Judging by the script on the splitter on the Walker March, I'd say he was a mighty frustrated man.

Thats a very nice and clean March he had. Not like some of the other bitzas knocking around at the time. Any history of it Allen? And the Walker/Hunt/Gardner Marches, were they mates does anyone know, I think they ran in a 'team' of some sort.

In the Bedford dormobile pic, there's a very MAWP-like chap in the background, its not the great man is it, I didn't think he got up to Lancs finest at that time?

I think you need to drop this one and concede to the Vila Real brigade. Yes, the circuit in the photo has a grandstand (much, much smaller than Hockenheim's) and, yes, the Germans are fond of their flagpoles. Hockenheim, however, has never had a rocky escarpment opposite the pits (nor, indeed, a house by the final corner's exit).

What Hockenheim most needs in its current format is a bulldozer, so they can wipe it from the face of the planet and start again. This is a shot of the run down to what used to be the first chicane, taken (I think) in the summer of 2005. One day, nature will consume the old track in its entirety and humanity will be none the wiser.

Simon, agreed the photo you are talking about is Vila Real, however the different one I think is Hockenheim was first posted in post 2278, different entirely, a paddock shot.
I recall Doug Nye once posted some terrific Vila Real shots a while back?

Sorry, Andrew

Crossed threads. Still, it gave me a chance to post a shot of the grassy knoll that is the former Hockenheim.

Cheers,
Simon

I know it's still off topic, but that's a sad picture.

The forests gave Hockenheim a unique atmosphere. The total opposite to the concrete stadium.

A proper 742, chassis 23. See the other place for details :)

Re suspected sightings of MAWP at Longridge: it isn't Marcus, I checked with a magnifying glass.

Besides, he would never have made it all the way to the track: there was a long, long hill leading up to the venue - he'd have been happy tearing up that all day...

Don't think he made it to Longridge, Aintree or Rufforth......maybe wrong re: Aintree.

(Just wish he'd make it to TNF)...

Hi Guys

I was just browsing the excellent Longridge photos, and was suprised to see my father, Anthony Taylor, in the dormomobile photo behind John Walkers March. I asked him who was the chap he was chatting to that resembles MAWP, and he suggested he thought it was probably John Calvert. My Father was often at Longridge with his Atlantic Lotus 69 or Ensign LNF3, I'll see if I can dig out some photos, he is still competing with our F5000 Chevron B24 or Can-Am McLaren, when time allows !

We still see John Walker fairly regularly, he was quite successful with our works Autotune Gemini in the 750 MC Kit Car series a few years back, and is now an F1 Stock Car competitor.

Cheers
Richard Taylor

A trio of Aintree paddock shots:

Posted Image

David Moore's Chevrolet Stingray

Posted Image

Malcolm Bell's Imp..looking at the Shellsport Stars on the side of the car he was enjoying his season.

After all the years I have had the photo I have only just noticed in the background that somebody has modified an Army truck into a transporter. Mind you with all the security problems that Aintree experienced in the 1970/1980s it could well have been carrying a tank :)

Posted Image

And finally always a welcome visitor to Aintree, the late Nick Whiting and his Special Saloon Escort.

Kind regards

Phil

Who are the lads looking at the Stingray, Phil? Not you and Simon is it. Or maybe Mr Fenelon...

Great to see a Parka and flares again, and I used to have a Gola bag like that one!! Looks like some of Nick W's "friends" may have been after him, judging by the mess someone's made of his front window...

Ala, yes it must be 1975, given the Perkins RT1. Is that the Great Man himself bending over the car? The Ljungfelt March is interesting, looks like a 743 not 753, but the other 2 look more like 753s. In that era, and following teh Radio 1 lead, it seemed every other car was backed by a Record Co/Popstar, apart from an Organ Company of course !!

Your right it is a 743. The Sayoia car was a new chassis having been bent at Monaco. They were still finishing it off.

One of my all time favourites - The Iso Bizzarini.

Taken at the 1975 Grand Prix meeting. I can't figure out the pipes coming out of the boot. What are they for?

The Bizzarini is the Brian Classic car, is it not? I would agree that the flexible trunking is an aid to brake cooling.

Great shots, by the way. They are taking us all back to where we might prefer to be.

If you mean Ronald Sydney, then I don't think it is. He was quite a bit thinner (all that rushing around at the factory telling people how to do it right!).

Good to see some Longridge pics - what a super little circuit it was . I together with a colleague scrutineered their about 10 times during 1973/74 - imagine only two scrutes at a race meeting today !
The Aintree scrutineering shed had a leaking roof and it did not matter if you were in the open or not on a wet day.
What a nice bunch the regular Oulton , Aintree and Longridge competitors were - similar to today's sprint/hillclimbers. Has the lack of prize money something to do with the attitude of competitors then and now ?

Some F1 teams had other cars around.

Hesketh had a Birdcage Maserati (I'm not sure if was an original).
Posted Image

Graham Hill had an Ogle (did any of these ever race?).

I have a vague recollection that there were only two or three Ogles built, mind you, that doesn't mean someone wouldn't have raced one!

Yes, Graham Hill was well-known for having an ogle............oh you mean the car :p

Can anyone help with ID'ing the people beside the Ferrari Dino at Le Mans in 1965 in my post above?

What weekend was this? Did you go to the WSC 1000km race? :)

No.11 is Peter Lockhart. I think the car behind is RK Smith's no.35, but it's impossible to tell without seeing the full number. Lockhart and Smith were team mates. Smith won the championship. Dutchman Cor Euser also raced in this series.

The ogle of Graham Hill, was also know as an "Embassy" car. I saw it once in england during July 1977. It was not so far from Manchester during a motorracing boat event ! (i have a tiny pic somewhere...)

Yes it was the WSC 1000km race. I was only there for qualifying as I was flying back to England on the Sunday. Bearing in mind what happened in the race, I'm not too upset I missed it.

Mosport is a great, picturesque circuit.

Makes the whole Rondel effort of the early Seventies even more impressive for someone so young.
Can you imagine having a two time world champion driving for your new team when you are 24!
