghetti and Anderson in there so I guess at 1964.
Barry Boor
Front row, left to right, Hill - BRM, Ireland - Lotus, Brabham - Cooper and Clark - Lotus (Clark was on pole).

Next row #14 Salvadori - Cooper, Surtees - Lotus and #6 Brooks - Cooper.

Then, #16 Wicken - Cooper, Gurney - Cooper (wearing white stripe on helmet) and #12 Henry Taylor - Cooper. Just visible on Taylor's right is McLaren - Cooper.

Behind them are #18 Bianchi - Cooper, #42 Phil Hill - Ferrari, and you can also see #40 Ginther - Ferrari, far right the nose of Bruce Halford's Cooper (Yeoman Credit) and finally #38 which is David Piper's Lotus 16.
Barry Boor
I THOUGHT that was the Tui.

Barry Boor
Perhaps this one should be connected to the post before last....

Barry Boor
Here are 2 pictures taken about 20 minutes apart on a cold, misty, damp day at Brands Hatch in 1969.

and...

Caption, I suppose, would be 'WHOOPS'.
Barry Boor
Bruno, do you have any photos of Migault at Monaco in 1974?

Well said Rob. smile.gif I'm pleased someone else knows there can be a problem. If you're on slow dialup (and I am) It's VERY difficult to stay interested in a thread when you end up staring at a blank screen for fifteen minutes - and all you can see is 2" of blue sky at the top of some 5000x5000 pixel scan that some thoughtless %&6%$ has posted. down.gif

I've posted some images myself on this thread, but because of HUGE pictures posted in adjacent posts, I cannot even see MY OWN postings! I just ain't got the patience to stare at nothing for 30 minutes..... I know it's difficult to be critical of people who mean well by wanting to share their pics, but I really think the mods should stomp on this pretty hard. 500x500 pixels should be the maximum. If you want to post bigger, then make sure you go the thumbnail route.

Sorry all, that this is a bit of a rant, but I'm really ticked off with not being able to view my own stuff (within a reasonable time). Not everyone is on broadband.

My sympathies are with you, Cargo (and others)
Before I went broadband, I used to regularly have to wait 20min for a series of images to load. Even now huge photos can taker several seconds

I've looked at this thread on two different machines today, and in both Barry Boor's and Twinny's posts, all I get are those annoying little boxes with Xs in the middle. I can see all the other shots posted so far.

Barry Kalb

If it helps...
At home on my Mac I couldn't see Barry's but had no trouble with Twinny's
Here at work they are both OK
(But I don't think I've had any trouble with Barry's in the past)

Ray Bell
I think the idea of this thread is for people to post photos they've taken themselves biggrin.gif
David McKinney
I thought he was too tall for Alan Rees
Maybe Peter Jopp?
David McKinney
To return to the original theme of the thread:

Amon and Mo Nunn at Brands Hatch 1976

(And apologies to anyone hoping for 100 photos in one go)
David McKinney
And this one's especially for David Beard

(Long Beach 1978)
David McKinney
He had it in NZ in January 1978
I think he was clean-shaven when he won at Silverstone
But it was back in place fairly soon after Long Beach
David McKinney
Was Tony Vandervell driving that race in place of his son?

I was going to suggest you read the "sticky" on posting images before putting up any more, but it seems to have been removed frown.gif
David McKinney
Didn't a single Vanwall appear at Goodwood in 1959? This one?
David McKinney
Was he any relation to Allan McCully?
(sorry....)
David McKinney
Yep, LL
(no matter that magazines and programmes thought he used the more usual spelling)
David McKinney
The Peirce-MG (note spelling) raced in '50s GP car events, with date of manufacture declared at, IIRC, 1951. A car of that name was among the most successful of several MG specials raced in South Africa in the mid '50s.
The car in Barry's picture however is a newer one built by Harry Peirce, and did not appear until, I think, 1957. The sliding-pillar front suspension is from a Lancia.

Probably hundreds lol.gif

Nope
Still can't see them - though I can see Twinny's Shopped versions - and the selection you posted ten minutes ago
David McKinney
So can I now smoking.gif
Isn't technology wonderful?
David McKinney
The bloke at the back of the queue on the right looks more like MM
David McKinney
Can anyone identify the bloke standing on the left of the third picture from the bottom in Post 1174?
I'd swear it's former New Zealand champion Angus Hyslop
David McKinney
I'm reluctant to take issue with the man who took the photos, but have to say that although the grid shot is from the 1960 Silver City Trophy, but there's no way the drivers' shot could have been taken in 1960
David McKinney
Someone's sliding doors - could be Cobham?
Chris Skepis
Hi folks
I've got some F2 photos I took at Interlagos in 1972 when I was 13 years old. My dad knew somebody from CBA and we manage to watch the race from the pit area. And I also have some F1 shots I took at Silverstone (British GP) in 1983 when I was living in England. But I don't know how to post them. Can I e-mail them to one of you and you post them for me ?

Chaps, I think Terry Sayles owned a Leyton House 90B as well as the TS20, so I reckon it was probably this car hired out. As for the Marches, visually there was little difference between the later, lightened and 'Coppuck-ised' 811s and the 821s. This car could therefore have been the 811 Rob mentions, made to look like the Rothmans 821s.
Spot on Dan. IIRC, David McLaughlin had a late-season 811 in 821 Rothmans colours. Or was it a 821 in Guinness livery? It was a long time ago...

Just tried to look up the answers to those two David McL-related questions and found OldRacingCars.com is down. It's been down nearly an hour! Eek!

Let me just go and rattle a techie's cage...

No Twinny, the 2K was new for Indy May 1979.
Allen Brown
Geoff Ferris I think. The same man who did the PC7 semi-ground-effect and PC9 full ground-effect cars for Penske.

Allen

GPI says it was designed by Ferris and built at Penske workshops. Autocourse and Autosport don't mention its designer - implying it was a straight copy of a Lotus 79. But the suspension was closer to the Williams so somebody much have done some drawings.

I haven't seen Barnard's name connected to it anywhere.

Allen
Allen Brown
What 8W actually says is "The HR100 was designed and built at Penske's British base in Poole - under the guidance of John Barnard, no less". That is not the same as saying that Barnard designed it.

According to Doug Nye's 1966-85 book, Barnard helped the team over the 79-80 winter and was designing a second Rebaque for them. So maybe he came to it later. 8W could be wrong. After all, I frequently am!

So far I can only find one contemporary mention of the designer: GPI saying Ferris.

Allen
Allen Brown
PS Autosport 30 Aug 1979 p2: "much of the design work has been done by Geoff Ferris". Motor Sport Oct 1979 p1466: "they commissioned the Penske organisation to scheme up a modified Lotus 79".

Still no Barnard. Maybe this has to be filed with those stories that he designed the Lotus 79?
