Thank you for the thumbs up Sterling. I have hundreds, if not thousands of pictures I've taken over the years. Some much better than others, but I've always had fun taking them. I've got to rise early for work tomorrow. I'd better call it a night with these two.

He looks about 10 in that first pic, not much older in the second.

Mario Andretti spent alot of time & laps in 1996 filming for the IMAX film titled, "Super Speedway". This is his Newman Haas prepared Lola being readied at Michigan International Speedway. I think the camera was approximately 90 pounds, if I remember the technicians reply correctly.

I know that I've left the Paddock; however, I wanted to follow up with the IMAX camera in action @ Mid Ohio 1996. Friday of race weekend. A camera mount configuration that is a bit more stout than the Lotus 49 from Watkins in '68! It was a neat experience to see the footage in its final editing in the theatre. Back to the garage.

thanks, Brian

Too clever for me. Why isn't the writing reversed when seen in the mirror?

I may have posted this before but it was a long time ago. It's my favourite paddock shot.

Because it isn't being viewed in the mirror! None-the-less a very neat digital manipulation of two images which looks superb.

Both bradbury west's and Stephen W's solutions did occur to me, but which is it?

Flipping the whole image is certainly the simpler of the two - I tried to see if the car in the background (a Toleman?) is reversed, but it's too distant to tell.

I would tend to go for Stephen W's explanation, as the 'Stewart' writing seems much sharper than the rest of the photo

Watkins Glen - Saturday Oct. 4, 1975. Clay Regazzoni & Niki Lauda early morning in the Kendall Garage. My brother, friends & I would spend as much time as we could in this area. Shoulder to shoulder with the teams & drivers. Staying attentive & out of the way, we never heard a word about our close proximity.

Niki on pole & would win the next day. Clay gave Fittipaldi fits from 1 lap down. Emerson shook his right fist for laps on end.

David ,you are spot on. My photo was taken during the week leading up to the Hordern Trophy meeting when a few drivers were having some private practice on the short circuit.
Pleased you enjoyed the photo

It's hard to believe, but this picture was taken 12) years ago. Dan Gurney was one of the reasons I fell in love with motorsports. Always very easy for me to cheer him on. He always perfomed with speed, style, & class. No matter what the result for the day, you'd be proud to say he was one of your favorites. He still is.

Thank you for the kind compliment Mr. Dent. If you liked that, you may equally enjoy this one of Gilles Villeneuve in 1979 at Watkins Glen. THE RUN in the rain was just a short time away....

Tomaini to Villeneuve's right. I need help with the other.

I still really miss that guy!

Brian
Simon Arron
I think many of us of a certain age still miss him. I have a sticker, which Alan Henry peeled from GV's Ferrari at the end of, I think, the 1981, season. It ended up stuck to various Motoring News company cars until I got my hands on it: I have guarded it jealously ever since and it now adorns a large, framed print of Gilles in action at Zandvoort in '79. It might just be my proudest possession...

Moving on, meanwhile...

As I write, this is the only wheel to have turned so far in Singapore, where an electrical storm is just petering out. It is located immediately adjacent to the paddock (the blurry thing at the bottom of the picture is the top of Ferrari's hospitality unit). The F1 cars are due out in about seven hours.

Mr. Arron - I'm glad to hear that you are the custodian of such a fine piece of memoribilia from Gilles' Ferrari. I've got a few other Villeneuve shots to post. He was always a favorite from the heart & with the camera.
Thanks for the Singapore updates!

I'm not sure whether last night qualifies as nostalgia, but just in case...

Grid scene from Singapore. Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren is in there somewhere.

Amusingly named driver goes 13th fastest in the Aston Martin Asia Cup. Disappointingly, he's called Frank.

Ron Dennis in his private fiefdom, aka the McLaren pit garage.

Spectators gather beneath a large, illuminated red onion atop the main grandstand roof.

A timely pit stop put Mark Webber in a very strong position but - being Mark Webber - his transmission then packed up, obviously.

There is a car in the foreground somewhere, but it won't be very sharp because I shot this at about 1/30th...

"Please try to mind that wall at Turn 17..." Nelson Piquet receives last-minute instructions from Pat Symonds.

Around the same time, 1980 I think, Nigel Roebuck gave me two unused 'Gilles Villeneuve' cockpit-side stickers which GV had given him the day before at whichever GP he'd just returned from.

To my eternal regret, one went on my briefcase and the other on the filing cabinet next to my desk...

Great photos Simon, staying in Orchard Road per chance up.gif Looking at the names, could be Gerry Marsden's brother and a long lost brother of founder Floyd member Waters. Then there is the entry by that famous Canterbury Sound.....Gong....I bet you are sitting on an air con unit cat.gif

Not the best photos, by any means, but I like the memories that it brings back from 1974 @ Watkins Glen for my first live GP. It illustrates the rather primitive conditions in which the teams then dealt with. These are the Brabham Fords of first & second place drivers - Carlos Reutemann & Carlos Pace. We camped out & had a great time in rather primitive settings ourselves! We were hooked & would continue to attend. I miss the crisp, beautiful Fall days in New York this time of year. This race was on Oct. 6, 1974.

I think the car on the right is Mark Donohue's Penske, Brian... smile.gif
B Squared
Mr. Dent - you may be correct. I was looking at the flat rollbar, but the Penske has a fairly flat rollbar too, although the radiator @ the drivers right rear precludes it from being a Brabham. I don't remember a Penske garage ever looking that disorderly! Sorry for the confusion. Off to work, I'm sure that it will be cleared up conclusively.

Thanks for the correction.

It may have been primitive but at least they could work inside in the warm. In those days, at most circuits, they were in the open air in a breezy paddock! It may have been warm in the day but it was freezing at night.

I thought it a great idea to have the big indoor centre with the cars available for the public to view.

My one and only visit to Watkins Glen - loved it:)

As I recall, the Kendall garage was considered pretty "state-of-the-art" for its time. It was a great improvement over the cramped old Kendall center. It was clean, pretty well lit and relatively warm. And we loved the center walkway which allowed fans to get up close and personal with the cars, mechanics and drivers as Brian's pictures show. The building is still there, of course. All the fencing is gone and the garage doors are much larger. But still evokes some great memories!

Now, the Mosport garage area at that time WAS pretty primative.

But there were wonderful times in both!

Parnelli? Surely?
f1steveuk
But then again a Parnelli would have front brake shafts. I'll get me coat!

I'm with Stu, it's the Penske.

As I looked at it, I thought it had to be one of the two American cars, so I went to check a couple pictures ;), and the Parnelli has wishbone front suspension...

A nice example of TNF moral integrity. Many of us would have quietly deleted the original post, hoping that no-one had noticed...

I have a T shirt with the Microsoft Word logo on it, and underneath it says

"There is no undo button in life" !

I looked at the car on the right, and I just didn't recall the Penske being so curvacous around the rad's.

I do recall Maurice Phillippe saying that the Parnelli is what the Lotus 76 should have been. and Peter Warr telling me that Chapman thought so as well!

I found this photo of the right front suspension of the Penske PC1. I believe that kudos should go to Mr. Dent for having it right, straight out of the box! Another conclusive element is in the sawhorse details. Thanks for the help to correctly edit my photo file.

There are some examples where the term team "mates" does seem to fit. Lauda and Regazzoni, Jones and Regazzoni...Senna and Berger? Hmmm. I know there must be many others. Clark and Hill?
