Superb pic of a lovely car! Was this its first outing? It spent the next few years in Britain always in the same livery I think.

Yes, beautiful car...do you have any more pictures from Rouen, HOULMAN?

This became the Ian (Iain?) McLaren car, didn't it?

They were working on it through the night and a mechanic ran it up and down the Club Straight at about 5.30am. Unfortunately myself and many other marshals were asleep in tents by the side of the track. A V12 is a very loud alarm clock!

I think the chassis had to be so wide to fit the engine.

Exeptionnel picture !!!

Very good
Can i use it on my website www.martini-racing.new.fr

Yes Mark, then Bernard Hunter and George MacMillan. Not sure thereafter. Muir put it on the front row at Nogaro, OTOH, at a Euro F2 race that year, with all works temas present. Fantastic performance, esp considering he 'only' had a BDX.

Kerry Agapiou in his youth.
Kerry and his brother Charlie entered cars in the CanAm and Kerry entered cars in Indy Lights on his own. Tommy Byrne and Paul Tracy drove for Kerry in the Indy Lights. Kerry also ran a Ralt Formula Mondial car for Roberto Moreno. They were second in the series in 1983. Kerry was also the co-crew chief on the 1973 Jody Scheckter L&M Series winning Trojan.

The autumn of 1968 most likely. This was his ex-John Fenning BT21A/2.

Thanks for the details, Allen.

This is the Reynard SF81 I ran for Mike Brett in 81/82.

Very nice photo of the reynard ,Thanks

Any chance you could make your postings smaller, John?
John Saunders
Sorry about that Alan, thats the first time I have managed to post a picture.

Good picture John. To pick up Alan's point, Imageshack gives you the option to make a thumbnail of your image which is easier on people who have slow connections.

The same 81 Reynard in 83. Now fitted with modified rear suspension. We made up & fitted reverse lower
wishbones in place of the original parallel links, as the long studs that the links picked up on used to be
bent like a dogs hind leg after every race. This was a desperate attempt to stay with the newer
Van Diemens ect. that failed. The car was totality written off at Brand Hatch, Paddock bend mid 83.
Along with about 100 metres of that nice Mr Webbs catch fencing.

Silverstone '81, judging by the pic at the top here.

Really, Rick, you should be posting your pics in either the 'Personal photos from the paddock' thread, or - for action shots - the 'Personal photos from the track' version.

I'll merge this thread with the former tomorrow.

Yes, Stuart, 1981 British GP, as Rick has already noted. And even in case it hadn't been noted, the event is clear from a part of Lotus T88 (T88B) outer structure's carbon-composite bodywork with "Courage" publicity on it, visible in the background. The exact date of the photo is also an interesting thing. I suppose it should be taken on 16th July 1981, Thursday. Or possibly a day after. Am I right?

I'm gonna guess that i took the photo on Friday. I did not go on Thursday, we arrived on Friday and camped at the circuit over the weekend.

Simon,

This is probably my favourite... I was chatting to ex-Minardi racer Luis Sala, whom I've known for about 20 years, and asking him about his youthful recollections of Montjuïc. As a schoolboy in 1973, he'd posed for a paddock picture with Jackie Stewart and Emerson Fittpaldi - and Fittipaldi pitched up just as we were discussing the matter. The two of them decided to recreate the shot (minus JYS) alongside Emmo's victorious Lotus 72 (chassis #5). [/B]

I am a follower of Emerson Fittipaldi first career in F1 , but does some of 1975 spanish GP spectators didn 't hang him about his attitude before the race ?
They were alls waiting after him to enter the race, and I remember in SPORT AUTO french mag, Jabby Crombac pointing at him, as being a bit provocative by completing only warm up practices laps at very low speed .... and then catching his plane to return to Switzerland and putting bad words about Montjuich organizers, the track...

..events to come proved Emmo to be right, but ...??
Simon Arron
In 1975, Emerson was unhappy that the barriers had not been installed properly. Sadly, events on the afternoon of April 27 suggest he had a point. A friend of mine was standing trackside, about 200 metres beyond Rolf Stommelen's accident, and remembers spilt fuel running down the hill towards his vantage point. He and others tried to move, largely because a number of marshals were standing there with lit cigarettes, oblivious to the potential hazard, but baton-wielding policemen made everybody stay put... Not everything about the 1970s was great.

As for Montjuïc as a whole, though, Fittipaldi loved the place. I had the privilege of conducting an interview with him last October and he said the following: "Montjuïc is one of the most beautiful street circuits that ever existed. It’s fantastic. The last two corners before the pits were uphill and our cornering speeds were close to those we achieved at Silverstone’s Woodcote, in the days when it was a flat-out right-hander. But to do that on a street circuit… It was very challenging – an absolutely unbelievable place.”

NSR? I'm sure he once told me he was there or thereabouts.

Has Quentin ever told you of his weekend that race, he being the Embassy Hill PR man and all...?

I'm in Barcelona in a few weeks time and plan to walk around what's left of the old circuit (well streets) smile.gif

Alan

It is still pretty well intact (as is much of nearby Sitges too). Without cars and barriers there, however, it is hard to pick out the bits that once formed a racetrack, simply because it doesn't look like one.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Be good to see you at a TNF gathering some time soon.

Cheers,
SA
